Jon, not every software engineer makes as much money, though. You are fortunate to work for a big tech company that pays really well. Good for you, keep going at this rate and you will be able to retire young 😁
@@ClaireandNanami I actually am a Canadian living in South Korea. But yes it is quite low, and the prospect of saving for a home in Canada while on Korean salary is quite daunting haha
@@Daniel-qf1zz Wow, they pay peanuts in Korea 😅. It depends on what you want. If you are thinking of moving back to Canada, it is going to be hard to meet your financial goals if you stay in Korea for too long.
@@ClaireandNanami Same thing in Spain, at least if you are low experience. With more experience you can pull ~70k at some large companies, but it still pales in comparison to west coast US.
Would you say getting less money but in a cheaper location is also a valid way to get to a millionaire as a software engineer. Like not working at big tech but like 120-140 out of college/masters but living in maryland or like with my parents in marylands
Yes, there are so many different ways to become a millionaire as a software engineer. I wouldn't necessarily say that one way is less valid than another, but there are definitely tradeoffs to consider.
I tracked my credit card expenses on Mint and everything else I tracked in my own spreadsheet (using Google Sheets). Still trying to find a replacement for Mint but Credit Karma is "good enough" for now
It was not on 5 years, it stated when you were studying computer science giving it all to get a good job with 6 figures...that's a lot of years and hard work.
HEY Jon i love your channel so much!😁👍🏻 would you think a minor in computer science would be enough to get me jobs in coding, programming or software engineering industry? 😁
A minor can help you learn but a lot of companies actually don't require a degree; you can get a job if you have the skills and can pass the technical interviews. But definitely easier said than done
Hello jon, I just saw some of your videos on RUclips. I liked your videos very much. You have been uploading videos on RUclips since 2021. According to this, your subscribers are very less. If you upload videos regularly and enhance the quality of your videos and thumbnails, then you will be able to grow on RUclips very quickly. I can help you grow on RUclips. I can enhance your videos better than before. If you have time, we can talk in a meeting.
Happy Financial Literacy Month to those who celebrate 🎉

I better do the 100 - 0 rule
@@Daniel-qf1zz That is pretty low. You should try job hopping to raise your salary.

So inspiring Jon!! I love the tip about making finances a game - it really does make tracking + budgeting more fun :)

Do you use HYSA for the sinking funds or just regular ones?

at what age would you like to retire? great video and congrats on your hard work Jon
Thank you! Honestly the earlier the better 😅 but realistically planning to retire in my 40's.
how were you able to save 69k on your 401k? i thought the 2024 contribution limit is 23k
Some 401k plans allow for after-tax contributions. Look up "mega backdoor roth 401k"
Your only my inspiration
