Hi, new subscriber here. Your sketchbook is marvelous! I love your use of hatching and that you let your wife draw you. Your painted sketches are beautiful; you're an actual artist. I was actually searching for "Inktense sketchbook" because I'd recently swatched my Intenkse pencils and wanted to see what others might be doing with them. Although your sketchbook contains no Inktense whatsoever, I'm really glad I found your channel. Congrats on your sales and prizes at shows in '24. Those are great accomplishments.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I’m glad you stumbled on to my video and channel. I haven’t tried those pens you mentioned but I would like to experiment more with different markers and pens. If you have any favorites or recommendations let me know. I appreciate your support!
@@hacuna45 Inktense is a Derwent product. They come in watercolor pencil and stick forms, but they aren't actually watercolor; they are made of ink that's a more permanent version of watercolor. They're fun for sketching but they're somewhat uneven. I wouldn't recommend buying a whole set (like I did), but pick out a few basic colors like Chinese Ink or Sepia and see what you think. You may be better off with your gouache; it's much more predictable and you can layer it endlessly. Both the Dorland's Wax and shellac finishes look great. I like to sew my own sketchbooks out of a mix of Arches 140 lb and other drawing/mixed media papers. That's probably more work than you'd want to do for just a sketching surface, but sketching is pretty much all I do. I like Faber Castell Pitt Artist pens, Blackwing Matte pencils, and a little Schminke palette with 12 watercolors.
@@vermiliongamboge155awesome thanks for the recommendations!! I’ve heard good things about Blackwing pencils and will probably get a few at some point soon. I’ll stick with gouache and casein for painting in my sketchbook. I recently picked up some watercolor tubes after not using the medium in years and I’m excited to get back into it. It’s always good to have a few experiments going I think!
Hi thanks for subscribing to my channel and for the kind words! I mostly use oil paint, but I also like working with gouache, casein, and egg tempera. When drawing I use graphite, charcoal, or pens to sketch. Do you paint or draw too?
@@josephmoore2811 I use Dorland’s Wax Medium and Krylon’s UV Archival Matte Varnish Spray to seal gouache and casein paintings. First the spray then the wax as a top coat.
Really nice stuff!
@@willdudley4644 thanks I appreciate that!

I love your sketchbook! I accidentally came across your video, what materials do you use most often in your work?

Hi Hector, what is the name of the wax medium you use?
