How does a human being write a song on the spot like that?! I just broke my wrist two weeks ago and had surgery with a plate and pins. Listening to your stories, guest interviews and singing along with your tribe has been such a comfort! Praying for your healing Mark.

I call myself a "Pentecostal Presbyterian." I feel that our denomination removes personal joy in faith. I was christened a Presbyterian and in the late 50's and 60's my family helped begin a new congregation and I became a fishing buddy with our minister. We fished in evenings and into night and we had so many soulful discussions. I became a young man who rejected war, other violence against others and ultimately, a conscientious objector. My father and his father were wartime Naval officers, but my father said to me after my pre-induction physical during which I insisted on my belief, my father said "I disagree, but because of how we raised you and our deep personal immersion in faith, I understand." I offered to serve as a medic, specifically in the Navy and assignment to the Marine Corps as a "corpsman," a land-based medic for the Corps. The examiners refused that, but since my beliefs were long documented and my minister and others had written letters supporting me, they just rejected me. Even though I ended up a lawyer for the poor, I became a medical expert and carry a full trauma kit in my car and keep one at home. But, I push my congregation, yet I guess my faith is too "raw" for them. But, they love me and put up with me.
