- We were beaten on the road at Manchester United on Thursday night after a topsy-turvey game ultimately went the way of the home side.
Unbeaten in our last three visits to Old Trafford prior to this clash, we started on the front foot, zipping the ball about and keeping the hosts at arm’s length.
Having come close with an in-swinging corner that caused chaos within the first minute, we eventually made our set piece prowess count for the opening goal - but it was not without a hint of controversy.
That arose because when the ball was delivered into the box, United midfielder Fred stepped on David de Gea’s ankle and the goalkeeper went down. The loose ball fell to Emile Smith Rowe, and he finished smartly.
Cue mass confusion. It had to be a goal didn’t it, as no Arsenal player was involved in the clash with De Gea? Eventually after much debate, the goal was given and our fine start had its reward.
But after that we were pushed back by the hosts, who although not at their best, were causing problems - and eventually they found their equaliser just before the interval, Bruno Fernandes poking home from close range.
We started the second half on the front foot and Gabriel’s header soon brought a good save from De Gea, while at the other end Aaron Ramsdale had to be alert to deny Cristiano Ronaldo.
But the Portuguese wouldn’t be denied and minutes later he converted from Marcus Rashford’s cross to put the hosts in front.
But back we came, and an incredibly open start to the second half soon had another goal as Partey picked out Martinelli on the right, and his cross found Martin Odegaard and the Norwegian found the corner with a pinpoint strike to equalise.
The game remained open with Aubameyang having half a chance with a fierce drive that De Gea saved, but at the other end a tangle between Odegaard and Fred ended in a penalty for the hosts - and Ronaldo made no mistake from the spot.
We pushed and pushed to claw our way back into the match once more, but there was to be no late equaliser and we ended empty-handed from a frustrating night.

Arteta gave more than enough time to Auba and now is a time to try laca and other options. We can't hope that Saka, ESR or Odegaard come up with something to win each game.
Great fighting spirit, after 2-1 and 3-2 down. Martinelli man of the match. Arteta gave him his chance and is playing much better than the start of the season. Midfield solid especially the second half. Tommy and Nuno we're great again, and so was Odegaard. Hope fans lay off him, it's a costly mistake but these things happen. With his goals he should he's definitely not a flop.This team is two players (Midfielder, striker) away from being completed. It's a work in progress and we're up there challenging for top 4, who'd thought that after the first three games. Next Everton COYG

if you rated xhaka i don't know what to say. For me he is the worst player in our squad. he is slow, can't pass forward, always make an error that lead to goal for another team, and he is good for nothing.

We have a favourable run of fixtures in our next six PL games and should comfortably be in the top 4 come new year if we get maximum points. The tougher matches will be played at home (West ham and wolves) so there should be no excuse. A Pepe + Martinelli combo might be worth trying in these games. Auba and Laca should play from the bench and Nketiah offloaded.
Auba thanks for the memories but you can go with your Farrari now. Not a one off thing but you have been disappointing since last season. My lone consolation is at least Willian is gone.

As much as I've backed Arteta, I think he deserves some of the blame for this loss. Given the way we played there's every reason to believe that we could've snatched a point or potentially all three from this game. Team selection messed it up for me. I know Tavares didn't put a foot wrong but this is the type of game where you need someone like Kieran Tierney, just for the determination, energy and the influence he transmits to the team. His experience in high profile games like these gives us an edge, and I can see for the same reason he started Elneny over Lokonga, who in my opinion was our best player against Newcastle. Playing Aubameyang up top was pretty much the icing on the cake. Sad to say this, but he is finished. I don't think we'll ever get to see the Aubameyang we all hoped for after he "signed da ting". The sooner we get to January the better. We need a proven world class striker, not a young random nobody. Our midfielders are the ones putting the ball in the back of the net right now, and yesterday's game just showed that it's not enough.
After that brilliant performance by the inexperienced team, is it safe to say that Arteta needs to be given 2 more seasons after this?

He didn't even touch the ball and he made the challenge from behind, It was a pen all day
