What people don't realize is that the discoloration is partially because the paint hasn't been exposed to sunlight and minerals for 15 years. The clear coat under the vinyl is much thicker than the rest of the car. UV rays and chemicals can alter how paint looks, and take away from the color. There's no way around it except maybe sanding and polishing
Great point. Thanks for an advise 1Hunnid Studious! I will pin your comment up.
This is exactly right. Everything is discoloured other then the part where the vinyl was.
I have replaced so many racing stripes for cars. You ALWAYS have this and only way to fix is to expose that part to sun, put new clearcoat on whole panel or wrap and hide edges of the discolouration.
@@Szenenmischa You could try doing a buff with a medium grit compound too and it'll sometimes blend it all out.
The real secret that i dont see anybody use us an industrial pressure washer. Theres a large power gap between blasting off vinyl/adhesive and stripping clear coat. Heat gets the vinyl off and cold gets the adhesive off
From now on I’m calling my heat gun a “heater gun”
You bet! Thanks for watching)
Awesome
Thanks Joseph!
That “discoloration” is the adhesive you didn’t remove yet, rookie.
Thanks Justin! What is a best way to remove it?
@@PistonShack I am in the middle of doing it now. It’s a nightmare. I found that goo gone graffiti remover(the aerosol one) will loosen it up then you scrape it off with a plastics scraper. Once it’s all off you’ll be able to wet sand the whole panel with 2500 and buff it out and it will look like new.
@@justinbenscoter2052 I hear you! That wasn't easy. I will try wet send with 2500 and buff when weather warm up. We had -27C last night)
You need to use a heavy grit compound and go in that direction
@@PistonShack how did it go? Any updates?
oh you have to plug it in? no wonder i couldn't get the stupid wrap off
Thanks for watching!
helpful. good choices but u hurt lamps by spayings
Happy Winter Holidays to you Hatam and Your Family! Cheers)
there is no discoloration man, there is more glue on the hood that's why. Nice video of how NOT to remove the glue... it takes too much effort to do this, not filming with one hand and rubbing with the other.
Hey x viral! Thanks for your feedback! Cheers!
The alcohol destroys clear coat ignore this man
You're right, If you leave it for too long (over 1 mins) Thanks for your comment, Bob.
What I'm wondering is how to remove the discoloration thats left after removing the wrap. I recently bought a car that had the entire roof wrapped. I removed and I'm left with an entire stain across the roof.
Hi John. I'm not sure how to remove paint discoloration properly after the wrap. Let me know what worked for you. Thanks.
The problem is that if the car had the wrap for many years the paint underneath will be preserved in its original color while the rest of the paint shifts color due to sunlight etc so there will always be some mark left over. But I agree that it also looks stained in this case
That leftover discoloration is the adhesive that this yahoo didn’t get. Use goo gone graffiti remover(the aerosol can) and a plastic scraper to remove. Once your done with that you can buff out any scratch’s with polishing compound.
I painted cars for years and never had a problem using paint thinner to remove any adhesive. This was a little different. I removed a whole layer of adhesive. It was like a "boogery" texture and took forever to get it all. However, after that stuff was removed, it still had a yellow tint to it. I tried using a rubbing compound as well which did nothing. Only thing I didn't try was wet sanding. Ultimately it didn't matter because I just put fresh wrap back on. But had I not wanted to re wrap I would have been in a hard spot.
@@johnbowman4844 that “buggery” stuff is adhesive. Once you get all of the adhesive off it would leave nothing but clear coat. If you paint cars you should know that clear coat would never have that consistency.
Is this the crazy Russian hacker?
Thanks for watching Dave!
What if the ambient temp is 110° F°? Hehe
Hey Simon! If ambient temperature is 110° F - that's cooking hot! Thank you for your feedback.
There’s an old Subaru commercial where they are showing the winter torture testing they do in Minnesota. -40 F, snow, ice, salt etc… They end the commercial with the line, “If your winter is worse than this, you don’t need a new car, you need a new place to live.” Lol. Stay hydrated in that heat brother.
This guy did the opposite of everything he was saying
Interesting! I hope it helped you out. Thanks for watching.
Bro this looks absolutely horrible I’m actually laughing out loud
The car is destroyed
Yes, Michael. It doesn't look great, discoloration is so bad but it looked even worth with old dry cracked wrap.
