If you're working on this years West Knits MKAL shawl let me know how you're enjoying it! :)

The MKAL is tempting me this time around, but I have to finish my Aurora Cabin shawl first because it's been on the needles since 10/1/2023 and it's no where near done. I thought the one section looked like the section in the Aurora Cabin, but there's no dropping stitches in the Aurora Cabin, so I guess not. But each Thursday I immediately open the next clue and scrub ahead to the end to see the finished section. And then I go to the projects and creep through the testers who post their pictures from that clue. Because, like I said before, I'm so nosey! I think even though the speckles aren't as present as you wished, the pink is so fluorescent that it might have made the speckles hard to see anyway. In the camera at least the pink basically glows and the speckle color being more tonal lets it really pop. But I also know that when something doesn't look quite how you wanted it can be a bummer, even if it looks good regardless.
    How I manage my WIPs:
I have a WIP that's my desk WIP, and a WIP that's my bed WIP, and those are basically the only one's I work on during the week. The desk is my daytime WIP and the bed is nighttime while watching TV or movies with my husband. If I'm going somewhere as passenger princess I'll take one of those two. Then I have what I call "Saturday morning cartoons," which is Saturdays (or other days off sometimes) in the morning I collect all my WIPs (usually 5-10 total) and do WIP sprints while watching manga and drinking my morning tea. So I'll work on a WIP for the length of an episode and then switch. So I'm semi-monogamous during the week, but each WIP gets at least ~20 minutes work in each week.
Happy early birthday! I did a birthday cast on for my birthday last month as well. I went with the Fall Frolic in Fir and Thingvellir National Park cashmere sock from Explorer Knits and Fibers.

The Aurora Cabin Shawl looks so fun to knit! But yes definitely wouldn't want to have two of those shawls on the needles at once 😂 Those sections do look similar! I wonder if he was going for the same look but a different technique? Hahha I would do the same honestly! I try to see what it's going to look like before I look at others just so it's a fun surprise as I'm knitting but if I was going to wait to knit it I'd definitely spoil it for myself haha
Ok yes I was thinking that as I edited the video, the pink yarn was glowing! It's not glowing in person exactly but it is very bright still, so I think you're right. I think I'm just worried it's giving Where's Waldo but PINK with the stripes, so I'm hoping the next sections won't be as stripey 😂
Ok I love your WIP management strategy! That feels like each WIP is getting some love each week, while still making solid progress on a couple focus projects!
Thank you!!! Ohhh that sounds so beautiful!! :)

🌺Your Faye Summer Top is coming along nicely! I'm so glad you found a bobble technique that works for you 😄All of your projects look so good - I've had the Lanark Sweater in my library for a while now and I really want to knit it, maybe for next year. I love the colour you chose for yours!
For a while this year, I kept my number of WIPs to about 5 or less at any given time, but omg with fall finally here with the cooler weather, I kind of went a little feral with casting on my fall knitting plans lol! I think at this point I'm up to almost 10 projects on my needles and I'm definitely feeling a bit overwhelmed. Usually I try to focus on one project each day and rotate through them, but lately I've been bouncing between two projects that I'm super keen to finish sooner than later.
I try to sit down and write out my current WIPs and their tentative "complete by" dates once a week, just so I can keep track of what I have on the needles and where I'm at with their progress. I actually haven't done that yet this week so I should go do that now 😅

Thank you! So excited to keep working on it! :) And yess I would definitely recommend! It's one of my most favorite things I've ever knit!
😂 Fall knitting is just so much fun! It's hard not to cast on all the things! But yeah I have quite a few things on the needles too and it's been a little overwhelming trying to make sure I rotate through them, especially with the MKAL going on so I think I might pick a few to focus on for the time being 😂
Ok I love that so much! I just made a little project tracker for my current wips (I haven't entered them all in yet) so I can keep track of what state they're all in and make sure I don't forget about any of them haha

Your Lanark looks good!. I've got a Lanark WIP (size 7) that's been going since last July. I find it so slow going but Im definately going to finish it, hopefully next year.

Thank you!!! Yeah it's definitely slower going with the half fisherman's rib but so worth it! It's a nice longer term project for sure! :) What yarn and color are you knitting it in?

@@saoirsebrey I'm using a really nice navy, it's in Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply. It's superwash, so it will grow with washing a fair bit, I'll try not worry about that yet!.

Ohhh that sounds lovely! Hopefully it won't grow too much and if it does maybe it'll make for a cozier garment! 🤞🏻

Selective gifting is a good way to put it. Not everyone has any concept of the time and cost of a knitted item. I have told people that if they wanted something that is knitted, that they can purchase the yarn for the project and hand it over to me and I will do the knitting. That way they know the cost of the yarn and can be more appreciative. If it’s a request from someone that is not part of my friends or family, I would have them purchase the yarn and give them a fee amount to cover the cost for the knitting. If they think it’s too expensive then I know they would not appreciate the time and cost of gift knitting.

    • @saoirsebrey
      @saoirsebrey  День назад

That's such a great way to find out who is and isn't knit worthy! I know if someone right off the bat offers to pay for the yarn and my time that they get how much work goes into it and that makes me more open to consider gift knitting for them
