    There is no wobble effect with an anamorphic lens if you disable native camera stabilization. You must understand that when the phone tries to stabilize the camera mechanically, the inner lens is shifting its position and angle a bit which will misalign with the external anamorphic lens. No gamble will help removing that effect, it will only mitigate it. The best solution is to disable stabilization from the phone and use a gimbal to restore that functionality, that way you will always have both lenses aligned + a gimbal stabilization.
    Last but not least, the vegetating around the image corners just indicates that the phone's native lens is moving and its angle is pointing towards the corner of the external lens, which creates shadows. Again, disable optical image stabilization and you're good.

    Thank you Tom.
    WoW I never would I guess you would have so much dark warbleling in the corners with anamorphic. For sure the gimbal is needed. Or maybe indeed cut the iPhone stabilisation and live with the jittering ^^

    • @TomDMelo
      @TomDMelo  2 года назад

      Yann, Thanks for watching 👍🏻 yes wobble is pretty noticeable with the anamorphic, I guess it’s because the anamorphic stretches horizontally while the sensor shift and the computational trickery apple developed is not accounting for that 😂😂😂 yes indeed, without the stabilization it wouldn’t have caused wobble , but then I would have to accept the shakiness. I’m happy with the gimbal combo though, that Zhyiun Q2 is so small and powerful , that can handle the 13 Pro Max with no issues.
      The moment wide angle lens also works pretty well though, without gimbal. I can still use the main lens and sensor, but with a 18mm equivalent focal length, which is nice for wider field of view. I should have added that one for comparison as well 😂😬

    Awesome video as always Tom, this combo looks amazing on the iPhone - although I prefer just go caselss or Apple leather case when needed protection.

      Thanks Uri!!! Appreciate the feedback! True, nothing beats the IPhone caseless, it’s so nice , specially the 12 and 13 with the flat design 👍🏻 I also like to use it caseless, but since I’m into video making, I really needed something light that I could use some lenses on the go😁

    I have this lens. It is sharp, and for the money incredible value. I am now looking for a more up-to-date phone that will still use it. It looks like the iphone 13 pro is the last one (lenses getting bigger) in the Apple eco sys. My research indicates however that you cannot switch off stabilization on the iphone. Is this correct?

      Hi there, the lens is from Sirui. I did bought the lens and Sirui also have a VND that fits perfectly the lens. Like below:

    Can I shoot videos by iPhone’s stock camera with anamorphic lens?

    • @TomDMelo
      @TomDMelo  Год назад

      You can, but you will need to use some software afterwards to de-squeeze the image. Check some videos in RUclips on how to de squeeze anamorphic video, in case it’s something new to you.

    Hi. How did you get rid of those vignette in both sides??

    • @TomDMelo
      @TomDMelo  2 года назад +2

      Hi Eurica, thanks for watching! In order to get rid of the vignettes I would have to zoom a little bit in post during editing. It’s important to keep in mind that for more steady shots I haven’t notice that much of vignetting, it seems to be more present when moving a lot (as the camera stabilization / sensor shift tries to compensate for the shakiness) so it would depend on type of shot you will be making 😉

    Thank you Tom - great review and fantastic video. I have ordered mine to pair with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Just curious on the ND filter you are using at the beginning of the video, it looks much smaller than the 67 mm moment filter mount. What did you use for the video? I just think Moment 67 mm filter mount is huge and wish they can built a smaller size to cover the Anamorphic lens.

    • @TomDMelo
      @TomDMelo  2 года назад +1

      Hi Chang! Thanks for watching!! I’m happy to hear you liked the video 👍🏻
      Both the ND and the anamorphic are from Sirui. I have chosen Sirui exactly because they have smaller ND that fits perfectly to the anamorphic. I will leave the link for you here:

      @@TomDMelo Ah I see, thank you for the help. So the Sirui anamorphic lens does work on Moment case. There's not many info that I could find about the compatibility if you have Sirui lens that work with a moment case.

    • @TomDMelo
      @TomDMelo  2 года назад +1

      I’m glad to help Chang Michael! Yes, they are compatible because the mount in the case is universal “phone Bayonet mount”, so you can use moment lenses or any other lens / filters and adapters that are bayonet mount too 👍🏻

    But you can’t do cinematic mode with anamorphic

    • @TomDMelo
      @TomDMelo  2 года назад

      Indeed, the Cinematic Mode needs to use all cameras and the Anamorphic blocks them given its size. Still, just by using the Anamorphic with regular video mode, it provides a Cinematic feeling given how wider the shots are and also there are some characteristics from anamorphic (like flares) that makes the footage looks different.

    • @jurajziak
      @jurajziak Год назад

      @@TomDMelo Hello Tom, is it really true there's no anamorphic lens you can use with cinematic mode? Let's have a look on this video where guy tried to use it:
      ruclips.net/video/yGcADmLQbPQ/видео.html
      Quality is very poor and you can see also some artifacts around the face occasionally, maybe it's because lens went thru other cameras..
