Just a quick tip when cooking on your boat...try the Dune 4WD Butane Deep Dish Stove (or similar). You have a lot more area than a fry pan and has a lid to cook curries etc... Good wind protection up on the bait board. We also use the Jet Boil for boiling water for coffee or cup of soap. We camp on the boat for 3-4 Days at a time (off Cairns/Cooktown)as much as we can in a 680 Patriot. Its a centre cab walk around which we prefer. I can see the benefits of an 8m twin 250hp like the Genesis, just a little harder to tow around the Cape.
Lovely Ep and spots guys. A 8m Half cab plate alloy boat be awesome for you guys up there. Just make sure you got some fans and good windows. But you would need a bigger 4wd as be around 4,5 loaded.
Thanks Craig, Yes mate bigger boat = car also haha. We aren’t huge fans of walk around cabs but would have a full cabin with big wide gunnels to walk from the rear to the nose of the boat. Fans will be a must mate 👍🏽
Get a centre cab or walk around style boat. Least you can walk up front to navigate reefs, flats fish, easier to pass camping gear off the nose at beaches and gets you more breeze down the back corners in the savage north qld heat when fishing.
Cheers! Yeah we have a 750 walk around with extended hard top, the kids sleep in the cab in sleeping bags and we double swag it on deck. Walk around is the go as well, I can fish 6-8 crew around the boat, on that one day a year the kids let me take my mates out….😂
A boat with a cab is the only way to go especially is you want your family to continue coming on trips. In my opinion and experience a hard top with a full windscreen is so much better just need roof hatches and good windows for ventilation. For sure a centre cab would be better for fishing but I would have sunk my boat if that’s what I had when I got caught in a storm at Lizard island 2 years ago. Waves coming over my hard top and 68knt winds wasn’t much fun I can tell you.
Thanks mate! Yeah we definitely wouldn’t want a walk around cab, full cab or nothing for us but yes I’ve been in a big hard top through some unfavourable weather and taken a large wave over the bow that would of swamped and sank any other boat.
Hey mate how do u find the swag? Big enough to fit the mrs and kids and yourself? Or do u sleep on the boat? Do u all fit comfortably enough in there to get a few hours shut eye? I’m looking to downsize our sleeping setup to a swag instead of tents mattress blankets ect,
The swag is definitely a tight squeeze and will only last another 1-2 years max before we need to carry 2x. But it is the easiest, lightest and quickest setup for us currently. We can set it up in the nose of the boat if we want and also offers both fly screen for hot nights and covers in the rain. We are thinking of custom designing a swag something that is bigger for 4x people but folds in half and rolls up small like the current double swag.

I only got alot of wind but very little rain, so only a bit of tree damage. Very happy with that.
Cab boats are the way to go, much more family friendly when camping overnight. What is the name of the app on your iPad you use to see the contours??
Bathy maps is what you’re looking for mate.
