This saxophone arrangement suited the theme very well, and the last moment, which showed the song going dark as Hunter headed into a dangerous situation, was a great way to put across the never-ending danger of his job.
Granted I was young when it first aired but I had completely forgotten that Stepfanie Kramer left and he had a new partner for the last season. I only ever remember Hunter and McCall.

Charles John Hallahan died of a heart attack on November 25, 1997 at 54 years of age. He was just getting ready to take on the role of Liam Bilby in the episode Honor Among Thieves from Star Trek Deep Space Nine but died during production. It's sad to thing about when he could easily still be alive. He would only be 61 when his 62nd birthday coming on the 29th of July this year. @monaco74 In the pilot, he drove a '77 Monaco and a '70 LTD. After that, he drove a '72 Impala, then a '71 Nova, then a '74 Satellite, then a '79 Caprice Classic. In Season 2, he drove a multi-colored '77 Monaco, then a yellow '77 Monaco, then a brown one, and then a black one, before driving the green one for several seasons.
I like how they made different variations of the theme for each season. Miami Vice played the same theme note for note from season 2 thru the end - it was a great theme, but YAWN it got old. I also liked how Hunter drove different cars. I wish the new Hunter series had made it. Fred and Stephanie look better than ever.
Here's what I found out: On Entertainment Tonight Weekend, Stepfanie said that the reason why she left was b/c it was time to move on, but she still remains good friends with Fred Dryer. and so, that's why it was known as the end of an era. But thankfully, we still have Stabler & Benson on SVU.
A 7 ik évad zenéje nagyon jól sikerült. Tetszik. Nagyon sajnálom, hogy az 1978 as zöld Dodge Monaco kocsit lecserélték. Nagyon kár érte. Az új rendörnő Lauren Lane nagyon csinos.
I liked his first partner in this season better. The idea of Hunter having a young side kick to play off his grizzled expertise was cool. Killing her off made no narrative sense. I guess there were issues back stage?
@Rogersocal "How Hunter drove different cars"??? He hated different cars. He had the green '78 Dodge Monaco for 5 seasons. In the episode "Million Dollar Misunderstanding" he was asigned a new car after the Monaco broke and he told the police mechanic (Robert Englund of Freddy Krueger fame) to take out the motor in the new car and put it in his old one. Not until Hungter got ran off the road, flipped the Monaco and it exploded, did he finally give it up. Watch the Season5 intro to see it crash.
At :21 seconds: The letters on the forklift DRYer is seated on appear to read BOMAN. If correct, only a "W" is needed for BOWMAN, like BOWMAN GRAY, an honored benefactor to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Many were attending college in Winston-Salem when HUNTER left the air. The "W" is unrelated to George W. Bush, though he and DRYer were born the same day, JULY 6, 1946. It appears that a MICROWAVE box is moved in front of DRYer, linking to DRYing via RAY beam attack 10 years later
And I agree with you. The order I like them from most to least are Seasons 6, 4, 3, 8, 5, 2, 1, and 7. What I mean 8 is that's the music from when they tried to revive Hunter in 2003. Search for Hunter revival. Both Fred Dryer and Stephanie Kramer reprised their roles Hunter and McCall. New cast members were Mike Gomez as Gallardo, Alex Mendoza as Santiago, Sid Sham as Keyes, and Michelle Gold as Monetti. Too bad Charles Hallahan couldn't have come back but he died in 1997.
The did bring the entire series on DVD. You can buy all 7 complete seasons at tvdvdworld on the Internet. The price looks good to me as well. It's only $150.00 dollars for the whole series. I don't think it gets much better than that.
It was featured in a layout in GM High Tech Performance magazine, May 2001. Besides I've talked to him about it. Only flaw in 'Hunter' was that he never drove one.
Well here's a fact for all of you: The 1990-1991 Season marked the end of an era: It was the end of HUNTER, it was the end of Dallas and it was the end of Paradise/Guns of Paradise But it was the beginning of Law & Order, Beverly Hills 90210 and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air BTW, when Season 7 came about, there was no Stepfanie Kramer and it wasn't the same w/o her. and plus, they picked a bad night to air HUNTER as well Wednesday Nights on NBC didn't help the show

I only liked this video because it's "Hunter", but I didn't care for this intro theme much at all. For me, the instrumental has a "Down on the Bayou" feel (nothing wrong with it for a different show, specifically one which takes place in New Orleans or something, but L.A., and "Hunter"? Nah). On another note, I think Darlanne Fluegel was a good choice to replace Stefanie Kramer (I feel Fluegel was a tough cookie herself, like Kramer), but by then the show ran its course and it seems Fluegel wasn't crazy about the show, or the show in her. Heck, I think in her opening credit sequence she's kind of hung out to dry (to me the scene demonstrated at the end of her credit awkwardly lingers).
@monaco74 Don't forget the joke of the 1st season or so was that they always assigned Hunter an old and beat up police car as Hunter had the nasty habit of always crashing or wrecking them.

MIKE POST DID SOME GREAT INTRO MUSIC HE WAS THE BEST
King of the TV intro theme, that's for sure. Today's intro themes are completely forgettable.

2, actually. One was killed off halfway through the season, and replaced with another
This is my favorite intro by far! :)
Great theme Song Hunter Is awesome Show I love all the Hunter theme songs.
This must be the only series that got a slower, more mellow remix of it's opening theme song later in the series.
Check out the Starsky & Hutch themes season by season.

Niles: "Did CaCa do a No-No in the kitchen?" Loved her as CC Babcock.
Darlene Fluegal (sp?) didn't want to be on the TV show which is why her character was killed off. And yes that is CC Babcock from the Nanny.
Excellennt

Actually listening to him right now on CRN 1 radio. No dumb jock here. Very articulate.
Feels like a complete rebranding of the series.
Hunter needed McCall that's obvious by fan support of revival series with much older Hunter and Mccall
a change in cast for the final season is usually considered a warning sign.
Hunter rocked from 1984 to 1990

the 80s action shows were off the hook. simple stories. ALL ACTION
I guess that the change in opening music was another way to emphasize that the show went in a different direction.
This kinda slowed things down for the series. The theme just wasn't pulling you in anymore. It got this New Orleans kinda beat.
Musical score by Walter Murphy of A Fifth of Beethoven fame! Pretty cool!
