I have a 0311xf Gen 5, 3-Wood and 3-Hybrid. LOVE them both! Before I had SIM MAX 3-wood and 3-Hybrid I just couldn't hit them for the life of me. The Change to these PXG's have changed my long distances game, completely. Currently my 3-Wood Distance is 230-251. 3-Hybrid Distance is 210-234. (Arccos Data) THANK YOU PXG!
Amen. I went through every 5/3 wood in the past 3 years and this years PXGs are my favorite clubs to be released since I started playing golf. So easy to hit and extremely forgiving. Good job putting the spotlight on these beauties. ❤
I was fitted for a 7 wood about 6 weeks ago and was surprised at how good it feels and performs. Almost as long as my previous 5 wood. So I was also fit into a 4 wood and driver. I just couldn't believe the performance of all the Black Ops woods. Before that fitting I was not a fan of PXG, but I've certainly changed my mind since then. It's entirely possible I'll be gaming a whole bag of PXG clubs later this year. Anyone looking for new woods this year should give the Black Ops models serious consideration. I don't think they'll be disappointed.
I have the Black Ops driver (9 degrees), 4 wood (currently adjusted to 18 degrees), and 7 wood (currently adjusted to 22 degrees) Absolutely love all of them. They are all beasts. I have the weights in all of them at standard. The 7 wood especially is incredibly fun to hit and easily launches high with a lot of distance. These clubs are a lot of fun and have definitely improved my game!
Hey man, I've the driver (10.5 set to 11.5) awaiting my 4 wood and considering a 7 wood as a 4iron replacement. Did you replace an iron or keep 4iron and 7 wood in the bag? Cheers
@@johnWilliams-jl3fi Hey man! I have the driver, 4 wood, and 7 wood. Then I have the Gen 6 P irons bent one degree weak. So I have 5 iron (24 degrees) through Gap Wedge (50 degrees) and then I have the Sugar Daddy II wedges in 54/13, 58/13, and 62/10. I find that the 7 wood put up to 22 degrees and the 5 iron at 24 degrees has a good distance gap and the 7 wood is pretty easy to hit! Btw I usually shoot in the low to mid 80s (on the verge of breaking 80 more consistently) with a driver swing speed around 105 MPH just for reference. And I would have gotten a PXG putter as they are very good, but I opted for the Cobra Agera RS since it is a nice stable mallet but not oversized and it is 3D Printed with Descending Loft Technology for a more consistent roll. It’s really nice. This bag setup is working very well for me!
@@Ty_Ung thanks for that man. I totoaly team PXG at the min. I've ordered the Allan putter so waiting for that to arrive too. My irons are Takomo 101T which I love but like many wknd golfers (8.7hc) the 4iron is very hit a miss and putting something in the bag that's a bit easier to hit with more consistent results might be the key. Appreciate you taking the time to response and happy golfing man.
Have a whole new set that came in the mail literally 6 hours ago today! Black ops 9* driver, black ops woods (4 and 7), 0317t (4-gap), sugar daddy 2 wedges (54,58), and couldn’t be happier. Will have to refit myself for the best shaft for me, when I’m back in the studio (club champion Cincinnati) next week. Those new Aretera shafts are pretty nice.
I tested the black ops 3w at my local Club Champion just a few weeks ago. Looks, sound, feel, were all great! The distance and spin rates were comparable to other OEM’s. The issue was, for whatever reason, it sat open at address for me. Even my fitter noticed and it was confirmed with the swing data. So we didn’t hit more than seven or eight shots with it. I should also add I’m not a big fan of the “glossy” crown look. I do prefer the matte finish. My current 3w is a Ping g425 max. But PXG definitely has my attention and I’ll be looking at future models.
@@jbweezer funny you mention that part about the sunlight - I actually think it was the light in the studio reflecting off the head that caused it to sit open. Because it was really bright. As far as a matte option for this years clubs, I hit the Cobra Darkspeed LS and really liked it. It just wasn’t that much better for me to spend another $400 on! But if you’re in the market, definitely take a look at them as well.
Had the black ops fairway in the bag for a couple of months performs great. Looks great from above but has that flat sole pingesk which I like. I tend get on better with that compared to a rounder sole. Sound feel and performance . Also have the driver this years release is so underrated
I love a good fairway test. However, for the majority of club golfers, we shouldn't be playing a 3w, personally I would prefer to see a test of a 5w and 7w in the same family rather than, as here, the 3w and 5w. For me I think the testing of the 5w was a bit limited. I would also want to see Ian trying to hit a lower one to see how easy that is, because sometimes on a long par 3 or long par 5 we need a shot that comes in low and runs on rather than landing softly. Similarly any test should try shaping shots left and right to see if the club head makes that easy or not because particularly on par 5s the second shot often has to be shaped around trees (maybe that says more about my driving!). For me a really good 5w or 7w has to be able to do all those things
No way Ian or Mike game these. Flight looks too soft, with too much spin variance. Might look decent in isolation, but would fall short in direct comparison with other options. Probably why they don't get pulled that often in the fits?
The issue is PXG has a reputation for terrible woods. Up until Gen 5 they were terrible and the PXG fitters would tell you that. I've had the Gen 5 and 6 and both are awesome. Once reviewers like yourself and others start talking them up then people will come around on them.
The only exception might be the 0211 7w from a couple years back. I hit that thing on rails and it's embarrassingly good for my questionable swing. I cannot hit out of bounds off the tee with it, which is good if I'm tired or having a shaky day. I get a very boring 220 yards with it off the tee with a 10 yard dispersion total. Yes please!
@@jbweezer I have this same club...bought it on when they had it on clearance for like $95 thinking it would be fun to mess around with. Went in the bag and has never come out. About 220 for me too and easy to hit from most lies.
Of what use are these videos to average golfers who can barely hit a driver 210 yards. Cmon guys do some testing for the average golfer rather than 115 mph swing speeds.
Free country and all are entitled to their own opinion, moreover my experience with the PXG people, customer service and the products has been stellar! I have the Gen 6 XF and they have been very good! recently purchased the Black Ops 7 wood and the finding you see here from Mike and Ian are correct. They feel, look and perform the best of any PXG FW to date. Expensive? Yes but isn’t all golf equipment. Lose your bag to airline incompetence and you will be shocked how expensive it is to replace any brand, with new gear. Just my opinion and nothing against any who disagree.

I purchased a LH Pxg black ops 0311 7 Wood in February. The hype is real. Best club in my bag for 2024

Love my PXG Black Ops 10.5 Driver, 3W, 5W & 4H. For me Longer, straighter and more forgiving than my Callaway Mavrik.
I went the same route, but 9 deg driver. Best top end of my bag in a long time, and I tried almost everything

Matte needs to come back! Glossy is too distracting in bright sun. I'm buying their old matte clubs at a discount either new or ebay cuz of this.

I got fitted in PXG London over the weekend because of you guys, fairway woods #5 arrived today.… will blame you guys if it doesn't work!!
I love a fairway wood video.
As fast as anything out. Good launch. Low spin.
Getting the weights configured properly will be onerous for better players who give this 3w a go.

Nice review. Do you have any key takeaways to compare the new Black Ops fairway woods to last year's model your team reviewed? Thanks!
Have you guys ever tested the 0311 Gen 6 woods? Not the black ops, is it worth the money to upgrade to the black ops?
Can you do a five wood competition
comparison
The problem with these for us in Australia is lack of availability and price. Clearly preform well though.
Very interesting , in the past PXG lacked high-quality woods.
This vs Darkspeed LS... Same weight adjustability on both
I want to try these. 5 wood is right where I want it.
Black Ops Hybrid test next please
So you both got fitted for these, but neither of you have them in the bag. So must not be that good?
No way Ian or Mike game these. Flight looks too soft, with too much spin variance. Might look decent in isolation, but would fall short in direct comparison with other options. Probably why they don't get pulled that often in the fits?
The face of the 5-wood looks like a hybrid to me. That makes it less atractive.
