- Donkeys need grooming too! Not as much as horses but they still need it. It's also a great way to bond and build the relationship so donkey training will go easier!
If you are going to ride or drive your donkey he will need more grooming so that pieces of dirt will not be pushed into the skin. An uncomfortable donkey will not drive or ride very well!
Donkeys have a very different coat from horses. It's longer and more course. They also hold more dust in their coats than horses do. Their skin is different too. It doesn't contain the oils that horse skin does.
In this video, I show Jasper who is extremely dirty with caked-on mud from all-out winter rains. I get him mud-free in no time though!

Great video. Very helpful. I've always loved donkeys but never had one of my own. Our friends own a petting farm/adventure park and my husband works there in the hands on white tail deer side. I've always had a special way with animals and have been able to gentle or make friends with many kinds of animals. (Even a pair of wild mute swans that come when I call their names, eat from my hand and bring their babies to meet me each year just after hatching.) So because the owners are so busy, I spend time with the Jenny's, grooming them and getting them used to their halters and just loving them. When we have babies I work a lot with them teaching them manners and getting them used to people. I just use a rubber curry comb and I have a shedding rubber bar that works great to get their heavy winter coats stripped out. After seeing your video I am going to Tractor Supply and am going to get to the gloves and stuff short curry comb too. They just bought 2 new Jenny's so now I will have 6 to groom. Very nice video. Gorgeous donkey and the scenery is stunning. I was watching another one of your vids where you was riding along a river. Just wondering If that's the Cumberland River . Anyway I'm Boo, Renee's lesser half. She really speaks highly of you. And again, I really really like your place. I was c raised in Tennessee. It once was a little place called Bartlett, Tn. I went back last year for the 1st time in 20 and it's just an extension of Memphis now. I wouldn't want to live there now. Too many people and not enough Boxers and Donkeys. I'm older than Abraham Lincoln and I want to have one pull me around before I have to leave for the other side. lol

I have a 7 month old donkey about that size and body shape. What;s your guesstimate on the weight and is that a healthy tummy or a chubby one?

Hi I came across a donkey and it’s tail is basically burdock weed , completely ruined , no idea where owners are so I want to get it out myself , any tips , I may have to cut the whole hair off as it’s the worst as u can imagine ? Thanks
