Came out in 1980 and was a UK no1. Shaky also played Elvis on the stage in London

The most successful solo artist during the 80's in the UK

One of the first songs i remember. I was 4 years old when this was number 1 in the UK. Shaky is still recording and performing music into his 70s.

Shaky was the most successful singles act of the 80s in the U.K. - outsold MJ, Duran Duran, U2, etc

Specifically, he was the most successful British _solo_ singer of the 80s, outselling the likes of Elton John and David Bowie. He deserves waaay more respect than he gets. AND...he's in his mid 70s now and he's still going.

I met him once, outside after his concert. Said he had to rush off so no autograph, sad times haha I’ve heard him called the Welsh Elvis. He was a big fan

I remember listening to this song in the early 60s by frankie Vaughan- it was covered by shaky in 1980 -great cover- he done some other great covers following his success playing elvis on stage - well worth checking out his other hits. 🇬🇧.

Has been a while since I have heard this. Really popular, here when it came out. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
    Great choice Harold
Hey Mike, it's about time you showed Ginger the Whiter Shade Of Pale performance from Denmark in 2006. Unfortunately Gary Brooker from Procal Harum just died a couple of days ago.

Mike and Ginger I believe is a 50’s song? Don’t remember by who. This cover was in 1980’s, unsure exact year. Hope this was useful, if you still care. Didn’t follow his songs just remember was played on radio, A LOT. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺

1981…this was originally a hit for Jim Lowe back in the 50s. Shaky actually started way back in 1968 but only debuted on the UK charts in 1979…but then had an unequalled run of consecutive hits through to 1992…including 4 #1s (of which this was the second).

I have not seen this since i was a kid. I was likely to young to appreciate him then. But he was not bad looking back then.

In addition to the famous Shirley Bassey, Bonnie Tyler, and the "Welsh Tiger" Tom Jones...Wales in the late seventies and early 1980s blessed the World and the known Universe with the best possible European answer to Elvis Presley...even better than Cliff Richard or Ted Harold!
Walking on a razor's edge mixing seventies neo-rockabilly with sweet eighties American pop rock, Shaky was the sensation of the decade!
As for me "Green Door" was his #2... just after "This ol' house" and way before "Julie"!!!

Ginger, you might've heard one of the older versions of the song, like the original 1956 recording by US singer, Jim Lowe, or the UK's Frankie Vaughan, who covered it, also in 1956?!
(Vaughan's cover proved more popular in the charts than the original!!) 😲
