- 1982 Suzuki FA50 walk around, start up and quick ride around the park.
This was the first day that the scooter ran after 25 years of being parked.
Top speed is about 25 MPH, maybe a 26 down hill... Any suggestions how to make it go a little faster?
This was my grandfathers 1982 Suzuki FA50, it was parked in 1992 and never rode again... In October 2016, I decided to get this little lady out and running again.
Everything that was taken care of before even starting:
1) Aired Flat Tires
2) New Battery
3) Drained Old Oil
4) Cleaned Oil Tank
5) Drained Gas
6) Cleaned Gas Tank
7) Changed Spark Plug
8) Changed Crank Case Oil
9) New Air Filter
10) Cleaned Carburetor (still didn't start)
11) Replaced Fuel Lines
12) Cleaned Carburetor again
13) Replaced broken throttle cable.
14) Set Idol & Air Screws
15) Ride like a Bat Out of Hell
I had one of those in 1986 when i was stationed in GUAM (USAF Anderson AFB). Was great to get around in as the max speed limit was 35 for the whole Island. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
i got/had an 87. identical to yours. got it in 91-92 i think when i was 13 or 14 and in iowa 14 could get license to drive them on streets. I still got it. been in storage 20 years after i kept growing and got too heavy for it. used it for paper routes and work and go see movies and friends and everything as teen. they were limited to 25mph as of state or fed laws. though down a steep hill the speedo would hit 40 and the engine sounded like it was gonna blow apart. not much to do to make them faster. the mods out there will over rev engine and wear it out faster for maybe 5mph more. mine had like 2k miles when i got it. dad bought from neighbor and sold to me for $200 when i was 14 in 1992. Yes i had 2 jobs by then and was buying all my own stuff. 14k or so as of 20 years ago when put in storage. i put 10k+ on it in iowa before moving in 98.
I had this same moped back in the 1980’s when I was a teenager. I Loved it so much and miss it dearly. So simple and so much fun!!!!

I love ridding it! Not fast, but it’s a blast!!
The stock top speed on these was 28 miles an hour so you pretty close to that a dirty exhaust pipe would probably be the first thing i would check for to get those extra couple mph
Beautiful wonderful machine but need to be more perfect type engine 4 stroke not 2 electric starter
