@thomasbrower: you can do pranayama( restraint of life force within the body via breath methods). When you stop the breath( hold the prana), the chatter in your heads or thought will also stop. This is just temporary method. If you are into spirituality chanting lords name will also.help to bring about yogic mind. In fact, this is most powerful method. In India lords name aren't just jibberish sounds, but sound energy residing immense power. With a constant chanting of a Lord a sound vibration is created in the body influencing the pyscho-domatic dynamics. Ultimately, these are doing energy influencing the subtlest parts of atom. With constant chanting, the atoms in all parts of your body and mind starts waking up and transcends you into higher dimension of consciousness ( in India it is called samadhi). You can research what samadhi is in wikipedia. But I can tell you that it is the highest state of mind. In this state the person will see the true form of every being in the universe which is nothing but sea of consciousness and bliss. Also known as gods consciousness. It is a very rare sight to meet a yogi who I am in a state of samadhi. They don't self declare that they are in samadhi state because they don't live in the body consciousness ( ego state). But you can feel their presence by the way they talk and watching their behaviour. Normally they are super quiet and only talk when you are needed or have to. Swami Krishna Nanda in this article briefly describes the stages of samadhi here : www.swami-krishnananda.org/disc/disc_178.html
@kiplambel4052 not everyone can go into isolation of meditation but everyone can realize the self since it is everyone's nature. Advaita Vedanta's path is the path of knowledge not the path of practice. If you get it you don't have to spend your life on a cave.. Vivekananda himself said that.
With practice and time, you can remain calm amidst chaos. The real test is not having a calm mind in isolation, but maintaining peace in the most chaotic environments. GL.
Thank you Swamiji 😊 🙏 ❤

Easier to have such a mind when in isolation in the himalayas.. but we get the point anyway.
That's a bit simple minded. There are monks, advanced practioners, who run meditation centres in busy cities and towns, but we get your point

such a mind is developed in the isolation of meditation, but then carried anywhere you go.
