my problem is that the closed curve for the prong it doesnt turn to open sub curve even after rebuild it

Thanks. and rebuild cannot turn close curve to open curve. you will need to split the curve first.

why can't I pick the edge of the circle for bridge

not sure what you exact did, but if you pick up one edge and always hold the shift key to double click next edge.

I get the same issue. It's creating a closed extrusion, not an open subd surface.
Solved: I had to hold ctrl to get it to make a subd surface, not a closed extrusion
