Elden Ring is not only a great souls game but a great open world, you can choose which boss to take down, which path to take, finishing the game as quickly as possible or taking all the time of the world, with that idea I would recommend The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well, and it feels weirdly familiar with Dark Souls 1 except by the punish for die
That kinda makes me wish dying in BOTW would send you back to the last Shrine/Tower you interacted with. Especially since you can pause the game at any time and heal up. Would force you to strategize more.
Sounds like a stupid idea. Games being open gives me anxiety because what if i am doing it wrong? what if i didn't pick up an equipment that was picked up by 90% of the players? what am i missing? i like dark souls better where its linear and i dont feel left behind. With that said, elden ring still deserves GOTY.
Absolutely love salt and sanctuary highly recommend it to anyone interested in souls like. I’ve played through it four times so far I really enjoy replaying and trying new weapons types and builds, there is more variety than you would expect from a 20$ title.
All about the player I guess. Platforming is typically more difficult for me too. If you’re having a hard time I’d recommend starting fresh or changing weapons, typically the hammer and great sword are good for smashing your obstacles. You can find a very strong hammer (the war hammer) in the early game in the sunken keep. And if you’re stuck on the dragon you need that hammer it gives him a serious headache.
i hated it unfortunately. ugly artstyle and stamina bar in a 2D game. ugh. in castlevania you could do these really cool combos to hit faster by jumping and crouching. none of it here
I actually got myself Ashen and Tails of Iron yesterday as I got my paycheck 🤭🤭🤭. Thanks for your awesome videos, its really nice to see them pop up during the day, has always something for everybody. Cheers!
Tails of Iron is really a good buy right now bc not only is it on sale for a couple more days, but it recently got a sizable free dlc content. Adds some post game story and new bosses. With the new content and the sale price, it's an absolute must get.
Great grouping of games and one of my favorite genres if Soulslike is an official genre. And don't worry about all the mixing and matching because it is hard to find a game these days that fits solely within just a single genre. I, myself, have Dark Souls, Death's Door, Blasphemous, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, Morbid and the Animus games. Eldest Souls and Death's Gambit are on the Wish List. I suppose I truly like dying, its unfortunate that I am not used to it yet however.
It’s probably the only one aside from Skyrim to actually be anything remotely like Souls. That’s as good as it’s gonna get for Switch. Aside from the idk how many last gens ago of the Dark Souls port.
I'd say it's more weighty combat than any soul games til Elden Ring, the hit response just a lot more organic given how experienced they got from MH series
@@BadEnd98 Touche, I only played as a mage/sorcerer++ but I always felt the casting delays for biggest spells felt… well, like you said, more organic. Even “weighty” in a way. It wasn’t just some button mash immediate gratification thing, aside from the basic attack for Sorcerer’s.

Metroidvanias, Zeldalikes and Soulslikes are all cut from the same cloth. It's the interconnected map with focus on exploration that ties them together. The Souls series takes a lot of inspiration from the other two genres.
Dragon's Dogma is great! My fondest memory in that game was forgetting to return to town a nighttime (and forgetting to refuel my lantern) and had to slowly make my way to town avoiding the wraiths, ghouls and zombies that spawn only at night.
@@ben8446 research the true ending before you go any further. I accidentally locked myself out of the true ending on my first playthrough. Thus missing out on some great weapon upgrades
like you guys said, in much ways dark souls is a metroidvania (more in line with metroid prime), because of the interconnected maze-like world, the ambiental storytelling, and the combat more focused on dodging. And not many people know that, and I think we (switch owners) should look forward to that, because it gives us hope that Metroid Prime 4 wil be as impactfull as Dark Souls has been. I hope MP4 takes cues from Dark Souls. I love the most recent Metroid games but man they really don't do that looparound sort of level design anymore. And if they do, they lock you off of old areas before you can revisit them again
1700+ hours in Dark Souls I. Elden Ring is the first since DSI that’s captured that same magic for me. Nothing better than a souls-like. While Dragon’s Dogma may not quite fit the bill, I do feel like it has that dark fantasy feel, and definitely the replayability.
Been playing Morbid: The Seven Acolytes this week and feel it'd fit well in this list. Stamina based combat, dodge rolls, parries, and best yet a grotesque art style!
Exactly what I was looking for. Dark souls hardly go on sale and I know the switch could play up to sekiro with graphic adjustments I just hope fromsoftware gives us more games on switch
Blasphemous is a little slow and takes a lot of patience to get into, but the artstyle and the fascinating Spanish cultural references make the experience worth it The pixel art is gorgeous and the architecture in some areas blew me away when I first discovered them While this may be controversial I also think it takes the best approach to world design out of any metroidvania I've ever played, it gives the player a lot of freedom to explore without becoming aimless because each area will always funnel you towards a boss fight, and said areas don't feel disconnected because the game always finds a way to link them back to the rest of the map, which is similar to Dark Souls 1

Absolutely LOVING Elden Ring. My friend was over last night and forgot to bring his Xbox to play while I was on my PC so I threw him onto my Switch and recommended Dragon's Dogma just to itch that scratch for the evening.
Just finished playing death gambit after learning about it from the channel. Liked it so much got the best ending as well. It's definitely a bit more of a metrovania than a souls like but it definitely has many souls like elements. Would definitely recommend!
No list of games on Switch that are "like Dark Souls but" is complete without Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. A metroidvania with that same melancholy, world gone bad atmosphere, dodge rolls, limited healing items that refill at checkpoints, enemies that will punish you for not paying attention, and some tough boss fights (Pardoner Fennel is a favorite of mine). It's relatively short at about 5-6 hours but it's fun and satisfying. On another note, the first Dark Souls definitely has metroidvania elements in its world design so it's no coincidence that several of these are full metroidvanias.
Awesome! I have Fury which I've played only a bit which is definitely different, challenging yet rewarding. I just have a bit of that feeling where I wish there was more in between with the bosses. But it's a boss type of game I suppose, that downtime and simplicity is just non existent. Hollow Knight I recently snagged on a sale and a lot of these I've heard of! Ashen is super tempting to me. I LOVED Remnant from the Ashes and have been curious about Chronos as well as all THQ Nordic since then- Darksiders as well. Great vid, keep up the creativity!
Great list guys! I've been a fan of Fromsoftware for a long time...Would highly recommend these if you want the closest thing to SoulsBorne games: Blasphemous Salt&Sanctuary Vigil: The Longest Night Ashen Morbid: The Seven Acolydes Dark Devotion Tails of Iron Death's Gambit
when not playing elden ring i am re doing ender lies.. was 5hrs in but decided to restart and now im 9hrs in on 2nd save file, soo damn good. deaths door is up next in my "Need to Start" folder!
I honestly have not even got around to the first Dark souls yet and I don't want to even think about Elden ring or these new souls inspired games until then. Dark souls has been on my steam wishlist for years but I was hoping for the switch magic to help me fit in the time to play it like it has for some other older ports I got around to on it these last few years. Maybe the next time its on sale I'll go for it.
I have and love most of the games in this list and they are all excellent picks really. Hollow Knight needs no introduction and it’s very simply put my fav game of all time. Eldest Souls is my latest purchase and I am loving it.. only con: the text size is ridiculously small. Still need to get Death’s Door, which I believe is currently on sale, I think that’s gonna be my purchase of the week.
Oh hey, I'd never heard of Death's Gambit before this but it looks outstanding! That's a ton of depth and customization options and I do indeed like a good comeback story. Definitely going on the wish list. I really like videos like these that showcase games which may not be as well known, especially once they're buried in the eShop. Keep it up guys! Cheers
Yees,I've been searching for this kind of games because I gave Dark souls 2 a try and I'm loving it and I like playing in handheld mode ,so I've been craving some soulslike games on switch, roght on time 😆
I love Blasphemous, I’ve played through it 3 times and am currently on my 4th run. A sequel was confirmed some months ago, looking forward to that! I’ve had some of the mentioned games on my wishlist, but my backlog is a relentless enemy…
@@markbroderick8055 So far it’s been announced for 2023. If you watch the Wound of evertide animated trailer you can see a roman number 2 and “2023” below it
All of these titles are great soul’s like experiences on switch. It’s still strange that Dark souls 2 nor 3 has come to switch yet. When the switch itself has had sequel remasters and ports such as AssCreed 3/4 & Ezio collection, to the Excellent Crysis games, to the DMC’s 1+2+3 collection and more. Yet the switch still lacks DS 2 & 3. Bandai namco is just weird I guess, lol.
Damn. Decay of Logos is a thorn in my brain. I followed it on Twitter when it was just announced back then and all through development up to launch and bought it day one and it felt like getting punched in the face. All the promise was still there but buried deep beneath a horrible experience. The story, setting, vistas, sounds, and combat were there. But performance was atrocious. Then they updated it and I got it for free. And it still suffered. Lite and heavy attacks were indistinguishable, potions wouldn't work always, inventory system was broken, and the frame rate was still jaunty as hell. I still think about it for what it could be but it breaks my heart cause it could have been the greatest Souls-like ever but ended up a nearly unplayable piece of trash
I frikkin loved hollow knight but it did get too difficult for my old man skill level, with that in mind if any of the community can recommend the best of these 11 titles that aren’t as hard has HK, I am all ears. Thanks guys, See Yaaaa! 😜
It's not on this list but maybe look at Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. It's definitely easier than Hollow Knight but still has that melancholy, all-hope-is-lost atmosphere.
Thanks guys. I feel like you made this one just for me, and that’s awesome. I’ve been enjoying elden ring, but it’s nice to have a spot with other soulslikes compiled, because elden ring will end and I will be looking for more ways to scratch the souls itch. This is the gift that keeps on giving. Cheers guys, see yaaaaa
My issue with these videos is that at the end I want to buy 90% of the games. Well... hollow Knight most likely going to be my next! Thank you for the great video, was looking exactly for this!
I'm surprised that Immortal Planet isn't on the list. It has a "souls-like" battle system, but unlike the games listed in this video, it has a science-fiction setting.
Salt and Sanctuary is definitely the best on switch. But everything on the list is great. The switch seems to do best either the 2D souls like. Ender Lillies, Death's Gambit, Hollow Knight, Vigil.
I see you mentioned it in the comments, but Hellpoint is probably my second favorite Souls-like on Switch. Second after Dark Souls, and frankly if it weren't for the occasional frame or resolution drops and the crashiness in some areas, I might even consider it a tie with Dark Souls. They also have DLC coming out soon - AFAIK after the initial Elden Ring rush dies down.
I really enjoyed Ender Lilies I'll got all three endings, the attacks being the spirits was just so neat...I have S&S on the PS4, but never really invested in it...I bought Virgil have it to get into it yet maybe after Elden Ring.
Hellpoint is very good. You seemed to like like from the the review, but the frame rate was a bit ropey in the open sections at the time. Plays much better now. Shame that the Switch isn't getting the graphic update and dlc though.
I'm a bit surprised Unsighted didn't make the list. Brilliant game with great souls like combat and an incredibly compelling narrative device. Unsighted and Death's Gambit were 2 of my favorite games I played in the last year
I'm a huge soullike and metriodvania fan and the combo is fantastic. I've played and beat most these games here except eldest souls and a couple honorable mentions. if you haven't played Ender Lillie's, you are really missing out. It's an absolute 10 out of 10.
The one game they didn't mention was Elder's Scroll: Skyrim. I am playing it through again because it's so much fun! You can become a thief, vampire, wolf and you can create your own character. You can be an Elf, an Orc, a Lizard & others. You can do magic, upgrade your armor & weapons and just a lot of cool stuff as well as side quests.
I need to go back and try to finish Chronos, I just don't know when I'll have the time. And Hellpoint, that's another Soulsbourne style game that I could spend more time on, I guess... But I recently picked up a physical copy of Disco Elysium that I'm itching to play, but I, again, don't know when I'll have the time for it...
l would definitely recommend Watcher Chronicles its like salt n sanctuary. but with more cartoon approach to animation. great game flow and boss fights and plenty of gear to. level. up
Souls games are the best! Dark souls is so tough but so rewarding, dying on a boss 47 times and then beating it. Haven't played elden ring and don't plan on yet! Not on switch😭
Now just hoping that Dark Souls 2, 3 and Remnant: From The Ashes will be making their way to Switch soon. And while I'm wishing, Nioh and Jedi Fallen Order as well.
Would have been soo good if they made local co op on 2 switch consoles . Other than that Salt and sanctuary is the best metroidvania / souls like game in 2d hands down .
Very versatile disappointed I didn't see Hellpoint in this Super cool souls like game taking place in space But still a very good video mate Found some games Ima checkbout
Just started Dead Cells loving it 🥰 I own Blasphemous Morbid and Hyperlight Drifter but haven’t started them properly yet. I think Gods Will Fall should be in that list personally that’s one of the hardest games I’ve played.

Probably just me but don't have the patience for Souls games crafting whatnots and all that, but it's a SwitchUp video I couldn't resist
Couldn't have timed it better. I just finished Eldest souls and my god what a gem. Glad you guys mentioned it. Thanke as always lads!
Cheers brother yeah I loved that one, great game! Mark
Great list guys! I've been a fan of Fromsoftware for a long time...Would highly recommend these if you want the closest thing to SoulsBorne games:
Blasphemous
Salt&Sanctuary
Vigil: The Longest Night
Ashen
Morbid: The Seven Acolydes
Dark Devotion
Tails of Iron
Death's Gambit
when not playing elden ring i am re doing ender lies.. was 5hrs in but decided to restart and now im 9hrs in on 2nd save file, soo damn good. deaths door is up next in my "Need to Start" folder!
Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is a really fun boss rush souls like with a unique twist
Since Elden Ring came out, I haven’t turned on my Switch once :D
I feel ya I feel ya
Oh hey, I'd never heard of Death's Gambit before this but it looks outstanding! That's a ton of depth and customization options and I do indeed like a good comeback story. Definitely going on the wish list. I really like videos like these that showcase games which may not be as well known, especially once they're buried in the eShop. Keep it up guys! Cheers
Infernax in a crazy good souls like metroidvania
Immortals Fenyx Rising has a surprisingly fair bit of Souls like elements and combat that I wasn’t expecting
Yeah, love this one...
I love immortals fenyx rising
Yees,I've been searching for this kind of games because I gave Dark souls 2 a try and I'm loving it and I like playing in handheld mode ,so I've been craving some soulslike games on switch, roght on time 😆
Ah good stuff! Mark
Seeing Eldest Souls never fails to give me a chuckle with the game name alone haha
Blasphemous, Salt and Sanctuary & Death's Gambit are so good. Some of the best games I've played on my switch.
I love Blasphemous, I’ve played through it 3 times and am currently on my 4th run. A sequel was confirmed some months ago, looking forward to that!
I’ve had some of the mentioned games on my wishlist, but my backlog is a relentless enemy…
Love it but man do I find it hard
Any info on when we can expect the sequel?
@@markbroderick8055 So far it’s been announced for 2023. If you watch the Wound of evertide animated trailer you can see a roman number 2 and “2023” below it
@@Roboshoter thank you. I can't wait!
Nice to see this video shared in the Switch Weekly newsletter 👍🏼
Really where was that!? Mark
Just picked up Dragon's Dogma on sale and it's fantastic. A wonderful blend of Skyrim, Dark Souls, and a bit of Monster Hunter.
Genuinely shocked you omitted to mention 'Hellpoint' for Nintendo Switch but at least it got a shout-out in the comments.
Elden Ring is one of the best games ever made
I have every game on the list except Chronos
😎🤙👍👍
It went in to my top five games ever within the first ten hours. Mark
Without a doubt my favourite genre of games
Ditto! Mark
No elden ring is definitely a problem lol, I am hooked!
There is a physical version of Salt & Sanctuary - you get a manual, poster and soundtrack dlc
Not on Switch yet but the Devs said sometime this year but the game Grime is one I'd put in this category
I’ve been waiting for this list for a while
I'm rubbish at these games haha. Fair play to those who have the patience
My issue with these videos is that at the end I want to buy 90% of the games. Well... hollow Knight most likely going to be my next!
Thank you for the great video, was looking exactly for this!
HK is the best game ever! Maybe the hardest, trying to do the 112%
Hellpoint !!!!!!! The best souls like on switch 💥💥💥
Really tempted to get this is in the current sale. My wallet is already so unhealthy, I’m torn
Nice list! I am surprised to find Ashen to have a physical version, would love to add it to my physical collections~
Vigil: The Longest Night is a very solid 2D soulslike. I stuck with it much longer than Salt and Sanctuary or Ender Lilies
Yes this should/could have made this list! Mark
It’s ok. The performance on Switch isn’t great though and the load times take too long.
@@darkdaysahead01 I don’t remember that being a problem for me, played a lot worse on switch performance wise
Just came to add the same, loved salt and sanctuary, looking forward to the sequel too, but vigil is friggin awesome.
I really enjoyed Ender Lilies I'll got all three endings, the attacks being the spirits was just so neat...I have S&S on the PS4, but never really invested in it...I bought Virgil have it to get into it yet maybe after Elden Ring.
Salt and Sanctuary is such a phenomenal 2d souls game!
I agree! Loved it in vita and loving it again on my switch. One of my favourites
Hellpoint is very good. You seemed to like like from the the review, but the frame rate was a bit ropey in the open sections at the time. Plays much better now.
Shame that the Switch isn't getting the graphic update and dlc though.
the fact that you are kind enoug to put the price in MXN just blows my mind, great content! new subscriber :D
I can confirm, Ashen is on sale for 11.99$ right now. (March/25/2022)
HELLPOINT!! It’s literally Dark Soul plus Event Horizon! Patches have helped frame rate too. Just beware it’s even bleaker tone lol
my personal list:
1. dark souls remastered
2. dragon's dogma dark arisen
3. salt and sanctuary
4. hollow knight
5. ashen
Been waiting for Salt and Sanctuary to go on sale for more than a year now. Come oooon! 😋
I have had Tails of Iron sitting in my backlog for 3 months I think. Guess is time to get to it
Blasphemous did indeed get DLC, but the creators also announced a sequel a few months ago.
I dont know about the Switch version but Hellpoint is quite good. Especially in coop
I actually thought dead cells felt like souls in how every enemy can kill you in 2 hits
Love salt and sanctuary, quite excited for the sequel
Vigil The Longest Night is a really good 2D soulslike.
That is not close to dark souls
Oh I love that for sure! Mark
If it counts, Unsighted is a top down Adventure with Souls-like elements
2d Zelda merged with Dark Souls is awesome. Instant recommendation from me.
Just took the plunge on dragons dogma, only played an hour or so and got to say I'm really pleasantly surprised!
Now just hoping that Dark Souls 2, 3 and Remnant: From The Ashes will be making their way to Switch soon. And while I'm wishing, Nioh and Jedi Fallen Order as well.
Jedi Fallen Order would be great on Switch!
I ended up selling my Switch but if those games got announced I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Would have been soo good if they made local co op on 2 switch consoles . Other than that Salt and sanctuary is the best metroidvania / souls like game in 2d hands down .
vigil is one of my favorites for sure! i also recently got blasphemous and so far its pretty good
I don't mind not getting Elden Ring. I just want Namco to give us Dark Souls 2 & 3 and for A44 to give us Ashen 2.
Very versatile disappointed I didn't see Hellpoint in this
Super cool souls like game taking place in space
But still a very good video mate
Found some games Ima checkbout
Tales of iron is fantastic! Love the anesthetic!
Just started Dead Cells loving it 🥰 I own Blasphemous Morbid and Hyperlight Drifter but haven’t started them properly yet. I think Gods Will Fall should be in that list personally that’s one of the hardest games I’ve played.
