Liz Truss on Labour 'lies', the Bank of England and the Tory leadership race | The Daily T podcast

- Her premiership was the briefest - and one of the most memorable - in British history. Then she was ousted as an MP by the people of South West Norfolk. Now Liz Truss has come out all guns blazing, telling The Daily T she was "not responsible" for mortgages going up after her infamous mini-budget and slamming the "unaccountable" Bank of England.
In an exclusive interview with Camilla and Associate Editor Gordon Rayner, the former PM also reveals why she nearly missed the moment she lost her seat in King’s Lynn and talks about visiting Balmoral just two days before the death of Queen Elizabeth.

They bring her out to have a good laugh at this silly woman I feel a bit sorry for her now
She's making allot of money out of it, so don't feel sorry for her.
Why would anyone continue to listen to her?
And she’s still trying to promote her book
She is completely deluded. In the 2022 leadership election, Sunak predicted what would happen if she pursued her economic policy, yet she seems to think that it was everyone's fault but her own. Take some responsibility for your actions! It is also nonsense that candidates who come second don't give a concession speech. Try Michael Portillo or Ed Balls to name just two. Thank goodness she lost her seat.
Mordaunt gave an excellent speech, filled with humility and clear passion for her constituents
It's not deluded at all. The only sound economics comes from the libertarians, socialism doesn't have economics. So if she was trying to get the UK off socialism then she is correct. The Bank of England raised interest rates to get rid of her. The Bank of England doesn't want to lose it's power clearly and we are having to pay the price.
This was the leader of "Great Britain"
What a fall there was my countrymen
This is like a meeting of the flat earth society
CT is perhaps the most lightweight associate editor the DT have ever employed. No sense of impartiality - a simple stooge of the Tory Party. Her abilities can be summed up by her article in early June 2024 "Whisper it, but Rishi Sunak is staging the most remarkable comeback." Right.
Nurse, nurse. Liz has escaped again.
Rishi had a part to play in getting inflation down to 2%, he didn't give in to the inflation busting pay rises. That was completely in his control, so another lie by Liz Truss
Pay in the public sector firstly has not risen in line with inflation since 2010, which is why recruitment in sectors like nursing or the army is falling or a very big reason. Giving a pay rise to around 2 million people out of a work force of 32 million, is hardly inflationary.
@@KevenHutchinson-gt1nn His job was to make sure inflation comes down to 2% and now Labour are giving in to inflation busting pay rises when the economy is much more stable as compared to what Rishi was handed in Oct 2022.
@sunny96789 32 million vs 2 million = very little
@@sunny96789 That's completely false he printed money so saying he got inflation is entirely wrong. He inflated the currency.
Sunak WARNED HER ⚠️ But she didn't listen
She failed and lost her position, fair and square. But conservative politicians ought to heed her excuses otherwise they will become their own. The BoE is a major problem. Unaccountable bureaucracy has the country by the danglies and no conservative government can succeed until this is rectified.
The Pm or Chancellor can take control of interest rates in an emergency, and a government with a majority could always take it back permanently. The PM or Chancellor could also issue a an instruction of no confidence of the Governor of the Bank of England. She is talking nonsense.
Hmmm, I mean she claims that the problem is that the BoE, who make their decisions in a similar way to Labour have it wrong. If the BoE agree with Labour but are basing their decisions on economics, doesn't that imply that Labour economic policies have more merit?
Truss has never accepted that it was too much too soon. I admire her resilience as I would have probably cowered away in shame, but that resilience has costed her any humility she had left.
I get she feels she has been unfairly maligned, but the argument that it’s all group think is undermined by her position which is we should replace it with her own group think instead
First! Still listening, although I'm not a fan of how she conducts herself, I do respect her for trying something radical to halt the decline.
By tanking the economy?
@@gerarddearie-zd2gb I don't think that was her intention. It was terrible timing after the energy subsidy but it didn't help the boe actively sabotaged the gov. Andrew Bailey has done just as much damage but somehow he dodges ms media scrutiny.
Respect for trying? She pretty much ruined our economy and buggered off with £115k/yr
A good interview. Unusally honest for a politician.
It is soft tone not in bad tone...
If she had got her budget checked by the OBR before announcing it, the markets wouldn't have reacted so badly. She was too arrogant to get it checked by the OBR and decided to rush it through. She should take some responsibility for her actions. Shame on her, deluded beyond belief...also Rishi warned her during the leadership debates, but she didn't listen.
I wonder if Liz is worried about the allegations against her becoming public?
Liz done what she promised the financial houses didn't like it and it wasn't imposed
Woo - someone let out Loopy Liz !
Without listening, yet, I predict:
1 - None of it was LT's fault.
2 -She got a couple of small things wrong, but nothing material to anything.
3 - Everything else was down to other people, especially civil servants.
Will update later.
Having listened, I make that 3 out of 3.
In America the incoming president appoints all the key roles in government including the civil service when the president comes into power. The uk civil service system was meant ro be apolitical but Labour changed this. Maybe we have to increase the powers of the incoming government.
I guess I'll be the only commentor to say I agree with Liz Truss completely. What she tried to do was laudable, and whilst perhaps with greater political and presentational skill her premiership might have survived, there's no doubt that the forces ranged against her were formidable. Thanks for a very good interview.
Agree Simon but i think we'll never know whether her efforts or vision were indeed the best at that time given all the information at that time. I am still unsure whether her radical policies were what this country needed at that particular time and I am sure her decisions will probably come under closer scrutiny a few decades time once ALL the information is disclosed.
We all forget however, only months prior to her elevation to PM, sne was negotiating excellent post-brexit deals with the world and was widely praised for her efforts.
In December she'll be part of Big Brother
Lizard on the loose ?
I do not know why anyone would want to interview her. A period of silence and reflection from her would be most beneficial for all concerned....
This is a very interesting interview. It ties in with Labours plan to retain power when they are out of office. By moving the power away from parliament, and putting labour stooges in control of these organisations outside of parliament. Liz seems to have done her best in a difficult situation.
😂😂😂
We've had this since the dawn of time in Wales 😕
If anyone else gets voted in you'd have to swap out the entire nepotic and *inbred administration at every level of local authority overnight to get anything done.
*as in definition: Of fixed in the character or disposition as if inherited; deep-seated
Ya met the queen 👑😎🙏🙏good girl 👍
Asking Lizz Truss about economics is like asking Jack the Riper about womans healthcare
Time change honey, not the same but take it with inspiration way...
B o e fault Andrew bailey love watching she is saying and I hate her not any more
Not her fault. The UK electoral must.
well said 😂
The world was wrong 😂😂😂
A very good and honest interview about the state of affairs in politics. If Labour are just political ideologes the uk is in for a hard time over the next few years.
I just do not want to hear what this washed out politician has to say. Try interviewing someone credible! This is the first time I have EVER given any RUclips video a thumbs down.
Poor Lizzy Dripping she never quite gets it right.
Exstint 😮
So my opinion about to create new english leadership...is correct... time...ohhhh ... unknown they take it or not...
I suggest she’s anything but deluded. What she described was having responsibility without the power to make changes and that we’ve got Blair to thank for some of that. I suggest as well that the media have significantly failed to expose the dilemma she described. Very smart lady imho. Hope she joins Reform. That’s where the real conservatives go these days.
The most noble woman in England!
Are she understood, opinion and politics the difference was,do something because group of people say ,it is not politics but more to personal, politics have different with opinion or other opinion, maybe this British politics already become, stay with group that influences her mind and thought 🤔... just opinion 😱
Are she ...spoiled brats... group,ohhh....if so she totally not ready....🥸
The decline in the British economy is because we turned our backs on the biggest trading block in the world and she fully agrees with that choice the nation has taken.
And yet, doesn't recognise her tenure to be just as damaging.
Liz got thrown under a bus for a token man and pm 😳
What is Truss doing here? Shameful
Ya have no idea 💡 my city is 80 20 white minority fact check ✔️
Shameless
Greatest pm we never had
Care to explain why
Delusional
We had her. We weren't allowed to have her for long.
@@Gavin48 Thank God.
@@clairee4939 Well I actually like Liz and was very annoyed she wasn't given a chance. She would have been better than Rishi. Who did nothing and just coasted for 18 months
Liz truss should be stripped of her pension.silly woman
Why is any broadcast time still being given to this failed Prime Minister and rejected politician?
Truss is like that fly that keeps buzzing about and just will not go away.
I love truths and trust ❤
The most self serving, graceless and pointless politician in the history of the UK , embarrassing.
Based Lizzy
I had to scroll through the first 3.5mins due to these 3 burks discussing tea ffs....... Once I got past that, I'm even more convinced than ever that this woman was never PM material. How the hell she convinced other so called clever people in her party that she was the man (no pun intended) for the job boggles the mind.
UPDATE: I watched up until around 17m but gave up after hearing her completely avoiding questions relating to her taking responsibility. It's all everyone else's fault. And had the cheek to plug her book.....
Highly unprofessional and she forgot that she was once a PM, she talked and acted like a low grade office worker with ideas well above her station.
Her reasoning is solid, perhaps listen to the rest then, she gives rare insights of a PM and the forces at play, and very relatable to many other countries as well.
Is this a comic sketch?
why is she getting airtime..ridic
This ain't North Korea 😒 😕 🤧 😐 🙄 😅
I’d like to see a list of the medications Liz Truss is on. Now that would be interesting.
I cannot emphasise this enough.... NOBODY CARES!!!
(I clicked on this video just to leave this comment, and leave)
Lets be honest none of the Truss budget aims were introduced into any manifesto therefore no market tested reaction, therefore to believe any change within the governments fiscal policies without testing market conditions, or testing attitudes to a minor change instead the Truss policy massively changed fiscal direction without this test and is why the market spiked, sure she knew nothing of LDI’s which caused a bigger effect but it’s irrelevant if she had acted differently the leverage positions on the LDI’s would never have been triggered, which is why it is her fault and she is completely responsible. This is not my view it’s the market’s view which is why the market run was initiated.
This interview was utterly bizarre, I can’t even properly process what I just watched.
Head completely lost
If I had a face like Truss's, I'd also have a grudge against the world.
An interview with Liz Truss should start with an abject apology to the Country and her talking some responsibility for the damage she did.
Totally deluded woman
The best thing she ever did was make the Tories totally unelectable
What the f--k is she talking about
Maybe Trump will have her sub in as replacement VP running mate for Vance. Would help cement electoral standing with the delusional base.
Post office my local tesco own it 😂😂
Thank god she lost her seat! Keep her well clear from the UK politics. Even our late Queen was worried about her wealth with Liz's premiership.
Any evidence for this?
@motyaskripkin1102 evidence for Liz's economics competency? Talk to someone who has a mortgage.
Excellent interview - sorry LizTruss sacked Kwasi rather than AndrewBailey.
Sorry so many Twaterati trolling the DT podcast
After 4 years of labour pension attacks ….the people will be ready for a strong traditional grass roots conservative party….sans woke …..
Either that or someone please dig up Oswald Mosley…😂
There are multiple reasons why the English identity is now so compromised in so many different ways. One of them is English people that want to add emphasis to the fact that they're using a French word to say “without.” They are either 'aspirational' working-class or the traditional self-loathing pretentious English middle-class who rage against not being born French and really do not want to be English.
@@kevinengland7444 our whole liberal elite are self loathing….and they hate the white working class
Most of all because we are the only ones that carry the torch for our heritage, history, culture and flag
Even our king has joined their woke ranks ….the white working class and any other citizen that love this nation are on our own
Why would anyone be interested in what that person has to say? Takes no responsibility, of course.
I'm quite interested. She is a human, she was PM, and she has stuff to share. I have the ability to judge what she says and what I think of it.
@@just_another32Absolutely. I can’t understand the vitriol in some of these comments.
Lot of conservative members voted in for her to be our PM in the leadership context still wants to hear from her... some of them may appoint her as their personal financial advisor !
2 thirds doesn't = 100.
Truss has some mental issues. Keeping herself out of the media for a long-time would be wise.
Chubby Andrew Bailey ran rings round Truss. She Didn't see it coming. Should of. ... The pound and gilts had been selling off all of that summer. So the financial markets saw this coming. The idea the BoE wasnt aware is for the birds....

I have some sympathy with her views (surprising perhaps from a Labour Party member!) on the Bank of England , the Treasury and Civil Service - they echo ideas that, from a very different political direction obviously, Tony Benn was putting forward in the late 1970s and 1980s. Those institutions would have tried to block genuine socialist policies if we had a Corbyn/McDonnell government - as very nearly happened in 2017.
she didnt know anythoing..pathetic journalism..cant question anything..my advice is keep talking about biscuits..thats yr level...
