- Tension Springald (Espringal, Rutte) - medieval type of catapult or ballista for throwing large arrows and bolts. Spring Engine from The Book of the Crossbow (Ralph Payne-Gallwey). Really working mini model during the siege of the toy castle.
I have never seen a Springald before and it is absolutely Hilarious to me to that the firing method of this siege weapon, as oppose to the more well known Catapult or Ballista that would lob or launch, the Springald SLAPS the projectile. I enjoyed watching you making this miniature siege equipment and testing it.
it's probably a fictional weapon
this is not a springald, a springald is more like a ballista this is not an actual weapon ever made in history to my knowledge
That is the first time I saw a catapult like that working. I only kew that from books. Realy impressive.
thanks, I will definitely return to this theme
@@NumaVIG give me templates please because i will make this weapon!!!

1356, Bernard Cornwell
I’ve never seen this type of siege weapon before. It’s so fascinating looking
You are the Boss with that pivot!! Great idea as I am just now beginning my assembly of a Catapult. To include the pivot, wasn't something I thought about. Thx.
shame weapons like this get so little representation in games and movies
Agreed. I build them. For Punkin Chunkin, and what I call Sport Catapulting. Check out my channel and our main facebook group. You should build a modern high performance sporting catapult. I can show you how. facebook.com/groups/texastrebuchet/
They are usually represented incorrectly.
Well you should play the new game Assassin's Creed Valhalla then. It's well represented there.
I think they might be more ballista like in nature but there are springalds in aoe 4
They've been represented in age of empires 4 which dropped a few days ago... and is a game that seems to be very historically accurate and seems to get Many minor details right
Brilliant!
Very cool! I saw some engravings of this style of catapult and then tried to find anyone who had built one. This is the only working version I have seen and it seems very effective! I would love to see the power in full scale! Has anyone seen any videos or know of anyone who has built one full size?
I read an article in the Wall Street Journal about 30 years ago, about a bunch of guys who had gotten together and built a few of them, full size.
Also remember one in the television show "Northern Exposure", from the late 80's, where they built one and tossed a piano or something.
Cool!
Probably not meant to be shot like that, the slapping motion reduces energy transfer & increases the chance of it breaking.
Basically the same reason why put the directly bolt in front of the cable with a crossbows & why it could break if you dry fire it.
I.e. put the spear on the arm.
This is exactly how it is meant to be shot.
@@FingerAngle Come on Robert, Ralph Galway Payne as a notorious fraud. We've already discussed this.
@@22ADArtillery Yes, I know he's a fraud, but this is how the concept is meant to operate. I would have said something if I had realized it was one of his fantasies. Always good to see you in threads, sir!
@@FingerAngle NEVER miss the chance to make it public.
@@22ADArtillery tehOGREs' assertion is also true, that "the slapping motion reduces energy transfer & increases the chance of it breaking.
Basically the same reason why put the directly bolt in front of the cable with a crossbows & why it could break if you dry fire it." So he gets a cookie.
Can u share the build plan?
Make the mass arrow launcher springald
Is that the one that looks like a box with wheels? I'm trying to find names for the different types of them, but they all just seem to be called the same name.
Some people said this is not a springald, so what is it? Is it even a historical weapon?
Assassin's Creed Valhalla!
Not a springald.
Tin soldiers Vs Lego toons
Who the hell would historically design a weapon that weakens itself after every shot, think of the cost and money thrown away. Fuck even classical age artillery seems more long lasting design. I don't think this is real or at least common
