ahh i’ve been waiting for this! currently studying in the US and want to share the food i grew up on with them, but it’s been a lot more difficult since i went plant based 😂 love oatly, excited about this collab
Thank you for this! Most Middle Eastern desserts (and desserts in general) are tough for me because I’m super lactose intolerant, but this is inspiring me to try and cook my own anyways. Looks delicious as always
@@Dosadniste2000 Usually just something fruit based or dark chocolate or a lot of baked goods are fine. Butter doesn’t have too much lactose, so there’s pastry and a whole lot of other things too.
I know making oat milk yourself doesn't get you paid, Obi, and well done for getting sponsored: you deserve it! But I never buy oat milk because I discovered this little cheat when I'd run out of milk after the shops had closed: I took a cup of normal porridge oats and mixed them with water. I then left them soaking for a while before pouring the resulting liquid through a strainer. Tadah! Oat milk that tasted just like the bought variety. You'd have to try it yourself to work out how much water you wanted to put in it, as I just use guesswork, but you don't have to make a cloggy paste: the oats should have plenty of room to float around. And the bonus is that the oats are still useable to make porridge, so long as you make it soon after making the oat milk. I suppose you could dry the oats out again if you wanted them for something else.
Nice to see some considerations for the plant based side of things. It always makes me enjoy your recipies more, when you include that. If I had to push a little though, you did mention ‘normal milk’ to refer to cows milk, which purpose was to feed baby cows (calves). It’s cows milk, not ‘normal milk’
This looks fantastic! On the standard bread pudding front if you use hearty breads to make the bread pudding you will end up with a pudding that is not mushy at all. I don't like really mushy bread pudding either but a hearty one is one of my absolute favorites.
What are hearty breads? Would home made challah count? I know the shop bought standard issue white bread goes soggy so easily. I make french toast from leftover challah (in the unlikely event that any actually gets left over!) and it works so well.
@@happydillpickle I'd say challah is not what I'd consider hearty. Stuff that is more firm like baguettes is what I was referring to. If it's firm and chewy before it goes into the custard it is going to retain some of that when cooked.
WHATTT???? I only bothered to watch this in the hopes of it POSSIBLY being veganized....imagine my surprise when you're already doing it! GOSH i love your channel.
Oh my days I'm so happy you're making sweets!!! This is like a bread and butter pudding and I'm sure it's way better!! Basbousa and baklava are my no.1 favourite sweets ever... rhen a chocolate sumatsumat Forever your shows... (halva) Shukran!!!
Bringing back my dad one recipe at a time. Thank you Obi! Thank you so, so much. I'm a croissant fiend so I'm going to have to battle myself not to eat the whole box when I buy them. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also, do you have any suggestions for subs for clotted cream. I don't think I've ever seen that in my local grocery stores.
Cutting up those gorgeous croissants was killing me😫 they looked perfect. Mmm buttery croissant, a piece of dark chocolate and a cup of coffee: perfect dessert right there. 🤤
Good content, thanks Obi and Salma. I only wish that you take your time explaining the recipe and its background, and not follow youtube's wish to make videos less than 5 minutes. Seriously we wait your videos impatiently.
He had explained a few months ago that he has some health issues which make making longer and more complicated videos/recipes difficult but that he tries to make regular shorter videos instead to still get something out.

I have tried a few milk alternatives, and oatly was the most disgusting one. Its unfair to even call it milk or milk subsitute. I ended up thowing the whole carton.
I made this bread pudding recently and added a bit of rose water and orange blossom water. It was delicious.
Excellent!! Thanks for the non-dairy inspiration!
Whack..
Thank you so much. Sorry for the late reply.

I’m thrilled you would even try the plant base options. Great vid! Thanks for sharing.
Hello my lovely friend
It’s so awesome to know that you are from Egyptian background . God bless you and your family
Thank you for telling me about the creamy oat milk . Now I can have whipped cream again.😊
Yeah it was pretty good! I honestly expected it to split, but It worked so well.

most non ME desserts are milks based as well. My god, what do you eat for sweets?

I love bread pudding! This one looks fabulous and super delicious.

Thank you for including a plant based version! (Although croissants contain butter, but still 🙏)
There are plant based croissant recipes
Yes, I think you can still make this by just baking some plant based puffed patty into squares. Same idea really. Hope you try that out

You'll have to buy extra then, the crispy croissant pieces are addictive to snack on
Extra thick cream or mascarpone could be good substitutes for clotted cream
@@ESalma thank you! I went to the store earlier and I'm getting ready to make everything.
This looks amazing! Very similar to the Indian / Pakistani Shahi Tukda (translates to Royal Piece/Bites)
Looks delicious 😋
im curious to see the traditional pastry from scratch if ur ever curious and have the energy :0
Since croissants normally have butter and eggs as far as I know I think I will try it with puff pastry.
Well this looks insanely delicious
Thank you.
Great idea using croissant I will try it
Love your channel. Can you please make keto recipes
I'm taking EVERTHING topping :D Awesome
Good to know! I've honestly been avoiding a lot of the very milky based recipes here, but I'll try them with a substitute instead.
I'd be super curious to measure up the macros of the Oatly version vs dairy. If there's a "healthy" bread pudding out there that would be amazing.
Croissants aren’t usually plant-based, so the veggie version may not be totally veggie.
Traditional croissants have eggs and milk so they are not vegan. But they are vegetarian (no meat).
You are correct, but there are plant based croissants. And plant based puff pastry
Should be veggie, just not vegan because of butter (maybe eggs and milk too?)
@@teamdivine5651 Haha well I guess people with a dairy allergy might care quite a lot 🤣
@@teamdivine5651 That was a very unkind and unwelcome comment
You don't bake it? Just a quick blast under the grill?
great idea. now I just need to find vegan croissants
those oMAlys look good

Haha I know, I had extra though, so I had an amazing croissant filled with scrambled eggs.
I've always made it with puff pastry, there are vegan puff pastry options too. Where's the rose water tho? It's not the same without it 😢
Capirotada!!
Croissant pastry has plenty of dairy in it - so not really a plant-based recipe.
Is it wrong that at first I was confused as to what a “desert game” is?
Almond and coconut work better than pistachio

The story behind this dessert is quite dark
It is, but it's also a food of celebration. We eat it at weddings, and any celebration involving food in Egypt.
Please tell ...
