  • **Backpacking in the White Mountains**
The White Mountains are a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the United States. They are part of the northern Appalachian Mountains and the most rugged mountains in New England. One of the most famous mountains that we will be traveling over is called Mt. Washington. It has the highest, sorry second highest record winds in the world of 231 MPHs.
On this trip I met up with Nick aka The Professor who is attempting to hike the whole Appalachian Trail "flip flop" style. Flip Flop style is where you start in the middle and hike in one direction, then once you completed the section, you travel back to the middle and head the other direction. This provides more of a stable climate to hike in and it avoids the high traffic of others.
Nick / The Professor met a friend on the trail "Evan" / Doctor. These guys have been hiking with each other for about 800 miles and continue to finish the whole trail.
    Day 1:
Started at Liberty Springs Trail head outside of Lincoln.
Hiked to Liberty Springs Campsite for Water for a long ridge walk.
Camped at AMC Garfield Ridge Campsite
    About 10 miles today
    Day 2:
    Started at Garfield Ridge Campsite
Resupplied our water at Galehead Hut (there's bathrooms and food there too)
After Galehead Hut there's plenty of water till you get to camp.
Camped at AMC Ethan Pond Shelter which there's a nice pond there to go swimming (watch out for the leeches)
    About 15 miles today
    Day 3:
    Started at Ethan Pond Shelter
Hiked to Mizpah Spring Hut for water / restrooms (plenty of water on this section). A great spot for a break with a view of a beautiful waterfalls.
Camped near at Lakes of the Clouds Hut. We took a side trail to get off the ridge to camp at. I talked to an AMC information representative and said it's fine as long as you hike belong the Alpine Area.
    About 15 miles today
    Day 4:
Started at Lakes of the Clouds Hut
Went over the famous Mount Washington. It's very cold up there and the shops don't open till 9am. Then we hiked a beautiful long ridge walk to Madison Spring Hut for water / restrooms.
Continued on a ridge walk for a few more miles till we went down to AMC Pinkham Notch Visitors Center. This is where I finished, but Evan and Nick will continue the AT.
    About 14 miles today
Side note: The AMC campsites cost $15 to camp at. The huts are not a resupply, so don't rely on getting much from there. If you stay at a hut it's $160 a person / meals included. We spoke with Hut Staff at Cloud's and the dungeons is closed.
    Thanks for watching,
