    Among your best vids yet! Though (as you say) it's (sometimes) about "throwing money at the problem.."/gear-centric - you (as usual) make a distinction as to WHY gear can (in SOME situations) make a difference. Bravo!

    Throwing money is fun... For a short while 😂 light should arrive tomorrow so I can finally practice basic product shoots. Will be referencing a variety of your videos and Karl Taylor to get a running start. 👍 Thanks for the quality content.

    Ohh that 3rd image! 🔥, it makes me so happy , I would love try with similar style using tulips or poppy's !
    I have a question if you do not mind, I am just starting out in product photography focusing mostly on beauty and skin care products . I currently have a canon 7D markii and good old nifty fifty & some kit lenses
    My question is would you upgrade to a canon 5D mark i or ii or add to my lenses & a sigma 105mm macro or the 24-70mm . ?
    The only reason I would like to change the camera body is due to cropped vs full frame .
    Thank you in advance ☺️

      I’d stick with the 7D ii it’s technologically better than both the 5D1 and 2, which are both much older.
      I would try those images you envision of the tulips and poppies with the equipment you have right now. Use creative thinking to problem solve any issues (like focus stacking, creating flags, using natural light on a sunny day), but make sure you create the final image you initially briefed yourself, only then will you know if a new lens or camera would’ve made the shoot that much easier or harder. People tend to think buying new equipment will help them make better images without ever trying to make those images with what they already have to have the experience.
      In terms of full frame vs crop sensor, funnily a full frame sensor would actually make deep focus product photography minutely harder due to the larger DOF.
      You can see my work at (Ofilaye) all shot on Fuji crop sensors. Though I’m not a product/still life photographer.
      I’m not Scott, but hope this helps.
      Thanks

    I will be photographing museum artefacts for book publishing, I have a 5dsr, canon 50mm f2 macro with the life-size converter. I can not afford the Canon L lens tilt-shift but I have a good deal for a 45mm tilt-shift. Should I buy it and can it do the job?. which other lens should I buy. I have no problem with manual AF. Thank you.

    • @TinHouseStudioUK
      @TinHouseStudioUK  2 года назад

      Depends on the size of the items. I used both the 45 and 90mm non L tilt shift lenses for years, both are great.

    Having subscribed to your chanel, as it is interesting thought provoking detailed with explanations, i enjoy how you bring other subjects in to each video art and much more, do you think it's possible for some one just starting out to do the same things with an Sony rx v compact,.
    I would be interested if someone like yourself could achieve and produce what you do to what level you could go up to.

    How about using focus stacking when you don't have the money to throw at the problem. Can you get a similar result, or does the fact that in a number of your images everything is almost in the same plane of focus means it's not an option in this case?

    • @TinHouseStudioUK
      @TinHouseStudioUK  2 года назад +1

      Yes that can 100% help with increased detail.

    • @fran_flynn
      @fran_flynn 2 года назад +1

      I actually just saw yr other video about the tilt shift lens where you discuss focus stacking also. I'd love that beast of a lens but in the meantime focus stacking, while tedious, definitely has a place...

    Scott, have you ever tried out any of the Nikon D8xx series cameras? I'd be curious on your feelings of how they compare to the 5DSR. Bang for buck, I think they are a good alternative if you are invested in Nikon instead of Canon. D800's are relatively inexpensive these days - $600-800 for the body.

    • @TinHouseStudioUK
      @TinHouseStudioUK  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I have actually and they were fine. I don't like Nikon colour science though and find it harder to grade, but by no means is it a bad camera. Loads of pro photographers still use them today.

    Scott, your bellows, cambo, Mamiya lens is zombie scary. Correct me if I’m wrong it you haven’t been shooting that config all that long. You used to tout the manufacturer tilt-shift lenses. 1. Will those “somewhat” approximate the sharpness you get with your rig? 2. You rent most of your gear on big campaigns. Do rental houses carry your Lens-zilla rig or do you travel that thing?

    • @TinHouseStudioUK
      @TinHouseStudioUK  2 года назад

      Yes you cant totally get as sharp and detailed an image. The only difference is that this has MORE movement options and to further degrees. Actual IQ differences are not noticeable to the human eye.

    White T shirt flatlays are most difficult to keep detailed without washing out the texture or removing lots of creases

    What is the difference between Soft light and Diffused light?

    • @TinHouseStudioUK
      @TinHouseStudioUK  2 года назад

      Softness is relative from the size of the light source to the size of the subject, to then diffuse it you put the light through something that scatters the light. In marketing terms from light brands the two words have become interchangeable. Best advice is to have a play with different modifiers so you can link the words to a visual in your head. Hope that helps

    The excessive post processing in your work is a bit much. By that I mean you take the shots but someone else takes care of post. It's really their work as much as yours.
