  • Witness a pivotal moment in engineering history through this classic footage of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse on November 7, 1940. Ellie Simmons of Great Neck, Long Island, New York, along with many others, requested this incredible piece of history, and here it is. The bridge, hailed as an engineering marvel at its dedication, succumbed to the fierce winds of Puget Sound just six months later. This rare footage, captured by lucky cameramen Harbine Monroe and Barney Elliot, showcases the dramatic undulations and eventual destruction of the bridge, highlighting the unpredictable forces of nature and the lessons learned in structural engineering. The film also captures a daring, yet futile, rescue attempt to save a trapped dog. This video serves not only as a testament to the bridge's tragic fate but also as a reminder of the continuous evolution and learning in the field of engineering.

I could be wrong, but wasn’t there an episode from SpongeBob where they showed this footage of the bridge?

Did this show ever cover the manufacturing of asbestos? If they did then could you show it? I would like to hear what people thought of it before they realized how dangerous it was. Remember. I asked for it

We'll take a look through the archives and see if we can find anything related to that.
