The background of the Nevermore song ("Never Again") refers to the type of my stories that I'm usually told "how can you share something so personal and intimate?".
But that's the whole point, that such melancholic melodies are always based on something very personal, sometimes painful and heartwarming.
It's about how being deeply in love with someone, sometimes I realized that I, sincere and real, would never be reciprocated, because I'm just "not that person" for someone. And being obsessed with someone, I was so not ready to accept defeat that I chose the extreme measure - I put on a mask, molded myself into a "plasticine man", betrayed some of my principles, character traits and ideals.. and all for the sake of being loved in the end.
In the end, nothing ever came of it. Time after time, a bitter realization came to me that all this was wrong and that even if a person became more supportive of me, if he loved me, it would not be real, but a "mask" that I would then have to wear next to him.
As a result, I just looked at myself from the outside at one point, realized what falling in love with someone had brought me to, what I had turned into and who I had become, and felt that there was nothing real about it.. after that, I felt terrible about myself.
And then came sobering up, followed by self-respect, self-love and the only clear thought in my head, "never again." Never again will I betray my principles and ideals for anyone or anything, never again will I try to be someone I am not.
I will never betray myself again.
