Liberia was founded by former African slaves who came from the US. They were in a way americanized. Makes sense the flags being similar. Liberia, the word, has a root from Latin meaning “free”.
The history isn't as wholesome as that unfortunately. It was mostly funded and set up by racists, known as the american colonization society, who, now that africans were no longer slaves, didn't want them in the country anymore, and hence wanted to kick them out back to africa, which became liberia

When you said the Dutch version "sikkel", my thought was, yes, of course, that's exactly what it means. We also say "Sichel" or "Mondsichel" in German. We pronounce it softer in the middle than you do, but otherwise it's very similar. How sobering that the piece of moon we are looking for is called "crescent moon" in English. After all, the sickle is actually a tool for cutting grass. In any case, the German "Sichel" is an ambiguous word. 😆 Thanks also for the tip about the SRP ASMR channel. That sounds quite exciting. By the way, a few days ago the channel WelshASMR82_Maps organized a very similar flag quiz, which was also very relaxing. So if you are interested in this as a flag connoisseur, this is a tip from me to you. ☺ By the way, the only flags I guessed correctly were Turkey, China and Ireland. My grandma was Dutch and she was my first involuntary asmrtist! Not that you remind me of her physically speaking hahaha! Much less now that you matured and have a beard to accompany your master's degree heh heh! Your hand movements triggers and light triggers as well as the mouth sounds are the ones of a pro, super tingly. And your tranquil, calm prosody, intonation of speaking is very soothing. It also gives me tingles as well as inducing sleep after it. 👍🏻✌🏻🤘🏻🇧🇷

being from britain I hadnt heard of the flag of the republic of ireland being referred to as just the flag of ireland, seeing as its not officially recognised by northern ireland. interesting to see how the rest of the world thinks about it, I guess when you havent got 2 irelands on your doorstep you dont often have to think about distinguishing them
