Nice work as always but grey hairs is wisdom stress is pure silver hair like mine 🤣 But I only tinker thanks to you and others I'm learning more but at my age the ability to hold a soldering iron steady enough to not burn everything around is gone 😥
I feel for you brother they need to make gyro for guys like you yo keep that iron steady cause I've heard this from many guys I've spoke to...maybe that could be an invention for someone.
That a lot of work. too bad that tunning cap came un done in shipping. that what damaged the transistors.. I had a few come threw that made me pull my hair out. had a 8 pill come threw years ago. was making almost normal power but the person receiving says sounds like on SSB . distorted. turn the drive way down and it sounds better . went threw tunning splitters/combiners. nothing heating up /un balanced. pulled a transistor ,it was low HFE like 10 . pulled the rest all low but like 8 to 15 HFE. none where leaky. put in new set of RFP 2879. re tuned to them and amp was slamming with swing. it sounded great. the old ones wear DEI ones. what made me thing tunning was near normal power but just did not have the up swing. the box was working fine . and one day it sounded bad. I did have 1 outher DEI box fail like that. but that one had back swing. and combiner heating up. and transistors tested low and leaky on bad side. usually that just smoke a 10 ohm . busy playing with 2 hot water tanks today . fixed 1 replaced the outher. never know what the next day brings . 73's
Never had issue wrapping coax around the combiner or putting them both in the back. Sometimes certain builds strangest things can cause it when all stars align. Why I always test dummy load and out door dummy "LOL" before I ship now days.
I had a car that I was trying to diagnose for random electrical problems. Turned out the dash ground had worked loose. I spent two days chasing my tail and just happened to see a few threads sticking out. Felt stupid.
Indeed I thought it was the capacitive issue like you shared with me but it turned out to be that dang splitter man....just needed to be rebuilt! Crazy something so simple.
I know how you feel man.... at this age I'm trying to make every day count cause man I hate the day I have to say 50 something and I rem saying that when I was 30 of having to say 40 something.

Looks like one of the resistors in the combiner is turning brown.
Prbly just lighting cause they were just out on there before the video 📹 sometimes the lighting will look like that in pictures lol.

You still gotta wire up the bird peak kit for the a/c transformer plug then you won’t need to buy batteries again

Well no the actual brass tuner came off the board meaning it broke away from the solder from the bond to the board.
