Thank you for this tutorial. Game looks and runs absolutely amazing, it's my first time playing and it doesn't feel outdated at all. Have to say method 1 doesn't work anymore, had to do it via lutris with method 2! Thanks!
It's definitely a different era. PC Gaming has been almost exclusively all digital for a very long time now and people have built up massive Steam libraries. That makes picking up a device like the Steam Deck so appealing as I already have a library of hundreds of games on Steam and most of them will work on the Deck off the bat without me having to buy a new copy.
Tbh, I think the PSP Go failed because it was overpriced. I remember paying $250 for it on release and it only came with 16gb internal storage. It was the same as the original PSP except it offered no game cartridge support and cost more.
Psp go failed because psn has only 20-30% games libary in digital. I remember when I want to but pap go, but I coudn't play in GoW Chains Olympus. Only CFW solves this problem. Sony should make all games available digitally for the launch of this device. They killed PSP go him themselves.
Sony realized this when they stopped making portables after Vita. The competition was fierce and Nintendo had the portable gaming industry on a chokehold. Then they also mentioned smartphones taking over the portable gaming industry sooner. They weren't wrong, smartphones were the example of a digital storefront and everybody had access to it. Steam Deck positions itself similarly to a smartphone because everyone has access to Steam, regardless of owning Valve's console. The fact that Sony is now back to making handhelds while focusing on making it play PS5 games means they've already learned their lesson, especially when people always compared their handheld consoles to whether or not it could play the home console games of that era.
Man, the steam deck is such a good unintentional push for games to work on Linux. A game that works on the deck works for everyone else trying to play on Linux.
Sweet!, Great game and great mod. Set this up over the weekend myself. Love how little battery it takes. Never would have thought to make a proton folder based on the mod install. Much easier than making proton on the vanilla game then jamming in the modded game and using proton tricks to make it run.
EDIT: This method doesn't seem to work anymore. I have an updated guide on my channel for anyone that is having issues. For anyone saying the first method doesn't work, you HAVE to change the "Target" of the SH2EEsetup exe file to the SH2pc exe. The installer will even say to do so. I skipped that part and added the games exe separately and it would just show as a white window and never load, saying it crashed last time. After adding the EE setup exe and hitting repair, then just choosing to just reinstall the EE EXE, after its done doing its thing, it will pop open a window that says the installer is running in wine, then at the bottom of that window, it will tell you to change the target file. I then swapped the target in steam to SH2PC.exe, it works perfectly. I did try to re add the setup exe file, then change the target in properties, and it still didn't work for me. If thats the case for you, just use the setup and again, repair ect, THEN swap the target file.

Yeah, no, using method 1, the game boots up after exiting setup. After changing the properties to the other exe and it's directory, it crashes on start up. People in the comments have been asking for an update. Can you tell us a fix at least?
I encountered this issue and don't have a proper fix. It's not tidy as you have to use the trackpad each time you lunch but the game is running fine for me.
Sorry the second method is a bit confusing to me; When you search for the game through Lutris, does it download the 3 CDs and automatically add it to library? and How did you run the base game and EE installation together? does Lutris identify the EE installer in your folder as well and add it to the installation process?
So it will not download the 3 CDs you will need to obtain those on your own. When you run the Lutris script it will setup everything up and run the EE installer. The process is pretty straightforward. Hope that clears things up a bit.

Actually found them, but the installation progress pops wine with the icon but then nothing happens, the EE installer won’t appear and in lutris stays 4 ever loading !!! Help!!! Thanks!
So.. I managed to get it running with option 1... I managed to have it boot again by forcing some resolutions, but it only boots the original game not the EE :(
A preinstalled version is basically how it would look in your programs folder on Windows, it's way easier to use games like that on the Steam deck since you don't have to play around with ISOs. I did the same with the Simpsons hit and run
Thank you so much for this video! When I tun it through Lutris, I mount my disks like normal, but once the Wine window opens to run the installation, it states "No CD/ROM drive found" and then closes, with Lutris saying that SilentHill2/MousePointer.png does not exist and I have no other option then to cancel the install. @@2000stasis I managed to get it working. I misread a step, and once I did it correctly everything worked out fine. Unfortunately I cannot remember exactly which one. I think it was something about not selecting anything when asking where to install. Just be sure to read the directions carefully when a virtual box opens and it goes through the windows install options.
My battery life is 2hr and 35 min when playing is it because my graphics are to high if so what's the recommended for a higher battery life?
I can't open that link for the controller on my steamdeck, it doesnt open anything, just searches the text. When I try and open it on my pc, it opens but the controller seems blank
Need some help, method 1 isn't working.
Do the triggers work? I remember last time they did not work
I’ve done this entire thing to a T and still doesn’t work, I’ve tried other methods and it still refuses to launch. What am I doing wrong?!?! What’s going on?!? I need help please!!!
sometimes having spaces in the game folders name gives it issues. Steam deck issue I read about
@@thezackshack501 that didnt work
I followed your guide months ago using method 2. Still works great but is there any way for steam deck to load directly into the game? I get a virtual desktop with a terminal asking first if i want to load into game or configuration.
what are the issues with 60fps? I'm assuming not performance because it's only using around 6.5 watts here at 30fps
Maybe because its a old game. Idk
Can someone help? In desktop mode a white square appeared then the game crashed. Im using a fully extracted version. In steamOs gaming mode it doesnt launch at all.
Are you using arch to open the game?
Am I crazy or is there no way to leave the save game screen? I was trying everything!
Hi! I cant apply the config controller... dont show the apply button... Thanks for your work
Are you opening through q4 wine?
Can this be done without an sd card?
Hey mate, thanks for the video, I haven t been able to find those fing isos any tip?
Actually found them, but the installation progress pops wine with the icon but then nothing happens, the EE installer won’t appear and in lutris stays 4 ever loading !!! Help!!! Thanks!
So.. I managed to get it running with option 1... But once its install and run one time, I close it and then when I try to open it again, it fails to boot and then the second try an error pops out saying that the las time the game tried to run it had an issue, so it-s going to boot in a video safe mode.... and stays frozen.... I managed to have it boot again by forcing some resolutions, but it only boots the original game not the EE :(
So what now? Lot of people have issue with starting the game after method one. Including me. No one wants to help with it?
Downloaded and now I can’t find the file to swap😂 I did method one
When I go to run the exe it asks me what to open it with, any help?
what does extracted game means? is it the version that was installed on another computer?
A preinstalled version is basically how it would look in your programs folder on Windows, it's way easier to use games like that on the Steam deck since you don't have to play around with ISOs.
I did the same with the Simpsons hit and run
Where do you find the iso files
the game crashes on start up with method 1 no matter what version of proton I use
did you find a fix?
@@boopbruh don't recall finding one no, sorry
no 60 fps on enhanced edition???
Thank you so much for this video! When I tun it through Lutris, I mount my disks like normal, but once the Wine window opens to run the installation, it states "No CD/ROM drive found" and then closes, with Lutris saying that SilentHill2/MousePointer.png does not exist and I have no other option then to cancel the install. Anybody find a workaround? Anyone else have this issue?
did you figure anything out for a fix? running into the same problem
hey just tried this and it fixed it, its worth a try for you. the lutris installation link for the setup.exe is invalid. instead, download the setup.exe directly from the website. continue the process as usual, but after clicking install, when it brings you to the list of files needed and the “download” drop down options, on the first option, change download to select file and select the aforementioned file. this worked flawlessly for me and i hope it works for you as well.
@@joshlloyd7499 I'll try this tonight & let you know! Thank you so much man. Played the enhanced edition a few years ago on PC (first time playing SH2), and it was an instant favorite. One of the best of the best. I really appreciate it.
Does anyone know if this stil works both method with the newest update on silent 2 ee
EE
Anyone want to link me the three disc ROM? Can't find it anywhere...
My abandonware site
The controls don't work though.
I tried this and neither method worked 🤔
Can't save. Anybody know how to fix that?
Fixed. Created a save folder in data
is it working in Spanish?
So ive followed all the steps of the first method. Everything was the same except when finsihing installing it said it changed to wine. Im a noob. it wont start now
It worked via method 2 for me! Thanks
Machete. It’s a kitchen knife.
Literally did everything step by step and it still doesn't work, you gotta be leaving something out.
Thanks for the guide, but the first method doesn't load for me. I may try method 2 but I am hoping for a fix.
Edit: Tried the second method and worked perfectly.
Please do half life 2 mods next
Dosent work. Steam just wont even launch it despite doing everything you told me to do.
Can you do once for silent hill 3
PS2 version?
This works better than emulating the PS2 version.
@@SteelLodge What platform is it if not the PS2 version?
@@MrsBlaileen1 It's an upgraded version of the PC release
@@SteelLodge Oh wow…wasn’t aware SH2 was ever released on PC. It’s not on the Steam store. Only SH: Homecoming is. I’m going to try to emulate SH2 on the PS2 once I get my Steam Deck.
Yup, just a heads up this version is going to look and run a lot better than the emulated PS2 version and give you far superior battery life.
This tutorial is so outdated...
How would you do it?
Good guide but the OG PS2 version also runs at a sweet 60 on SD. Worth checking out.
Lol no it doesn’t. It’s locked to 30fps
or you could just install it on pc then copy it over to the steam deck
Play the PlayStation2 version is way better PCSX2 is way better
Wrong lmao the enhanced edition is way better
Unclear guide
HOW DO YOU BUY THE GAME ON PC PLS SOMEONE PLEASE
It's on my abandonware website (not my as in mine, but the actual site is that lol)
@@AndrewDaniele87 already finished 2 times
@laaps8589 awesome, I just set it up, I played it a bunch of times on ps2, looks amazing with the enhanced edition
It’s not working for me, I change the Target to the sh2pc.exe but it doesn’t work
Put quotation marks "sh2.exe" at the front and back of the entire path once you have selected, this fixed it for me
@@bradleybaker3121 thanks, I’ll try later and lyk
