Today I'm reacting to the newest BuzzFeed unsolved video on joining a witchcraft coven, will it be good or terrible? Who knows (well I do as I'm writing this in the future), but hopefully regardless you will find something useful in this video to progress your magickal journey.

While I hate the perception of witchcraft being just another LA lifestyle trend, I’d rather have people think I’m stupid than evil. I feel like the level of disrespect is the same, but the level of danger and discrimination is lower.
Yeah, I feel like that perception comes from the practice of witchcraft becoming commodified, as well as a rise in "new age spirituality"
I'm in the actual middle of nowhere USA in a place that just got upgraded from township to a town. It's also the bible belt and I've been a practicing witch for 33yrs. I worry about the wrong people finding out and hurting myself, family, or home all of the time. For most of the 33yrs I lived in one of the largest cities in my state and was out of the broom closet from the go. I wasn't worried about anything. 5yrs in the town/ship and I have to hide my books and supplies. I even stash my crystals in long window planters outside on my porch, in plastic if needed, and covered by fake plants so they're not out looking like anything "less than" 100% Christian. I'm disabled and need home health care so I am very careful. I've never been so afraid to own a candle and I know how silly that sounds but w/o knowing what I believe I've had 2 different Drs suggest an exorcism because I have stomach issues and I think they believe me living my life as a disabled person is because demon(s)?!?! I swear I'm on some other timeline where I moved to a modern looking 1600s.

Honestly it's really sweet that content creators are showing the reality of witchcraft, without trying to tint it or make a mockery of it. They seemed open to learning something. I need to go watch the whole thing now, and I'm sure I'd also want to see the whole raw footage!
"I can see the humanity behind what it is that they do" got me tearing up just a little bit. That is impactful to say and hear regarding such a minor community that Wicca/Witchcraft still is today even if it is still on the mainstream. There is still going to be so much prejudice as there is with everything else, but this video was a delight to see. Very informative, very energetic, and I want to visit this shop and just talk with these people.

This is great! Though I consider myself part of the greater Esoteric/Magick so to speak, I am not a witch but a Zen priest. How are you a priest then? You mean you were not actually initiated by any elders into any practices, you are just a priest?
@@operationlivefree4536 Not quite sure what you mean to be honest, maybe it's the language barrier as I'm Swedish. But I was ordained as a Zen Buddhist Priest by the abbot of my order in Sweden where I live, and I was authorized as a Dharma Teacher by him as well as by two abbots from separate monasteries/templea on Taiwan. So again, not quite sure what you are getting at, friend, but I would love for you to elaborate on it so that I can provide a proper answer :)
i think people cannot define a witch or witchcraft specifically as each witch has their own practice..which is unique to them, i feel it is intention energy manipulation , and respect , its also hard study for years.
I really love that they seem truly interested in what they are learning and are not making fun of anyone like I have seen from many other interviews with other witches. Great video as always, I loved hearing your input 💫

A word on the title warlock.
There is now overwhelming etymological evidence that the word derives from an old English word for oathbreaker, but the oath breaking was that directed towards the church (ie, breaking one’s baptismal vow to God/Christ) and hence described a practitioner of Magic/witchcraft.
The word also has Northern European origins referring to an actual magical practitioner.

@@thesoursquids6800 BOOKS. Books are the beginners life and blood. Witchcraft is just as much about researching, expanding knowledge, learning from others just as much as it is spellcasting. Study, read books, research. There are tons of coven websites online with reading lists, or occult shops near you who might sell helpful books. Tons of youtube channels from witches that can recommend books to read as well. But yeah, books. Lots and lots of reading will help you.

I have to say, as nice as it is that witchcraft is becoming more accessible to more people, I do hate that it has become so commercialized it’s associated with trendy, boogie LA hipsters, because that’s so the opposite of what witchcraft stands for. I feel like a lot of people who are drawn towards a spiritual path so so because they are often outcasts in society and use witchcraft as a way of rebellion or to cope with their struggles. It’s about finding power within yourself and communing with nature. There’s nothing “LA” or “boogie” about it in my opinion.
The energy surrounding that coven was so powerful, oh my gods. I love the open mindedness of these guys. It makes everything so much more meaningful and hopefully influences more people to learn about what witchcraft actually is. My cousin is Wiccan, he's 24, and I remember when I was younger he used to be teased by his brother and we all laughed at him. He helped dispel my early ideas of the craft before I even began practicing, and now he's a great source of info for Wiccan beliefs. Love the video Hearth

Very true. People watch too many movies. Warlock by definition means oathbreaker or betrayer so being called one is pretty disrespectful. And wizard is just goofy as hell sounding lol I'd never call myself that even if it were legit

I've never even seen their "unsolved" channel, but I have seen small clips here/there of their first one...This was AMAZING for me!! Personally, I honestly had the same reaction going into this, I was almost twinning them, had an open mind, but wanting to learn more from the people that practice and do the work, rather than just. second hand/false stories, or through researching. I need videos like this to keep myself motivate while doing research, and to have a nice, casual break along with still staying on the topic at hand.

Not to long ago, I haven't been a in fact, maybe a little over 2 months, or maybe it's been 3, I started in the beginning of the summer and I already love i!! In fact, this video in particular, yours, and the Buzzfeed one, made me even more comfortable and welcomed into the group. also I love the bloopers at the end. My favorite was the chuckle of when you mentioned "it's like your trying to not burst into laughter at math class." because I had this issue often, and not even with a group of friends, I was always very anti social, but laughing at people whether they were trying to be funny or not. I am in the process going through your react videos, and I really am enjoying them. As a person who isn't a witch (but is often confused as one), it's such a huge help to watch your explanations. So, fear not about your talking :-)
The only thing I dislike is that they talk about curses in a very humorous way, while they really are a lot of work. To me that gives the reinforcement to people outside the community that practitioners go around cursing Willy nilly. I know that’s not how it’s meant to be seen, that’s just how it came

I would love to see a video on magical tradition in the British Isles, especially in England itself. I'm a British witch as well and I've been looking into arthurian legend recently as well as anglo-saxon paganism and anchient bronze age practices. Its really hard to find stuff tbh so I would love to see your insights
Ya know, I kinda respect the honesty with this video. In the car, they explicitly asked what misconceptions they think that they likely have wrong with witchcraft. They were honest about it probably based on the people that they have seen out and about.
I actually have a hard time referring to myself as a Witch. It most likely hast to do with my ancestry/ past lives. I refer to myself as a Healer. ( As quite a few of us are.)Just not in video games. Healing is not my thing in the gamer world. LMFAO And you are so right! I have definitely been hearing more people referring to themselves as Warlocks over the years. I'm down with it being reclaimed. But, just as you said... it depends on the person. Because it could mean different things to them personally. This video was soooo good as well, by the way. I agree with you as well. I myself am quite impressed and would love to see that video uncut. I also feel you should most definitely do your British Isles history!
Magic travels the path of least resistance. For myself at least -Fate is merely what comes to be despite decisions made, divination can tap into patterns and magick can allow us to alter what can be altered but it "changes" the blueprint so to speak...for lack of another analogy... It does shock me a bit that this working (spell) was done on video and shared that way.
wow you gave a new found respect for Buzzfeed, which is kind of funny in a way.
I feel like their stereotype in the beginning was okay. It went from one extreme to another so maybe the next paradigm shift will be more balanced. The only thing that worries me about the LA view is the tie to materialism. Too many witches think they need the right amount of stuff to be valid (which isn’t true). Also, buzzfeed tends to run their production on tight deadlines so that probably impacted the amount of research done.
I am happy with the care and authenticity shown though. That doesn’t always happen. A lot of influencers tend to go into it like it’s a joke/silly so this shift in the other direction was good.
I'm not sure that it's a step in the right direction, but it is definitely progress. They seem to be conflating manifestation with witchcraft, maybe that's nitpicking on my part, but it is what it is. I practice Southern Conjure, and I'm not sure it's good to conflate that practice with "crystals, juicing, LA witches" or however it was put.

Wonderful video, Hearth! I also went and watched the original Buzzfeed vid and was surprised at how much I liked it, and watched it the whole way through (not something I can usually do with those types of videos). I love how they handled the making of their video, I hope they continue to make videos with that same level of receptiveness and respect and genuine willingness to learn about other types of people, cultures and practices.

I enjoyed the impassioned chant work. I did find it helpful to get people into trance, and simply build energy without those differing egos, and personalities getting in the way. I really enjoyed the way these guys approached the subject. I very much appreciate the tact, and compassion with which they led the video, and that they let go of control when the control needed to switch to someone else. You rarely see that anymore.

It's so funny, I've been feeling so called to learn more about knot magic, and ~*something*~ told me to click on this video having no idea that would be one of the main topics. I loved this video too and I loved your reactions to it! You added so much useful info to what was covered in the video. You mentioned people's robes catching on fire during a ritual.
This goes for everyone and I cannot stress this enough: if you are going to use fire in a ritual, make sure that your clothes, robe, cloak, or whatever you're wearing is a 100% natural textile like cotton, wool, silk, linen, or leather. If you're wearing 100% cotton and it catches fire, the worst thing that will happen is it will burn the surface of your skin. If you're wearing a synthetic material like polyester, even if it's only 5% polyester and the rest is cotton, there is a real risk that the material will burn INTO your skin and you'll have to get skin graphs. On top of this, natural fibres don't tend to catch fire very quickly or easily while synthetic fibres tend to catch fire straight away.
There's nothing wrong with wearing ritual clothes made out of polyester, I have a cloak made from black velvet which I'm almost certain is mostly polyester, just be extremely careful if you choose to wear synthetics while using fire (I personally wouldn't wear synthetics at all while working with fire and I'd advise others not to). Of course, everyone should be extremely careful when using fire regardless of what you're wearing, just be extra careful if you choose to wear something made out of synthetic material because, if you wear a natural material instead, it can be the difference between holding a burn under cold running water for an hour and being fine after that or needing to rush to the hospital and getting skin graphs if something goes wrong.

I've recently seen Suspira for the first time! It was pretty alright; I'm glad that movie showed a kinetic point of view to things. I mostly loved the location(s), and that sort of, 'isolated life' pov, if that makes sense.
Even though I live in a city, I often am alone and don't interact with people, so it has this vibe that I can't explain. I guess it's like being an introvert? Lol which I resonate with, but am so different to the people who I actually know.

Yes, just like how as we strive to be more inclusive and add letters to the Alphabet Mafia, many of us choose to simply identify as "queer" and I call us the queer community. Queer means surprising, different, and what they hurled at us as an insult, I am quite proud of now! I am a queer person. I also claim Witch for many of the same reasons, for the people who were called "witch" like it was a bad thing! I feel it is my duty to those who come before me to claim the labels gay, queer, and witch, as well as "pagan" because just uttering it makes people shift uncomfortably, which I am happy to cause! That said, I went to the occult museum in Ohio, originally Rhode Island. So there were some Gardner items and I enjoyed learning about how he and Ray Bucknam paved the way for so many of us, even though I really hate the heteronormativity pushed in Wicca. I know many queer folk are wiccan but I find letting one man make rules for my pagan witchcraft practice just doesn't sit right with this flaming homosexual🤷♀️never let one man tell you how to practice! No matter your gender identity. Spiritual practice varies from one house to the next, don't let one man dictate the exact position of an item on your altar 😓🙄FFS but Gardner was an interesting man and I did enjoy learning about him. I prefer Bucknam though, who was committed to making magical practice available for all. I'm going to buy his book one day but he seemed like a pure soul, unlike Gardner with his very heterosexual wicca. The whole God and goddess thing, nah. I work with female deities but I have had experiences with male entities, I do however not work with them. So wicca pushing this God and goddess idea, a little too "two by two" and definitely has too many Arc vibes for me.
Also. .... I could tell you some STORIES about chain reactions from spells I did, but they were worth it. I agree, mundane is always the first option because honestly the consequences from my biggest spell ever is still with me 3 years later 🙃 that cost was high but I knew it would be. Take care, Hearth! You're my favorite. Thank you for what you said about how you might not be born into it, I do feel like due to trauma or maybe I'm not born into it, I do struggle with a lot of progression. Sometimes I lack confidence so since I struggle on the little things sometimes, I feel like a fake. Your words put me at ease because for me, witchcraft is a way of life.

I find their views incredibly interesting. They are right about many times people just follow the path of least resistance & that path is most obvious. Witchcraft is quite a handy tool to twirk & tweak those results on a personal level IF you put the work in.

I think that witchcraft is such a wide variety of spirituality. Some people practice systematic spirituality and some practice based on their own belief. I personally take my witchcraft from many belief system
I’m definitely not opposed to negative workings, I just look at whether I want to bother putting my energy into it.

I love these reaction videos. I do practice witchcraft myself and as a guy it feels odd sometimes especially because I’m here in the midwestern United States witchcraft is not that common. I’m actually just learning and don’t yet feel comfortable in my grounding so I don’t even do magic like this. Any good books for someone who doesn’t use the craft religiously who is a beginner?

As a Mage (a term meaning one who studies the nature of magic itself) who practices a, now largely forgotten, form of Christian magic. People often forget that even in the bible is a collection of many styles of magic. Hell I even get into a bit of necromancy and blood magic from time to time. I am always open to discussion on the subject lol.
