Slaughter songs are written in Russian and English, as far as I know. Great reaction! ❤❤❤
He sings it in both languages, but depends on which language would sound better during which part of the song
@@jamesgreer9366yep
Metal growls can be seen as just another instrument. Even if you do not know the lyrics or if they are in a different language, you can still jam.
I struggle understand meaning behind words in general, so no matter what I've always just seen the vocals as another instrument, even in English, the lyrics mean nothing to me usually, I enjoy a song if it sounds cohesive
Baba yaga is a kind of witch from Slavic mythology
John Wick is the baba yaga, haha
Baba Yaga is the witch that eats little children that misbehave. She lives and travels in a cabin on two giant chicken legs.
@@GymH2Oxy Baba Yaga, in Slavic folklore, is an ogress who steals, cooks, and eats her victims, usually children.
So, a kind of boogy man of sorts. That is why John Wick was referred to Baba Yaga, because John was a scrary as hell and he was coming after the guys son.
it's called a Boogyman in English, i think?
@@robot_boy Sorta. In Slavic folklore, the Baba Yaga is an ogress who steals, cooks, and eats her victims. The story is told to children, usually to make them behave, kind of a "Be good or the Baba Yaga will come and get you."
The story of Hansel and Grettle is based off her, though it is a cleaned up version of her with a less gory alternative to eating children
What helped me get into Lorna Shore is watching a few of their videos/songs reacted to by reactors that know metal. I’d recommend Nik Nocturnal and Tank the Tech specifically.
Also, watch any of the videos/interviews their lead singer, Will Ramos, has done with either Nik Nocturnal and/or Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice (RUclips).
Will is a genuine dude and knowing the artist(s) behind the music along with help from reactors that live and breathe metal music pushed me over the edge into bands like Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail. Now they’re some of my absolute favorites!
Was gonna reply the same about Will and Elizabeth. They're adorable friends and really learning vocals things from each other. Really nice to see
@@Ranesbane absolutely!
It's part Russian, part English lyrics
The more you listen to heavy vocals and certain vocalists the more you will understand. Suicide silence is pretty understandable after you listen to a few songs IMO. Disengage is definitely worth a listen
Also Teddy the real question, Are you really still a rap fan? Or are you just a metal head now :)
I've had to ask myself the same question a few times 🤣🤣
*SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL songs are co-written by Alex Terrible [ the vocalist / originally Russian, lives now in Florida ] and Jack Simmons [ the LeadGuitarist / he's from the U.K., they're the masterminds.]* 🔥😈🔥🎵🎸🥁🎸💿🔊🔥
Conflict is a wicked song to react to. Some of Alex's solo stuff is amazing too. He has his own lyrical version of Doom's BFG division. Insane voice
The name 'baba yaga' relates to something akin to the boogeyman in Slavic folklore, but you may have also seen it more recently referenced in the film John Wick ("he's the one you send to kill the fucking boogeyman")
This song is absolute fire and this was a solid reaction as always - glad you enjoyed them.
Also to point out, from the beginning of your metal journey where you weren't sure on the terminology or the instruments etc, not only did you correctly just reel off the specific song structures used in metal music (including breakdowns), you also picked up on the Slipknot influence in this song. Nice one.
Don’t know which Lorna video you watched, but if you haven’t I’d highly recommend the Pain Remains trilogy. As someone who appreciates the lyrics in music, they’re amazing - I don’t typically like deathcore but those songs got me. Have the lyrics up as you watch the official music video (and make sure it’s that version).
I can highly recommend "We got the moves" from Electric Callboy. Awesome song with almost the best vibe you will ever get from a song.
You will probably never listen to a better song. An absolute summer beast
really hope he goes down the EC rabbit hole
Completely agree!! Please do that!
Aw bro, imagine his reactions to EC!! 😂😂😂
@@richburnsred He did one back then... was it Hypa Hypa?... and did not like it. I am also still hoping for him to retry WGTM or one of the serious tracks.
Can’t recommend EC enough!!
Also, do look into more Lorna, I wasnt into it the first time i heard them and now they are one of my favorite bands, and Will Ramos is the most down to earth friendly person, which you would never expect by his crazy heavy vocals, give them a chance! Pain Remains trilogy is beautiful and emotional while insanely heavy!
slaughter to prevail are heavily influenced by slipknot and you can hear it in their songs :) they also met Corey Taylor IRL and he's a fan of them :D
when it comes to super heavy bands like lorna shore, the screaming becomes more of an instrument, the mix of the vocals can feel a little off but that’s done on purpose since the voice is meant to add texture rather than for you to hear the lyrics, but once you read the lyrics, it’s almost poetic what they write !! after a read thru of the lyrics you’ll be able to find your way easier thru the song, and it even becomes easier to understand what less heavy bands are saying while they scream!
Bro, I love your reactions and I highly recommend bringing up the lyrics so you can train your ear to hear the words in that style of harsh vocals because every artist is slightly different. I still pull up the lyrics because these metal artist can write.
If you decide to go deeper into deathcore, you should check out bands like “Darko US”, “Brand of Sacrifice”,“Shadow of Intent” (imo the best deathcore band around), the new “Disembodied Tyrant x Synestia” EP, and if you wanna get EXTREMELY violent and grimy “To The Grave”
Ayyeeee you did it
Lorna shore tho?
@@thediamndjvck Lorna is cool, Pain Remains was very good they just aren’t my personal favorite. He had also mentioned he wasn’t super into the one Lorna track that he’d heard
ohh the synestia EP for sure!
@@thediamndjvck I like Pain Remains and I’d fucking kill to see a rendition where Ronnie does clean vocals with Will doing the harsh vocals. That song is a masterpiece. A Deathcore ballad.
OMGGGGGGGGGG i had been waiting for this!! my Fav band Slaughter To Prevail
Clicked on this so fast! Love slaughter to prevail
I felt the same when I first heard it. Absolutely incredible. I saw slaughter live because of this song I’m a huge fan and they was amazing! Soooo sick!
Gotta do Bratva. You will love the groove
Oh boy...
Didn't think we would hit these spheres so early.
What a journey it has been!
🤘
Greetings from Germany!♥
Will Ramos (Lorna Shore) has a video with Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice on her channel teaching her how to do the growls/gutterals
LORNA SHORE - PAIN REMAINS TRILOGY WITH SUBTITLES!!!!!!!
I have loved this song since it came out! Ppl make fun of Alex cleans...I love them!! He has his own RUclips channel as well doing covers!
Slaughter to Prevail is basically heavy modern Slipknot. They acknowledge that fact themselves so don't hate
Slaughter to Prevail songs are usually a good mix of russian and english, to answer that. And if you do listen to more Lorna Shore, and more metal in general, I highly recommend having the lyrics up while you listen, or else read them beforehand, because I completely get not being able to understand heavy vocalists too well, lmao. The vocals in this style of music or meant to be a compliment to the music, like another instrument. The more you listen to it, the more you'll be able to understand (tho sometimes, the vocalist is just trying to sound as gnarly as possible lol). The music is kinda the centerpiece of this style, so the understandability of the lyrics is kinda secondary, tho the lyrics themselves are not.
Go for ghost of perdition by Opeth, it will not let you down!!!!
I haven't listened to Opeth in yrs. Thanks for the flask back 15yrs
You should watch slaughter to prevail - VIKING brow
yooooooooooo 🔥
Mainstream Baba Yaga is probably John Wick, but it’s a mythical figure
Very excited you’re on STP!
While here, saw Electric Callboy recommendations. Have you not done them yet?!
In regards to not understanding the lyrics, usually if I can't understand them I perceive them basically as scat singing until I look up the lyrics. The voice is just another instrument and without the sound of the voice you wouldn't hear the words being spoken.
Alex added vocals to 2 songs from the Doom games. They are og intrumentals but with his growls man it hits different.
Alex posted a clip to his insta the other day of him playing/razzing up a bear
Fun thing about Deathcore is that vocals are often considered instruments to make the listener uneasy.
You probably remember it from john wick, it's what the Russians call him "the boogie man"
alex has had his mic break mid show but he sounded just as loud n perfect without it even the growls
Finally yasss. Those thumbnails look promising 😂❤❤
Саша, Санечка, ты ювелир! ))
I was like you when I first listened to S2P, I never listened to death metal or any metal before these came along and now I'm hooked, can sit and listen to death metal all day long now and funnily enough, it helps with the thoughts that race through my head constantly, it silences them so it's been very therapeutic. Alex Terrible's Solo stuff is also a great listen too!
Yes! It seems so alien to many, but I fall asleep listening to things like this because it helps calm and relax my mind
I'm in a similar place with the lyrics, agreed. It's undoubtedly amazing range. Alex Terrible is cool AF too I love his interviews... Just the most gentle seeming person... Complete contrast to music
I'm pretty sure theres video of him play fighting with this bear
This IS that video or the same footage at least 😂 but yeah there is a vid of someone filming them filming this vid
i just came from the Ronald Live Reaction,,,and you my Guy are goin the Eyra mile! 2 more video! Fook yeah Feel hugged brother love from Germany! And i know that feeling of wanting an Bear Hug..xD
Bears feel like you could be their best friend or worst enemy
This is my fav
Awesome reaction as always. You're really adapt at breaking songs down into their base elements. With harsh vocals that are hard to understand, I think of them more as another instrument. Since your a Linkin Park fan you should checkout Alex's cover of "Given Up" strait 🔥
Good for you to be honest about lyrics, in deathcore stuff it mostly doesn't really matter. It's more about drive, brutality, breakdowns, blastbits, fansy riffage, fucking you up in general.
Baba Yaga is a witch from slavic mythology, she's always cunning, gnarly, has a long ass humped nose and a big ass cauldron. And a house on chicken legs. Although she's not always evil in all the tales and legends, she was used to scare little kids. Well, Alex literally says "Baba Yaga is coming for you, you better run, run, RUNRUN" sooo lyrics here have most of a complementary factor.
Most of their songs are just raging emotional outbursts. But they often make a solid point in their lyrics while going this hard. Like they did in Viking, 1984, Bratva etc.
“Is this in a different language?” The Made in Russia vest might be a give away
Its a real joy to see u enjoying metal ....... love it Love It LOVE IT 🥰 🤘🏼🖤🤘🏼
First time listen for me too wow gotta check out more from these guys!
Bro honestly alex is actually dooing all those things even with the bear 😂 its mad, i love the guy his insta is amazing to follow, he knows a guy with a bear he's been visiting since it was a pup they know each other well its epic and wholesome af too 😂
glad to see you here, the more you listen to these styles its easier to understand your ear just sorta adapts, i found it hard at first but i can hear alex clear now, well except the russian haha
You do need to check out alex's cover of lorna shores pain remains 1 its amazing even will ramos (lornas vocalist) commented he crushed it 🤘🏻🤘🏻
You gotta listen to "Riptide" by Will Ramos (Lorna Shore Vocalist) and I cant remeber the other dude's name. But it's got some more hiphop and lofi stuff thats really cool mixed in with some harsh vocals (that you can somewhat understand). Def a must listen.
@4:15 search 'baldur's gate bear" to see what teddy wants......
You nailed it right away. They are inspired by slipknot
Awesome 😎
You have come a long way in your metal/rock journey!!!
The behind the scenes of this is great. The bear is hilarious
Boooout time you checked out slaughter!!!!!! LOOOOOVE THIS!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Getting into the REALLY growly vocals is something that takes time, as someone who also focuses on lyrics what got me through it is just repetition, if you can think of the voice as just another instrument you can learn the melody and tonality and enjoy that aspect and then with time as you listen to more you start picking up on the way words are formed within that and how it's different from normal singing and start understanding the words. It also really helps to just have lyric videos!
Lorna Shore's lyrics are incredible once you can combine what is being said with the force and FEELING of how it's said.
You definitely need to do Conflict. So good!
Alex literally wrestles bears, probably where he got his scar
Best way I can say with vocals you don’t understand which is what I do. I look at it like an instrument. The vocals as an instrument sound amazing. Not for lyric purposes.
You have to do electric callboy this summer
Took my son to see them and we busted our way to the front of this packed hole in the wall where they played. I claim I was in a mosh pit and he disagrees. This was one of my favorite shows I’ve been to with my kid. He got me into them so I like to see your reaction. Reminds me of mine. They are 🔥🔥
STP and FIR are my favorite bands so I'm so happy right now 💜
Saw Landmvrks for the third time yesterday, absolutely amazing as always. So once again here to ask for some Landmvrks reactions. Lost in a Wave, Self Made Black Hole and Creature 👌🏻🤘🏻 keep smashing it
They are on my list of must see bands. I feel like Teddy might like death by them, as well.
On my list and hopefully seeing them in October with Beartooth and Polaris. Landmvrks got me through a very messy marriage breakup. They slap hard yet so meaningful
@@chrisfields5789 ill be at the Beartooth gig in October. Can't wait 3 of my fave bands.
@manuhorgan non of my circle of friends are fans sadly. I'm flying solo. Possibly Leeds or Manchester depending on travel etc . Plus finding a babysitter as the mum is working those dates 🤣🤣
Slaughter to prevail is a russian band. And they sing in two languages (Russian and english)
React to Imminence, screaming with violin will melt your heart
That is his pet bear!
🥰🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Literally the most terrifying creature on the planet. And the bear)
If you want a very intense and very technical Metal, please react to Archspire - Drone Corpse Aviator
For some it helps to view these type of vocals as another percusion instrument. listen to the cadence and how it interacts with the instruments not necessarily what is being said
One thing to keep in mind with these type of vocals is that often the vocals are there primarily as another instrument, with the lyrics often somewhat irrelevant.
Now that you have finally reached the heavier stuff. Im going to start recommending darko evolving :)
starting with the Patreon poll, I see you! You got there EARLY 👏😂
Who would have thought when you started listening to metal and recording your reactions that you would actually get into it! So proud of you haha
Baba Yaga from John Wick! It’s like the boogie man is Russian. Also, Alex actually wrestled the bear. Lots of videos. And he revisited the bear years later and wrested with him again. And the bear was a couple hundred pounds bigger!! He’s a madman.
Aleksandr Shikolai (a.k.a. Alex Terrible) is one of the best growler I have ever heard. And yes, they are Russian. Accept the guitarist Jack Simmons. He is British.
Metal growls take a trained ear imo. Started listening to metal young and i would say for the 1st year of listening to various bands i was lost. The more you hear the easier it makes it to pick out. From a lyricists standpoint some metal bands lyrics are more poetic than anything youll ever hear. Its just getting over the hump.
Alex Terrible does actually wrestle with brown bears
I have the same issues with being able to understand lyrics my man. Love a good growl, but I got to be able to make out the words!
Gotta do demolisher next m8
Alex: I need a voice.
Devil: What voice?
Alex: Yes😈
Definitely check out lost in the dark by left to suffer and pale face Swiss, it’s got similar energy imo, also the plot in you don’t look away is insane, the video is a lot tho so be warned if you check that one out
came to say you should check out Nightwish (ghost love score Live can be a good start)
Teddy, think of the lyrics you can't hear as just another instrument. Eventually your ears will tune to it and you'll start heading the words.
❤❤❤❤❤ teddy. You absolute legend my friend :) please add slaughters "1984" to your watch later and alex terribles "livin la vida loca "
He does his songs in russian and some english. For some contex, he fights bears and cut a scar into his face
I get what you said about Lorna, it was too much at first but I can tone out vocal as one of the instruments and enjoy the song. After few listens I start to even catch some lyrics, but after reading them first 😂. Try with one or two more songs to see but don't feel bad if in the end it's not for you. You can't vibe with everything
PLEASE DO DEMOLISHER!!!!!!!!!
Quite awhile ago I made a request on Patron for Paleface Swiss and seeing you enjoy some music on the heavier side, and knowing how much you enjoy Slipknot, I stand by my past recommendation of Paleface Swiss
He actually has a pet bear, that might be it in this video. He wrestles with it and stuff, man is FEARLESS. He’s opposite of bear; bear looks like lil cutie but is scary and Alex looks scary but is lil sweetie 🤷🏽♀️
Btw, the bear is trained
Teddy it might be an idea to maybe print the lyrics out on a sheet of paoer for heavier music if your having trouble understanding.
I think I heard that Alex the Terrible wrestles bears. Not 100% sure though
I love his Doom Slayer song
Should do Demolisher and Bone Breaker by STP next 🤘
Bro... If you want to check more Deathcore.... Check out Whitechapel and the song When a Demon Defiles a Witch..... 🤘🤘
I Wonder; are you open to more non-English songs/bands? I have one in mind that would potentially be up your alley
If you want a good HEAVY song with powerful lyrics. Listen/read their song 1984. Its about the Russian, Ukraine war.
Sounds like slipknot to me
