I struggle understand meaning behind words in general, so no matter what I've always just seen the vocals as another instrument, even in English, the lyrics mean nothing to me usually, I enjoy a song if it sounds cohesive

@@robot_boy Sorta. In Slavic folklore, the Baba Yaga is an ogress who steals, cooks, and eats her victims. The story is told to children, usually to make them behave, kind of a "Be good or the Baba Yaga will come and get you."

What helped me get into Lorna Shore is watching a few of their videos/songs reacted to by reactors that know metal. I’d recommend Nik Nocturnal and Tank the Tech specifically.
Also, watch any of the videos/interviews their lead singer, Will Ramos, has done with either Nik Nocturnal and/or Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice (RUclips).
Will is a genuine dude and knowing the artist(s) behind the music along with help from reactors that live and breathe metal music pushed me over the edge into bands like Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail. Now they’re some of my absolute favorites!

The name 'baba yaga' relates to something akin to the boogeyman in Slavic folklore, but you may have also seen it more recently referenced in the film John Wick ("he's the one you send to kill the fucking boogeyman")
This song is absolute fire and this was a solid reaction as always - glad you enjoyed them.
Also to point out, from the beginning of your metal journey where you weren't sure on the terminology or the instruments etc, not only did you correctly just reel off the specific song structures used in metal music (including breakdowns), you also picked up on the Slipknot influence in this song. Nice one.

when it comes to super heavy bands like lorna shore, the screaming becomes more of an instrument, the mix of the vocals can feel a little off but that’s done on purpose since the voice is meant to add texture rather than for you to hear the lyrics, but once you read the lyrics, it’s almost poetic what they write !! after a read thru of the lyrics you’ll be able to find your way easier thru the song, and it even becomes easier to understand what less heavy bands are saying while they scream!

  • @thatguy_5240
    @thatguy_5240 20 дней назад +2

Slaughter to Prevail songs are usually a good mix of russian and english, to answer that. And if you do listen to more Lorna Shore, and more metal in general, I highly recommend having the lyrics up while you listen, or else read them beforehand, because I completely get not being able to understand heavy vocalists too well, lmao. The vocals in this style of music or meant to be a compliment to the music, like another instrument. The more you listen to it, the more you'll be able to understand (tho sometimes, the vocalist is just trying to sound as gnarly as possible lol). The music is kinda the centerpiece of this style, so the understandability of the lyrics is kinda secondary, tho the lyrics themselves are not.

Good for you to be honest about lyrics, in deathcore stuff it mostly doesn't really matter. It's more about drive, brutality, breakdowns, blastbits, fansy riffage, fucking you up in general.
Baba Yaga is a witch from slavic mythology, she's always cunning, gnarly, has a long ass humped nose and a big ass cauldron. And a house on chicken legs. Although she's not always evil in all the tales and legends, she was used to scare little kids. Well, Alex literally says "Baba Yaga is coming for you, you better run, run, RUNRUN" sooo lyrics here have most of a complementary factor.
Most of their songs are just raging emotional outbursts. But they often make a solid point in their lyrics while going this hard. Like they did in Viking, 1984, Bratva etc.

Getting into the REALLY growly vocals is something that takes time, as someone who also focuses on lyrics what got me through it is just repetition, if you can think of the voice as just another instrument you can learn the melody and tonality and enjoy that aspect and then with time as you listen to more you start picking up on the way words are formed within that and how it's different from normal singing and start understanding the words. It also really helps to just have lyric videos!

Teddy, think of the lyrics you can't hear as just another instrument. Eventually your ears will tune to it and you'll start heading the words.

He does his songs in russian and some english. For some contex, he fights bears and cut a scar into his face

I get what you said about Lorna, it was too much at first but I can tone out vocal as one of the instruments and enjoy the song. After few listens I start to even catch some lyrics, but after reading them first 😂. Try with one or two more songs to see but don't feel bad if in the end it's not for you. You can't vibe with everything

Quite awhile ago I made a request on Patron for Paleface Swiss and seeing you enjoy some music on the heavier side, and knowing how much you enjoy Slipknot, I stand by my past recommendation of Paleface Swiss

He actually has a pet bear, that might be it in this video. He wrestles with it and stuff, man is FEARLESS. He’s opposite of bear; bear looks like lil cutie but is scary and Alex looks scary but is lil sweetie 🤷🏽‍♀️

Teddy it might be an idea to maybe print the lyrics out on a sheet of paoer for heavier music if your having trouble understanding.

If you want a good HEAVY song with powerful lyrics. Listen/read their song 1984. Its about the Russian, Ukraine war.
