Sébastien de Brossard (1655-1730) was a French composer, music teacher, collector and music writer. He worked as chaplain and kapellmeister at the Strasbourg cathedral, then in Paris, where he did not get the desired position at the Sainte-Chapelle, and then in Meaux as music director at the cathedral there. In 1724 he bequeathed his library to Louis XV in exchange for a pension. Today it forms the basis of the Fonds de musique ancienne of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. - Brossard composed numerous motets (grands motets and petits motets), cantatas, oratorios, funeral music, arias (airs). His instrumental compositions include violin sonatas, trio sonatas and orchestral works. As a writer, he wrote a volume each of French and Italian poetry, as well as liturgical texts. (wikipedia.org)
