"Noise is classified as a health issue."
    For good reason.
I was sitting at a light some years back and in a lit hearted mood. Some guy pulled up behind me with his radio cranked up and I literally felt the bass vibrate my heart. My mood instantly soured to the point that I wanted to go back there with a gun and put several projectiles in the radio.
If music or other noise is above a certain DB in a room, it automatically damages your hearing. And you won't notice that your hearing has been damaged until subsequent damage has occurred over years of repeated excessive DB offenses.
In a multi story apartment building, any banging on the floor above, converts the room beneath the banging into a bass drum and all that pressure hits the occupants in the ears. It's both painful and annoying so if you are a heavy walker, it's time to learn to walk softly on the balls of your feet and be as quite as a cat.
If you're cruising down the road with your radio cranked and police and fire come by and you don't hear the siren because your radio is cranked; you could end up pulling in front of the fire truck at the last minute and loose your life.
Loud noise is definitely a health problem.

Absolutely correct, I wish I'd wore earplugs to a few concerts or sat back farther.

More hard truth. Too bad there's no magic way to overcome noise transmission. Thank you.

There is never any magic when it comes to the laws of physics. Physics is the law. Everything else is just a suggestion.

    Hello..
How to deal with rumble sound from truck passing in front of the house?

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  Год назад +2

Low frequency noise transmission is the most difficult of all noise to stop. It will require a new structure be built that is designed for the maximum pressure and frequency.

The most common form of road noise from a highway is actually from the tires not the engines. There has been research in paving materials and rubber for tires to reduce it. Just something to share. Thanks for sharing your knowledge sir.

Reducing amplitude at the source is a good thing. However, due to the large surface area of the road and the constant surface area friction from vehicles, the barrier requirements remain the same.

My measurements on the road by our house show 700-4000 Hz from 65-75 dB. That is pretty easy to deal with, but the occasional motorcycle, or large truck noise is a far different story.

Noise issues for barrier design fall into two main categories. We have noise above 125 hz. and noise energy below 125 hz. The barrier designs to stop this noise are dramatically different. This is why it is so important to measure the noise first, so you know what barrier to build. If you build a barrier for + 125 hz. and your noise is < 125 hz. you will have to tear it all out and start over. I can not think of anyone who wants to do that.

I see failure everday in the calls we receive when it comes to noise. The hardest thing to tell someone is that you will have to tear out your guess and start over. You must measure twice and cut once with any noise issues.

Road noise? Your mean like in cars? How can audiophiles afford cars? There's always new amps, phono cartridges and cables coming out. As the former New Orleans Saints coach said in mid season. Playoffs?... Playoffs?

Yes, agreed. Better to have music than a car.
