This was really helpful man ! I may actually make some squat gains now
+Rob Lipsett Will trade for aesthetics.
I'm glad your video content, quality and realness has never changed. You da real MVP.
+Wil Lyons Now only if my lifts would change for the better we'd be somewhere.
I really needed to watch this man. After I injured my back I've just been slacking Mann. #THUMBSUP man
+MrLondonTV Yeah I've dealt with a lot of back issues in my day, but it's forced me to really dial in what I do to avoid injury now.
Damn... that's detail on detail, really appreciate the time and effort you put in on this. Awesome stuff Brandon!!
+Ric Perfield Thanks for taking a look!
Your tips in the past have really helped all of my lifts, especially squats. Appreciate the different kind of guidance you give. Not so strictly textbook, which has really helped me, and given me a different perspective
+Shawn Dorsey awesome, glad to hear!
Best video on squats I've seen! Good video!
I just found your channel and I'm so glad this was the first video I watched, it was very informative and I actually do some of these things so it's nice to know I'm not getting used to a set up that could hinder progress!
+Kim B Thanks for taking a look Kim!
This channel rocks. I am a pro armwrestler, and there is a plethora of knowledge and content here that really helps me!!! Thanks for sharing Brandon! Keep crushing it man!
Joseph
+NBK Media Productions Thanks Joseph!
Always a pleasure. It is hard to find a channel with good content, let alone some choice comedy and one liners. Props dude.
Great summary of the key steps!
+Mario Tomic Thanks Mario!
Squats are looking great and love the note on consistency!
+Matt Laird Thanks Matt!
Great video man, very informative, great angles, and explanations! Thank you!
+Michael Joseph Thanks man!
Awesome points. Love hearing things from different people's perspective, especially from taller lifters.
+Justis Cousins I always like to hear insight from others too, helps me figure out my own shit!
Great video! I will be taking a lot from this to help my squat thanks man! Great useful content as always!
+Daniel Messer Thanks Daniel, hope it helps.
Great video Brandon thanks for sharing. I have a build very similar to yours, so your tips and advice especially with regard to mechanics have helped me out quite a bit!
+mweisser1 awesome to hear!
Solid advice my man. Especially about making sure the bar is stable before going onto the next step of each and every portion of the lift. Too many people are fighting the bar all the way through.
+Colin DeWaay Jeremy Hamilton had a great video on Omar's channel about breathing and fucking up the bar. I was thankful I didn't do that lol.
Routine is so important in free throws I think, and in lifting, especially when is engrained in the mind.
Like you say taking the thinking out of it really helps
+BORN You know it!
Great video, some food for thought, but also highlighted how everyones set up is very different. Good job, Sir.
+Sarah Howard-Jones Thanks Sarah!
Intro was hilarious lol! Great video brotha consistency is key
+Dave Lotito Thanks Dave!
Awesome tips thanks Bradon! I have been thinking about my setup maybe I can fix some issues thanks to this video!
+McKinley Griggs Hope it helps!
Brandon, great video! Production is fantastic and kudos for all the info on your squat. I'm also a post basketball playing adult that's incorporating powerlifting in his routine. Keep up the great content bro!
+jnac216 keep kicking ass!
This was a great video. Thanks Brandon
+Jazza P Thanks for taking a look!
wow Brandon very helpful and very nice video! looking very strong my man

Awesome vid B and great tips!!
+SCS Powerlifting Thanks Brian
Squat's looking great! That gym at the end looks phenomenal!
+Barbell Society UK Yeah need to get down there!
Really great points mate, genuinely extremely useful video an hope a lot of people watch this!!!I was expecting a joke after the exploding out the hole lol. SMG powerlifting looks so legit also. Nice work big man!
+Mark Macqueen Trying to be on my best behavior.
Another awesome video Brandon. SMG looks legit - might make the trip up there.
+Hobes Def should!
Well done Brandon. Looks spot on.
Thanks man!
Definitely agree! Stay consistent with pre and execution in order to maximize results. On point!
+Sid Mascardo Thanks boss!
I really don't watch many fitness RUclipsrs anymore, I got back into martial arts so lifting isnt really in the picture, but I always watch you. You're funny as fuck, informative, and youve answered all of my comments in the past haha. Continue doing your thing, I'll keep watch
+SyndicatedCrew Remind me not to make you mad so you don't jujitsu my ass.
+SyndicatedCrew To me it's about making it work based off what's important to you. When I first got out of school I did a lot of my training first thing in the morning b/c it still let me have a social life after work
+Brandon Campbell Hmmm alright thank you, Sir. Thanks for advicr and keep releasing the gay porno thumbnail
your setup is dumb i grab the bar 3 hands at a time
+Pasta Gains incredible.
lol
Thanks dude. My squat is quite weak and watching you is motivating me to hit it harder.
+Scott C Wilson just think of it as you have more room for gains.
Hey Brandon, love the video! Could you possibly make another food/nutrition video? I really enjoyed those quick 3-4 minute videos of you making your lunch or dinner! I know it's nothing too extravagant but I really like seeing how different people make their daily prep!
+Shahriar Sabri I'll see what I can do.
great video and very informative Brandon, thanks for sharing :)
+prathap umesh Thanks dude!
thanks for these tips- from another lanky home gym squatter, i'm implementing some of your set up queues.
Hope they work out
I wish I had a gym to go to like that SMG one. Barbell heaven!
+Dr. Manhattan Same here!
Damn that gym looks dope! Glad to hear your knee is feeling better
+Asif Munir Thanks boss!
Thanks for the vid. Thumb grip and stability before the skwat are two things i took away. Cheers!
+Rowan Pritchard Thanks dude!
I like the free-throw analogy. I'm going to us that. Thanks for the tip.
+Lennon Richardson Good luck!
Great video Brandon.
+Simon Kealy Thanks Simon!
Learned a lot from this. Much appreciated!
+D8B Fitness Thanks for checking it out
Nice video Brandon keep them coming
+Mike Jaskolski Thanks Mike!
Wow! Impressive lifts. Awesome video. Tons of good info. I'm just now getting over 400lb on my squat. Just earned a sub. 👍🏼
+jbw5485 appreciated!
Thanks for this video! In learning very much about your video.
Glad to hear!
Interesting video Brandon, thanks. My set up is a little different, but no less elaborate once I think about it after watching this. The point I suppose is that you don't really have to think about it at all once it gets ingrained.
+Eukleides K Exactly!
Thanks for the shoutout Brandon, hope to have you down to NY to get a good collab @ www.smgpowerlifting.com !!
+mgarozzo93kg Yessir!
Great video as always
+h00d59 appreciated!
fantastic video! helped me add some weight for my squat workout today
+David Shubich awesome to hear!
Very clean gym ! I love it !
+franks ariffin Thanks!
Cheating aka switching to low bar helped my squat out the most, srs.
Oh and it's great to see you back squating 5+plates. I grew accustomed to you throwing around those weights frequently!
+John L Hah been a long time coming back, but hopefully built up a good base to handle more.
Nice analysis !
+MeVsGravitY appreciated!
Very nice split screen effect. Good job.
+B Meyer appreciated!
My man! I'm going to have to fly you out to CA and train me soon! I have been stuck on a PR squat of 415 for the longest time!!
All about the right programming!
Excellent video. I'm also moving to a slower decent. Love the pinball launcher analogy! :)
+Todd Matthews Best thing I could think of lol.
Nice video production! Love the look!
+Rob S Thanks Rob!
In terms of routine set up. I found the same thing with my lifts as I do a set up for golf and it works 👌🏻
+Haley57 Hah that's awesome.
That was actually pretty good informationwise!!!
appreciate it
that intro commentary caught me so off guard o.o ... LOOOL
How to squat like a boss = Brandon Campbell :D
+JPdestro Keeping it honest.
Whoooh! You gettin' big B!
+Kyle Parsons forever a lil guy :(
Really enjoyed this man. Come to NY for a meet!
+Brad Gregg Was going to but it was sold out.
😂😂😂 the random t-Rex 😂😂😂
+Gabriel Sey Got to keep you on your toes.
I laughed way too hard at the T. rex. The fuch lol. This was a solid video man, I really need to hammer out my squat/bench setup after my meat. I've been having trouble bracing lately as well ill try those few breathing tips
That's a beautiful gym. Will have to check it out soon only 3 Hr megabus trip away
+Haaris Majid Training JTS has a great hour long video on it if you haven't seen it.
+Brandon Campbell you da man
Better Squirts?
Thank you for the video, thumbs up.
Sure thing!
I have a similar style in that my knees tend to push forward in the bottom 3rd of the squat. I also have tendonitis issues... trying to keep my shins more vertical helps, but that changes a few other things as well. focusing on heels helps. When weight gets heavy, I tend to revert to pushing knees forward.
+Brent Cecchini (bcpower66) right on
Awesome Video!
+Eddie Reinfranck Thanks dude
Great tips, especially about going slower on descent and exploding when inside the hole. my lady likes it slow...from time to time.
+Erick Smith hey now
+Brandon Campbell serious question though are you currently doing a DUP style training? Im thinking of transitioning into something like that or your program for that matter, I've been on the texas method for a year now and wanted to try something different. What'd recommend?
Excellent subject.
+pablo9364 appreciated dude!
I have a similar set up! Nice squats! Strong!!
+Tony Orlando Thanks Tony!
Always good content, Brandon! Have the Froning ball-sweat laden plates yielded crazy lilac gains?
+S1KrrHawaii stealing my gains if anything!
quality vid my mentor
+meeloshj Glad you thought so!
May I ask what the font you use in your videos, kind sir? Always admiring the small details and the aesthetic effort that is put into your videos, Brandon.
+Chris Chung Called badaboom, can get it on dafont
Damn, your editing is on point. What software do you use and how did you learn it ?
+MrRahulMax Premiere Pro. Just playing around with it.
Strayed awhile from your channel, glad I found my way back. Great info, and production as always. I feel like the prodigal son who humbly returned seeking forgiveness after indulging in an unfulfilling and sinful life. Lured away from the truth with the glitz, glamour, and false information that other youtube channels promised. But alas, they all left me empty and betrayed like a scorned lover, yearning to be comforted again.
i'm here for you
Great vid man . One question though , any tips for when u bench by your self at the gym. Because i got no spoter but I'd like to push my self further . So i can get stronger.
+DIABLO MODE Do it in a power rack if you can and set the safetys.
I was always taught to push on my heels. We had to do a bunch of squat drill to be allowed to squat
Right on
Nice shoes i have the same ones, Deffs Recommend for Any kind of Squats, especially front squats which is what i mainly do
+TheHunterLegion Right on!
Loved that intro hahahaha , great tips yo :D
+JP Dunas Thanks my dude
I agree with you with the wrist set up in this video! I tried to do it like Rippitoe explained, & it didn't hurt my wrists, but it hurt my elbow like a mf..
+Good Guy Gains ah sorry to hear!
I've been encountering a bit of this. I do follow starting strength, and I've found that leaning over a bit in your set up keeps the weight off your wrists and elbows and allow them to simply trap the bar against your back instead of holding the weight. I think Rip outlines it in the book as well
Man, when I try to have my grip a little more on the narrow side during low bar; I feel all kindzzzz of shoulder snaps....All Kindzzzz. So I gotta give up the tight upper-back in order to perform this shit!
+Alpha Living All about finding that spot!
Best squat form ever
+ezzitouni Ali moussa Hah while I do appreciate that, I still have some shitty form.
Hey Brandon, how's the Sit Stand desk working out for you? Do you feel like it was worth it? My boss is looking into buying some in the near future. I'm currently sitting 8 hours a day, so really looking forward to it.
+thejemag Love it IMO
almost spit my coffee with that t-rex waving the kettlebell lol
+Alon Eitan Wanted to find the one with him deadlifting but couldn't find it.
I am thinking of purchasing the monolift attachments rogue has to offer. They make it to where you don't have to step back before descending into a squat. Is stepping back before descending a big deal? Or do you think I should invest in them?
+MK Guzman I thought about getting them but based off my height and the fact I had to cut my rack to fit in the basement I don't think they'd work well. To me it also depends on if you compete in a federation where you have to walk the bar out.
who else chugs a shot whenever brandon uses the phrase "with that being said" in his videos?
+hingoppa gettin u fucked up
Damn Campbell! Back again with the white Adidas!
+Coop s damn right
How did you get rid of your tendonitis in your knees? I've got it very, very bad in both shoulders and both elbows. I've tried pretty much everything, finally shut it down for 5 months and it's come right back with light lifting.
+CookieCrumbs Time off and some icing/ibuprofen. However if you took that much time off and it's back that quickly it could mean it's more serious, or could be related to form issues.
notice on the 495 (as with me with ehavy squats) is that you prefer your left leg more it's just crazy to see the similarities between your squat form and mine
Hah yeah I got that shift going on!
Your bar placement is exactly the same as mine. For some reason, i can not place my bar below that for low bar squat. Does that mean i'm doing something wrong, or some people are just not flexible enough to place the bar lower while maintaining tightness in the back? Thx Brandon.
+kiharaaikido no not at all, people have different positions for a variety of reasons.
helpful video man! out of curiosity, which college did you play ball at??
+Micah Antonio D3 school, Randolph Macon College. Didn't play much due to injury and left halfway through the season.
Do bigger traps help with the bar pain, or do I just need to develop a callus on my vertebrae?
Vertebrate in bad
he's doing a lowbar squat. Google it. he's not placing it on his upper chest like most
+Landon Wolf upper traps wow ha
+MarkReadsReddit I think it def helps, but also learning to retract your shoulders and finding the best spot helps.
+MarkReadsReddit wtf? a callus fuck no just squeeze yer traps and rest the bar on the meaty part
or on the delts if lowbar
Reason # 1 that I love you: You don't keep the bill of your hate straight like a D bag! Great vid !
+Greg Lou I do what I can.
when i squat my foot placement is one a little behind the other not sure why ,trying to figure it out .what do you you think i should try
try putting markers on the floor (maybe even with chalk) about where your feet should go.
footage's looking beautiful, what camera are you using?
Samsung nx1
Would you say the safety 'bands' are particularly better than standard safety bars?
+KJTraining I prefer them personally
T-Rex hahaha awesome video man
Thanks dude!
is it normal to push more with your stronger leg? my right leg always feel like it gets more of a workout. I try to keep the weight even on both legs but with heavier weight I tend to shift to my right leg unintentionally. it just happens on its own.
It can happen, but should even out some over time.
Agree, thumbs need to go around the bar or bring on the pain, screw the haters! Great video thanks
+P Trana Thanks for taking a look!
Would/do you wear your adidas for all your lifts? (Except deads) like your bench and accessory movements or only for squatting?
He rotates between the Adipowers and the Nike Romaleos, but yes he uses them on bench as well
+Kyle Campion I use my heeled shoes for squats and bench, I don't do a lot of accessory work at home b/c of lack of equipment, so often times I just wear them for the duration of my training.
What thumb position should I use when I try to squat my own gut?
You don't want to know.
You mentioned that you like to sit back on your heels not the middle of your foot because you feel the weight moving to the front of the foot as you ascend. My solution is the bar needs to be a little lower down on your back. This should prevent the forward pitch. Most people who low bar squat only place the bar one inch below the traps which is too high causing forward motion onto one's toes.
I think it's more due to lack of mobility in my hips.
Brandon Campbell Diamond it could very well be your hips. The other thing you can try is looking down 45 degrees. I've noticed when looking straight ahead, my hips and knees translate forward killing hip drive. The other thing which can help you feel balanced over mid foot is as you descend into the hole, open up your hips by moving your legs out slightly. Ed Coan stresses this. I feel with tight hips you can hit depth easier.
