The Sufis are inheritors of a tradition which has influenced many world religions. Their work, which involves dreams, altered states of consciousness and teaching stories, is to further the evolution of humanity by offering deep intuitive training to select individuals. The late Mrs. Irina Tweedie was a Sufi teacher and author of Daughter of Fire, a diary of her intensive spiritual training in India with a Sufi master.

Irina mentioned the idea of Sufis as free spirits, which aligns with Nietzsche's notion of the "true free spirit." Nietzsche saw free spirits as those who rise above societal norms, embracing non-attachment. This is similar to the Sufi way of living beyond traditional religious and social boundaries.
It's incredible how the symbolism in Sufi practices, like their stories and dream interpretations, mirrors Jung's focus on symbols in understanding the unconscious. Both recognize that symbols carry important meanings, which leads to greater self-awareness and spiritual growth.

With all due respect never heard the Sufis were so ancient "before the Vedas even" what she probably meant was 'mystics' not Sufis as the word "kambalposh" she quotes is also not Sanskrit but very much Persian/urdu. 'Suf' means wool in Arabic and thus 'sufis' as this was their normal attire. All the noted Sufis were attached to Islam and Muslim countries though their outlook has been universal and above dogmas.

Just sense the loving gentle energy coming out of Sheikhah Irina , what amazing loving spirit , and Yes sufism predates all established religions indeed , Prophet Muhammad PBUH was a Sufi/Gnostic as well as Jesus PBUH was Sufi/Gnostic , the word Sufi is derived from Greek Sophia which means wisdom/knowledge/Gnosis and Prophet Muhammad in the hadith has said " Seek Knowledge /Gnosis even far in China " this is The True Islam of the Prophets , that's why quran teaches that all prophets were Muslims aka Sufis/Gnostics , there is a difference between The Established Institutional religion of Islam and Islam as the divine current and already all Muslim prophets of the Quran and the Bible didn't follow the established religion of Islam they never prayed 5 times a day or make haj to mecca or even followed Sharia law or Halacha law as we seen Jesus not condemning the prostitute and goes against Halacha/Sharia/Biblical law of stoning , that is the difference between the outward and the inward , the esoteric and the exoteric . as Sufis we are the Ancient Gnostics who has existed within all traditions , Greek , Arab , Roman , Indian and so on , we all share different names but we are all one Gnostics of the past Gnostics of today and Gnostics of Tomorrow and this is the Authentic Teachings of Islam through this real Gnostic Sufism ( unlike the fake sufism of the Sunni Asha'ari/Maturidi/Barelvi who preach hatred and takfir against Muslims ) and this is the Authentic Teachings of Christianity through Valentinian Gnostics and Gnostics of Nag Hammadi Manuscripts and the same Authentic Judiasm of Kabbalah and Philo of Alexandria and the same Authentic Hindu/Sikh Tradition with it's Gnostic sant mat and Radhasowami , all names are just names yet the truth is one , we are all the same brothers and sisters and collective souls since the beginning of time and we shall recognize each others regardless of any obstacles . Amen . may Allah Bless You all my beloved souls .

The asha'ari including Fakhar Ad Din Razi, Imam Ghazali, Abu Hanifa, great names that should not be slandered with the words "fake sufism".
There is a lot of fake sufism around today however, esp in America.
Mysticism has been there since the beginning, but from the 7th century onwards, Islam reinstated the truth, and from there blossomed the Sufi. There is no sufi without Islam. There is mystic without Islam. Sufi and mystic aren't the same. Every sufi is a mystic, but not every mystic is a sufi. Irina's teacher may be a mystic but not a sufi. There is no Hindu Sufi. There is Hindu mystic with Sufi leanings.
      Sufi comes from tassawwuf:
"The original meaning of sufi seems to have been "one who wears wool (ṣūf)", and the Encyclopaedia of Islam calls other etymological hypotheses "untenable". Woollen clothes were traditionally associated with ascetics and mystics."
Although the Sophia/wisdom etymology seems to make sense.

@@johnnyb6049 sufism has come out of the quran and its spiritual words. The oneness of God is what islam is about. All the great sufi teachers were Muslim, this is not a coincidence. How to connect with God spiritually is the route the sufis take further than the regular Muslims because sufis tend to need God more. But they still pray 5 times a day, fast, give zakat,go on hajj and so forth, they follow the quran. The westerners don't want that so they just practice the sufi essence of spirituality.

@Francis Earl zoroastrianism is a religion not a spiritual path, brother and sister get married in that faith and its based on fire and energy not the oneness of God. All the sufis are Muslims and practice islams tenants but with a spiritual path inspired by the prophet and the words of the quran. This idea of sufus being mystics isn't true, all sufis practice in a mosque lol not another place. The prophets image has been tainted by texts that are not of the quran. As a Muslim myself I Don't believe in sects as they are not given by the path if the quran, thats why people have a distorted image of Islam.

@Francis Earl the quran doesn't say jesus is returning nor we are to consult the gospel, these ideas have come from judean tradition that was translated into Arabic. The quran doesn't state what you mentioned. Most people don't know the quran to be fair lol. All religions have been distorted by people of faith. In terms of hadith there's millions of them, its not a revelation, it was recorded by a non arab who came to Arabia nearly two centuries after the prophets death.

Holy prophet Mohammad pbuh had a place near his room which was dedicated for these ppl who were being trained in spiritual way..any non-muslim cannot get into the Sufi circles if he or she is not Muslim ..you say and believe in Muslim kalma or shahada..ordinary shariah abiding Muslims also need more time of zikr and Sufi practices after strictly fulfilling the compulsory five pillars of Islam..a Hindu but naqashbandi teacher is beyond us all muslims

I also belief that sufism (mysticism) is much older then Islam but how can she explain the traditions within sufi Islam that sufi islam is the right form of Islam and that it was taught by prophet Muhammad to Ali ibn abu talib his cousin and son in law? Or is is both true ,, that Sufism predates most/all religions including Islam and that it was the true/right interpretation of Islam? Plz someone answer these questions peace & love.

Brad Watson : Irin is to some degree right - but she has some faulty interpretation of what sufism stands for. In regards to your questions Islam is and was the true religion and mysticism within Islam is the embodiment of secrets that might be revealed to those who works towards seeking it. Now Mysticism predating islam doesn't mean that religions before Islam were not true, rather from the beginning (Adam) to the end of the prophet-hood ( Muhammad pbuh ), there has always remained a group of people who transmitted and remained on the right path. In regards to the last part of your Question > You cannot say that Sufism is the right interpretation of Islam, because Islam embodies all the knowledge that mankind ought to know and understand. Therefore sufism is just a path in understanding the very essence of islam, but to the degree i understand it its not for everyone because not every human being accept to become conscious beings nor works to understand the essence of all essences.

    • @ferdowsi88
      @ferdowsi88 9 лет назад +1

To kind of shed some light : Why is there so much emphasis on islam and the way of sifism within the teaching of islam ? and the importance it stresses in understand the Quran and the way of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh ? I would like to make this as clear as possible because there is some complexity and intricacy involved in this. Every sufi master after islam yet also before islam, those who understood the truth before islam sought to achieve enlightenment and understand the secrets of life knew of the last prophet as every prophet before Prophet Muhammad preached their message and with it said of the last Prophet. Why does this have importance in the sufi traditions you might ask ? Well if you read every Sufi masters life and their steps is basically traced parallel to the steps of Prophet Muhammad. Meaning that without the permission of Prophet Muhammad given to the Sufi Master, one would not understand even the minutest truth nor on that line become a conscious being nor any secrets be revealed to him or her. Because Prophet Muhammad knows all of these truths and is hidden within his chest ... and if any Sufi Master trying to attain something he must understand and achieve ths through the masters of all and the most and only perfect human being, that is Prophet Muhammad pbuh.
I hope this is of some help ... if any question arises, i am sure there will be dont hesitate to ask. As Rumi says ( "i am just the dust on the foot of Prophet Muhammad").

People who were seeking God existed since ages. Even in the age of Muhammad, there existed the the Ashab ul suffa. All this people were after one God. But this movement got a huge push after Islam and Muhammad. After the advent of Islam there was a steady stream of saints and walis, the sufis. Sufism became more active and mainstream after Islam. Sufism got more recognition due to Islam. The love of Allah and Muhammad are the central tenants of sufis. To dissociate sufis from Islam and Muhammad and Islamic teachings is a favourite past time of such people. Such people at best r gnostics, not sufis. Sufism flourished under the umbrella of Islam. Under which religion is the existence of One is stressed like in Islam? None. Meditation on Allah, his attributes shown through 99 names is one aspect of sufism. Why try to dissociate this from Islam. What is the need.

There's literally no sufism as it stands today if it weren't for islam/Allah lol. Believers of God have always existed due to the fact that all gives people hidayah of the heart, some through hidayah of the mind. Some need God spiritually more than others, others need God intellectually more than others. the heart and mind both are the paths of Allah can give people hidayah through. Islam is an old religion started from noah as a prophet preacher of the oneness of Allah, then it continued on through the other prophets, all had the same message.
