It's Ketsui time! Because one amazing CAVE shmup deserves another. In classic CAVE fashion we have another TATE shmup that has projectiles flying in every direction in some of the most visually intense patterns I feel like the devs at CAVE ever made. Another retro gaming classing from the kings of the arcade shmup genre!

Welcome to IGS PGM Palooza!
When it comes to arcade boards that really show off what 16 bit art can do everyone always thinks of the Neo Geo but did you know IGS had a VERY similar arcade board with the PolyGame Master? It's retrogaming goodness!
Up next : Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi! Sure we've been covering a LOT of CAVE shmups on the PGM series but Cave made retro gaming magic when it came to the shmups on the PGM. They are everything you want in a bullet hell shoot em up; amazing graphics, a killer soundtrack and hard as nails difficulty. Its retrogaming magic!

I wish people understood how these games feel to play when you're blissfully dodging all the patterns as the electronic music is pumping and all the beautiful flickering artwork is scrolling past you. It's really unlike any other genre.
Yes its a quality that needs to be played to understand
Oh yea, love it when I get into that Zen moment and nothing else matters. Love the genre.
That zen in the zone is great
One of my faves along with Deathsmiles & Mushimesama (Stage4 music😍).
To think at one point I had nearly all the cave pcbs, then I sold them 🤣🤦♂️ oh well.
I can hope we may get some of these on the mister at some point in the future as I’m very much loving playing esprade!😍
Yeah the soundtracks for CAVE games are always legit. Deathsmiles will always my fav one though
I Love my IGS PGM System.I got all the Cave shooters Including Bee Storm 2. Maybe one day i have the complete Set at home. And i love your Videos keep them coming. Greetings from Austria.
Austria eh? Where in Austria? I used to go to our European office in Innsbruck
@@VideoGameEsoterica i live in Berndorf near Vienna.
Nice. Never been but Innsbruck was a great place!
I was wondering if the PGM ports had slight differences in graphics and/or audio compared to the original arcade PCBs, but I believe this video answers that, basically no difference that I can see or hear. Not that I own original cave PCBs but just from memory playing in arcades, and comparing to MAME running them. Thanks for the footage.
I’m sure there is some minuscule difference a huge fan of the game could spot but yes they seem very 1:1 to me
My overall fave SHMUP ever!
Of all time eh?
Love the genre of shoot em ups and I've been really getting into the Cave shmups too. I'm surprised the OP didn't mention the M2 Shotriggers AMAZING port on PS4. Yes the boards are super expensive and many people wouldn't have been able to play them before, but with many of the Cave games being ported now, it's the perfect time to try them out. In fact, I strongly feel the M2 PS4 port makes the arcade pcb completely obsolete. There's a training mode that lets you practice specific parts of each level, a super easy mode, an arcade perfect mode, a Japan only enhanced mode and a couple other modes I'm forgetting. Plus, a bunch of in-game tweaks you can choose.
Funny you commented. I was just capturing Ketsui today for a video on the RetroTink 4K and TATE rotation on the device
In the service menu you can turn on autofire on C button and have a choice between fast and concentrated movement speed so dodging complex patterns and zapping through the screen becomes easier
It’s fun CAVE gave that option
Masterpiece
100%
Ketsui is probably the best Cave Shooter. (I have the Ketsui Deathtiny in PS4)- It is curious that all Cave shooters have such tragic stories in all of them. Ketsui is all about a suicide mission
haha yeah there are no happy stories in CAVE shmups
it really is a good one, that OST 🥹💗
The soundtrack is awesome for sure
Cave rules.
they really do. Sadly the algorithm doesn't think so because again the reach on this video is 10% the norm for my channel. Something about the name or "bullet hell shmup" must be setting some flag...so this may be one of the last videos I do on the genre
@@VideoGameEsoterica That does suck. Your channel deserves much more attention IMO, I really enjoy your coverage of retro gaming, obscure arcades, MiSTer, etc. Cave is one of my favorite game makers, I have a collection of all of the region free xbox 360 ports. I'm really looking forward to an eventual pgm core for MiSTer. In any case, know that your work is appreciated, always great production and presentation, and you take the time to cover things that might not get the promotion that it deserves.
@@VideoGameEsoterica it seems like people are intimidated by the genre or don't get it. You did a good job explaining why we like these type of games. Maybe the mister cores will open them up to more people. I usually recommend the original deathsmiles as the game to start playing as the difficulty is more relaxed.
The click through rate is GOOD but the impressions (amount of people shown the video) plummets. I think there is some word or tag that flags something but I cant figure it out
haha I agree! But I am biased. Growth is good but nothing has exploded as of yet...just steady upward mobility
I am much like you, Love the games but seriously suck at them LOL
I find them both beutifull and fun but usually cant play them for long without my eyes going wonky!!
This and DDP are the only Shmups I own.
I always try to advocate on the channel...just because you aren’t good at a game doesn’t mean you can’t have fun playing it!
@@VideoGameEsoterica absolutely!
Please tell me bee storm is on the list!!!
It is...but I may move it to Sunday and replace the Tuesday video with another beat em up...because these shmup stats are killing me. But it’s uploaded and will be somewhere soon
@@VideoGameEsoterica understandable!!
@@VideoGameEsoterica keep up the good work though man you are putting out great content
😍
:)
It's a shame Deathtiny is locked to PS4.
This is Cave's best Shmup
CAVE shmups always have such odd releases
Yes, huge shout out to the M2 port on the PS4. I'd love to see any version of Ketsui on the MISTER some day, but Deathtiny (like their Garegga port) forces me to fire up the PS4.
360 was Cave heaven for some reason and I have almost all of them.
@@chrismoon2961 I don't have a PS4 anymore so I can't play Deathtiny. I do fire it up in MAME and Final Burn Neo from time to time.
PGM on MISTer is a must. I want to get a mister but between the De10 Nano's not being easy to get and Arcade cores still under development I think it's best I wait for a bit.
I am sure PGM will come to MiSTer eventually
Although the ps4 port is competent, the timing and speed does not match the pgm version. PGM verison all the way.
generally thats how it always goes with shmups and ports from arcade it seems
@@VideoGameEsoterica hence why ppl like you and me still rather go after pcbs despite the number of good solid ports out there today.
More money than common sense 😂
I actually thought the PS4 version was 100% spot on and the 360 one of slightly faster.
I haven’t played them side by side but I’ve heard mention of it being changed slightly. Probably only the top 1% of players even notice I’d assume...and that’s def NOT me
