The newest video in our #How-To series, this video outline how to layout an #Earthship. When the land has been excavated and you have a level, flat surface - the building is laid out with string-line and math. The #Pythagorean theorem. How to layout an Earthship to be sure you have the correct sized rectangle that has proper 90 degree angles.
I really appreciate the "down and gritty" of this video being a hands on person I can understand this.
Thank you! I am building a virtual earthship for an assignment and this helped a lot!
i love you guys....and i dream of living in an earthship...please spread your goodness world wide :)
thanks for the video! :) looking forward to more
Nice Video, Great information. Thanks
I've always wanted to build an earthship. The technology is sound & good!
This is awesome, i wish it was more accepted and mainstream. Im sure with heavy machinery and a well trained crew these homes could be made suuuper fast and with little effort... i cant see why there arent professional companies mass producing these homes... (maybe there are?)
could these techniques be used for high density housing, like apartment complexes?
Labor intensive, longer to build than traditional. Oh, cost wise, more expensive than traditional construction.
Being ‘eco’ has its perks but it sure has its costs...
I am in!
laying that first course is hard piping! :O
Could these homes help people avoid hurricane devastation on islands? (I.e. Puerto Rico)
I guess the damage would be less, especially if the solar and other things are thoroughly attached.
Your problem would be humidity but they would withstand hurricanes a lot better than other homes.
Whenever you are available to experiment your project here in the Caribbean, pls. put me on the top to of the list! I live in Puerto Rico btw.
i know right? White people are legendary
i wonder would he pythagorean theorem work on a circular modules on several buildings positio in a horseshie
Can I use metal for framing the Earthship instant of wood or the metal expansion and contraction are going to be problems?
You could but it would me more expensive. There is no wood contraction, they are not exposed to the environment.
Any advice for getting about 1200 cardboard boxes to pack into the tires before pounding?
local recycling center. local restaurants. local supermarkets.
Fast food restarounts go through a lot of boxes find a few and ask if you can collect the boxes.
@pyramonitor seems like you probably read "the shape", by cliff high
Is there an easier way than pounding these tires by hands?
imagine a comunity of these houses, thats future
There are tons of communities like those, specially around Taos, New Mexico.
dump the music so we can hear what is being said
I miss english subtaitles, becose I dont understane everything properly and I would like to translate some your videos to Czech. Can anyone make an english subtitles?

How would you prep the foundation on sand?
@Doc Milsap the place where I want to build is on sand. So once again I ask do you prep the foundation. If so how?
I'm pretty sure doc your clueless
A squared plus b squared equals c squared
no foundation needed... interresting
It's not 5, but 6. 6 by 8 by 10.
Wait...what? 5squared plus 8 squared does NOT equal 10 squared! That corner is NOT SQUARE!
It was 6 and 8 which will give you 10.
'cause no one in a clear mind wold like to live in a house with so much resin in walls. We are not in the 70s, in modern-day world tyres are really recycled, i.e. re-made into something, that needs all the qualities of resin. Like resin slabs, dampers and other technical things, not houses to live in.
is offgasing a big problem I keep hearing it is.
If you cover tires, inside and out and keep them out of the elements, theres no sun, air nor water hitting them, then there's no degradation. This means no breakdown into the environment (That breakdown is what would happen in a dump somewhere). Check into the site "tires are safe dot com".
I've been building one for a few months now and there is not a tire smell unless you put your nose right on a tire. We're a permaculture operation and doing 100% Organic, we want to be sure there are no toxins. We wrap the back of the tires with plastic before we put the soil of the berm against them. We make sure that plastic goes down below the bottom tire and inside we will stucco the entire wall with cement and then a biochar cob.
p.s. in the background of this video, you'll see an O.D. Green Scout (looks like a bronco) with a white star on it. That's mine! This footage was Taylor County GA in 2010. Best thing that ever happened to me. I have faith in the human race again!
no it equals 9.434
earthship = mudship in this flood lol

do you eye ball your measurements? No way you measure with any precision.
