Yep. I remember getting really excited to watch this series after school. I was made fun of so much for loving this show in the 90s. I've always loved MacBeth's and Demona's storyline in the City of Stone.
I own the 2 seasons of this. Epic tv series, one of the best ever. And before anyone says "well there was a 3rd..." NOOOOOO! Far as I'm concerned only 2 seasons.....and Greg's canon comics.
I have fond memories of catching episodes around 9PM as a little kid I rewatched it in college, and I loved how well it held up I'm a mythology nerd, so the Avalon world tour was the best!
I just love this cartoon, one of the best that Disney has done in recent years, it deserved a movie adaptation, or that they continued where they left off, especially after Disney Plus. Thanks for bringing another pearl, I'm a fan of this channel. I speak directly from Brazil.
ya live action or reboot or something is long over due for this legendary disney franchise. it shouldn't be forgotten... the spell needs to be broken and gargoyles live again! 😢😁
Oh I loved this one when I was a kid. It was one of those shows that made me a big believer in Justice and Warriorship, a forgotten concept I would say needs to be revisited.
This is my favourite epic fantasy cartoon, bar none. Everyone was so well crafted, it could easily be developed into a live action movie. I'd love to see a live action Eliza. Other live action shows of this era were almost as epic as this. Highlander, Buffy, Dark Justice...etc, but this show was on such a grand scale, over thousands of years.
Originally, Goliath was the only gargoyle to be given a name by the humans in Scotland in 938 A.D. The other gargoyles in the Manhattan Clan adopted their names after being awakened by David Xanatos.
Greg Weisman is an amazing creator and producer who's behind this awesome gem as well as Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice (helped produce both) and with that aside, thanks Marvelous for this video.
15:40 “Villainous version of Tony Stark!” That is so funny! I’ve been thinking about it too about when the first Iron Man movie came out! I was thinking at first, “Tony Stark reminds me of Xanatos only the heroic version.”
Damn this has to be the first show I ever really got excited for story wise. Like I was keeping up on this when I was like 6. And shout out to Keith David. Can’t believe how many of my favorite shows and games he has lent his voice to.
Spawn, Barricade in the Bayverse Transformers video games, and the President of the United States in Rick and Morty are three of his more memorable voice actor roles.
I got into star trek after watching gargoyles as a kid. I rewatched gargoyles in college and was pleasantly surprised how many TNG actors were voice actors in it.
15:06 On “Gargoyles”, Salli Richardson voiced Elisa Maza and her human-gargoyle hybrid clone was Delilah, not Eureka. Richardson was on the SciFi channel’s “Eureka” tv series after her run on “Gargoyles”.
And then Kate Mulgrew played Captain Janeway in Star Trek not the Queen of Avalon. Those are 2 glaring errors back to back. Don't you guys proof read these scripts?
I've only seen season 1 and half of season 2. It was a show I feel can be enjoyed by kids and adults(kinda like some anime). I guess this and Hellboy is where I really learned to appreciate contemporary fantasy.
Its story maturity was akin to Robotech. Just as many adults were fans of both shows as the children due to their progressive and mature themes. Way ahead of their time. Not surprisingly, neither series has been picked up for live-action movies or TV series, with Deep Space: 9 and Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future getting the same treatment.
I was 5-6yr at the time back then but this show was and Truly is a Masterpiece I loved it and when it was released on Disney + I binged watched it straight 👊😌 🌕
I absolutely loved this show Keith David was unbelievable as the voice of Goliath it was dark I did like the episode where Elisa got turned into a Gargoyle and Goliath feelings came out more of how he felt about her
so much beautiful writing... A lighthouse in the Sea of Time is one of my favorite episodes... from Hudson struggling with being illiterate, and Broadway managing to talk down Macbeth solely from the newly discovered respect he had for evocative storytelling... "go ahead and burn them...they're WORTHLESS, no magic at all" "NO! ...it is magic, Goliath...Precious magic...."
Every time we drove from our cabin in the Rollinsville/Black Hawk area, as soon as the Denver skyline came into view, our 4 year old daughter was convinced that’s where “Gwileth” lived. I loved watching them with her.
Gargoyles gets shelved by Disney execs too much. I just recently finished the entire show and now I can't get it out of my head because I want more. This was a very revolutionary cartoon and a masterpiece of a show, but it never gets the recognition its earned.
As I remember, the NEA declared this to be one of best animated shows of the 90's. As a kid, it was one of my favorite shows. A blend of myth ,sci-fi, history and damn good writing.
Similar to you all, I watched Gargoyles almost every afternoon; after my college classes curled up with my gf at the time. A great show. Xanatos actually has a Trope named after him on TV Tropes: the Xanatos Gambit (named for many of his plots where even if you beat him, he still won). Season 2 was probably the best: the world tour of other mythologies as they struggled to deal with some powerful magic artifacts. New allies are met, new dangers discovered, and a bunch of the wider world is discovered. Then it moved to Saturday morning and they turned it into an X-Men cartoon.
Elisa is one of my top favorite female characters of all time. She's badass without being tryhard. Standing next to her at the top of my list are Aloy and Amicia de Rune. Awesome review! edit: October 2023, it was announced that a reboot is in progress. We'll have to wait and see what happens!
First Saw This Show On ABC Family (Now Freeform) in 2004 and I was hooked the only Disney Cartoons I watched that wasn't a movie tie in were Kim Possible Proud Family and Reccess also Pepper Anne and Lloyd In Space
This show was on the year I was born but I found it when I was 6 on Toon Disney. My childhood show before I got into TMNT. Gargoyles was just an awesome show and had that flare for showing mature elements like blood. It also showed great philosophical messages. They sure don't make shows like this anymore.
The show gargoyles was amazing it was in a lot of ways ahead of its time cuz it do well a lot of social issues and stuff like that really when it would blend in a topic it did a pretty good job on talking about it. Like the safety with gun use you like you shouldn't play with a firearm. How Elisa Maza got shot by Broadway and really try to have a talk about the mishandling of gun( and not really being honest about truly telling the truth )
I still love all 3 seasons and do a rewatch every once in a while , but I never saw it or felt it was too dark, mature and fun yes though. All 3 seasons mean something to me. 1st season-Wide eyed to new world. 2nd season -character building and mythology. 3rd season - Fight against discrimination against a race and trying to be accepted by society. 💜
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, and I just found out they are remastering the side scroller game of Gargoyales, and it comes out October 19th and there is rumors of a live action movie in the works
Had no idea there was so many big names now involved in Gargoyles. Forgot how dark the origin was as well, but hey started in Scotland my own wee place. Wish they mentioned the castle
Gargoyles is one of my favorite cartoons ever. Such a good mix of mythology, good stoylines, and really well drawn characters for that decade. My favorite episodes are Heritage with Raven the Trickster, and the two episodes with Griff (the one where Goliath goes back to WW2 Britain and the one where Griff meets king Arthur). It saddens me that it just ended suddenly in the third season just when everyone accepted the gargoyles after saving people from a train attack from some anti gargoyle fanatics. As much as I want to see more episodes again, or even a remake, I doubt that Disney is capable of doing it without ruining it with their obsessive need to plant left winged extremist ideologies into their media. Doing so will instantly ruin the remake and make the company think that it is not worth it and shelf it for years more. Furthermore, they will likely change the art style to something either cheap to save money, or in what they think is a new 'artsy' style that would make long time fans roll their eyes.
"As much as I want to see more episodes again, or even a remake, I doubt that Disney is capable of doing it without ruining it with their obsessive need to plant left winged extremist ideologies into their media. " Are you SURE you watched Gargoyles? Because it was FILLED with what you would call "left wing ideologies". And it covered things like racism, bigotry, cult mentality, disabilities, and even gun issues and promoted good "Gun" safety. Also, did you know Lex was gay? Yah, a gay gargoyle. Oh, AND they did change the art style. The last season - the Goliath Chronicles - were HORRIBLE and most real fans don't consider them good or cannon. The stories were sub-par compared to earlier shows, the animation was grainy and horrible, and the original show creators and animators were let go from it the end of season 2 which is why it tanked. So... guess you didn't like it much after all... ?
This show and Batman the animated series competed head-to-head to see who which cartoon was more edgy in the 90s then again it was the 90s so pretty much everything was edgy unlike today.
I still have my copy of the Gargoyles VHS tape / board game that I got when I was eleven years old. 📺📼🎲♟ But y'all young folk don't know anything about that, though. 😂🤣
This series should have a sequel adapted to the stories written by Christine Morgan because they’re so mature and fit right into the world of Gargoyles.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Goliath: “One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness, it was a world of fear, it was the age of Gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, we were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken and we live again! We are defenders of the night, we are Gargoyles!”
This cartoon was one of the best, the story, the characters, the translation (German) was so fitting to the characters - I wish those time back ..Gargoyles, batman - the animated series, Thundercats, He-Man :-D
I liked the one Easter Egg they snuck in the episode where it's Halloween and the Gargoyle can move around. Alicia is with Goliath and she's wearing the gown from Beauty and the Beast, which more or less sums up their relationship.
If Batman & Tony Stark were bad guys in one guy named Xanatos... Great series. Got too mystical is series 3. Wish you had fleshed out how the Butler Assistant was actually an old god in disguise.
I loved this show when I was a kid , looking back the cybertronic things and the villains etc got kinda corny at times but this was the 90s lol but it was still a great show . I live movie adaptation def needs to happen .

The toys were pretty sick too. Like stone skin Goliath, who could Crack off his skin, Xanatos who had a snap on robot gargoyle suit, or the exploding robot gargoyle.
This is one I always hold dear to my heart as even a lot of people my own age slept on it. Deserves so much more cred 👌

Brilliant writing, brilliant voice cast great show overall
They actually showed this in theaters

this is when Disney still had creativity
its when they actually tried new stuff!
Right
This is my favourite epic fantasy cartoon, bar none. Everyone was so well crafted, it could easily be developed into a live action movie. I'd love to see a live action Eliza. Other live action shows of this era were almost as epic as this. Highlander, Buffy, Dark Justice...etc, but this show was on such a grand scale, over thousands of years.
This is such an underrated classic with some of the best stories and characters ever written. The voice casting was definitely on point.
One of Disney's best. Of course, Disney is always one and done with their most innovative stuff.
"One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of Darkness, it was a world of fear, it was the age of gargoyles."
Goliath is that you 😳
So good!
Originally, Goliath was the only gargoyle to be given a name by the humans in Scotland in 938 A.D.
The other gargoyles in the Manhattan Clan adopted their names after being awakened by
David Xanatos.
Demona was also named by the humans of the old times, but it was a name Goliath had never heard until Manhattan

I wouldn't be surprised if the comic book version inspired elements of Xanatos
The intro music was .. astounding.
Also David Keith's voice - awesome.
Yes!! Thanks and safety to ya all as always!!

The repeated mispronunciations of "Hakon," "Magus," "Eliza" and "Demona" are driving me crazy.
Disney's answer to Batman: The Animated Series.
No Doubt-Curious that this video makes no mention of the obvious influence...
@@mck1972 Oddly why it doesn't.
This show needs a revival. One that it rightfully deserves, cause I wish I could’ve watched this in all its glory

This was my favorite show growing up. My three year old just starting watching it and loves it. They don't make them like this anymore.
Every time we drove from our cabin in the Rollinsville/Black Hawk area, as soon as the Denver skyline came into view, our 4 year old daughter was convinced that’s where “Gwileth” lived. I loved watching them with her.
Love the Gargoyles. It is Disney's best cartoon.
One of my favorite shows back then
GARGOYLES! the greatest anime of the 90's hands down no competition 💪👍💪
By far Disney’s best cartoon!
One of the best shows Disney ever made we need either an animated continuation of the show or a live action movie series of this gem.
