Fyi, There's a fan theory that believes, Annie or Abed is the ass crack bandit. The ass crack bandit is too fast to be in these locations. Abed is the fastest, we learn this in se1 ep11, with the std fair, also he is nowhere in this episode when someone get's cracked lol. I can't explain Annie's because it spoils an episode in season 6. I believe you can find the theory on film theory's channel.

@@lolBadPandaHonestly the reason to suspect Annie is right there in the episode, they spend this entire episode only talking about ABC with male pronouns, but then at the very end Annie opens the door to using female pronouns to describe them.
Not only is that a weird thing to do on its own, but thematically it is just like in Fist Full of Paintballs when she announces the possibility of the paintball winner being female… because she is talking about herself!

This episode is an homage to David Fincher movies, especially Zodiac. The constant raining, the fakeout reveal of Duncan as the ACB, the perpetrator sending poorly worded letters, and the ultimate unsolved nature of the crimes. Annie and Jeff catching Starburns at his place unawares and him taking off was like Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman going to John Doe's apartment and him getting spooked in Seven. And the cover of Creep sung by kids was in the trailer for the Social Network.

Ben Folds did the "Ass Crack Bandit" song and was also in the episode as the guy with the plants. The lyrics are so good:
    It said quarter to five
But it was quarter to ass
You thought your plumbing was safe
    But your jeans were half-mast
    Another coin down the drain
Now that's some change that won't last
    Twenty-five cents at a time
    He's taking our souls
    Government man can't help
    We're all alone
    Are you feeling the breeze?
Did you pull your belt tight?
    You know that it's wrong
    You know that it's right
Out of the shadows, down the coin goes
    Why, oh, why d'you suppose?
    (Only the Bandit knows)
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K Bandit
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K can't stand it
Coins on the sidewalk, coins in the palm of my hand
Coins in the ass crack or the eyes of a dead man
Drawn from the shadows, quartered by fate
He's the Ass Crack Bandit, enemy of the state
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K Bandit
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K can't stand it
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K
He'll give you no quarter, but he'll... give you *a* quarter
The government just takes your change away
Maybe we're the crooks, and he's the hero
Maybe he's the Messiah, who's to say...
Save yourself a coin for the ferryman
Crossing the River Styx of your ass
Wipe the smile from your face, kids, 'cause this ain't funny
And don't forget your jukebox money!
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K (Bandit)
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
    A-S-S C-R-A-C-K (can't stand it)
    Can't stand the fear,
    Can't stand not knowing,
    Can't stand forever,
    E·ven·tu·al·ly, we all bend over
In the end, yeah, we all bend over
In the end, yeah, we all bend over
Your brothers, your sisters, they all bend over
Your friends and enemies, they all bend over

All I meant was that if Dan Harmon did indeed intend for Annie to be the ACB, the evidence presented in this episode at times seemed to contradict that. I would love to accept that Annie is the ACB. I’m just trying to reconcile the creator’s intention with some questions presented by the episode, such as why she was so afraid of Duncan if she knew he wasn’t the ACB.

Like the whole episode we were all treating it very seriously like it definitely had to be one person, but I think literally every character they showed had done it at least once while not taking the situation seriously off camera lol And then they were all worried about getting caught for it because of how seriously it was being taken or something. It's Abed. In the bleachers scene, he's up front, but right before the cracking, he disappears.
Also, Annie's whole line of reasoning starts with the assumption that someone would have to be really fast to get from scene to scene, so she thinks someone used the faculty lounge. But we learned in early seasons that Abed is the best athlete on campus and is the fastest. He could easily do it.
Lastly, he's the only one with a strong motive, because he'd love to do a Fincher homage.
    It's Abed.

If you want to know who the asscrack bandit is there are two videos where the cast reunites for a table read through of an episode. The second video is a kind answer of questions and some ask who the asscrack bandit is and they reveal who "she" is

Guys starburns was confirmed to be alive at the end of season 3 I believe. Its at the end of a previous one, you could read it on a newspaper they shot to end the episode. I even think we saw him at the end of a season as well shaving or something. Regardless him being alive is not new information, im 100% sure. Anyway, eric says they are one third of the way there to confirming pierces replacement... I thought the best was within 3 episodes starting from the first one last week, then this one this week. Only 1 more episode to go right? Wouldn't that be 2/3s of the way there?

The Ass Crack Bandit was such a random callback to a one sentence reference from Season 2. But what an amazing mystery they formed for it. My money is still on Abed being the ACB, but who knows, maybe we do get an answer in the movie.

I think a theory is that it’s many of the study group, Annie, Britta, Abed, when Troy is presenting the Troy Law, you can see Abed next to the Dean, but when the cracking begins, he’s no longer there

My theory is that Duncan was the original bandit but then when he had his fun he left. The recent incidents were then conducted once again by Duncan but Shirley is became the second one as a way of getting revenge for Troy.

I think at some point, everyone (the major characters maybe excluding Jeff) cracked someone else. Like a copycat crime. They all had motivations or the capability to do so. They used the situation to their advantage. Regardless, I think Film Theory's explanation of who the bandit could be is very interesting.

Theres a lot of great theories surrounding the ass crack bandit. Havent heard "there must be multiple people," which is a similar theory surrounding Jack The Ripper.
One of my favorite fan theories is that it was Abed. The note from the bear sounds like his manner of speaking. And he disappeared during the bleacher scene, when he was with the Dean.
On another note, I think it ironic Starburns claims he came up with the first animal powered form of transportation, while living in a stable.

Nah, Abed will be the favorite. The scene in Duncan's office proves it's not Annie to me, the articles show many cracking at school events that Jeff would not be near. Abed loves movies, knows everything going on campus, fast enough, would know how to get night vision and voice changer. Also disappears from sitting next to dean during the bleacher scene.
