@@ブラクマト exactly how I feel
Truly
The third personality might have shown up early this episode actually. When talking to "Dr. Harrow" at the beginning, Marc, or whom we believe to be Marc, had a bandage on his nose and was speaking with an entirely different accent and using different slang from either Steven or Marc
This episode broke me.
This episode made me realise that Oscar Isaac truly deserves awards for his performance in these roles as Marc and Steven.

@Subhi Hussain One of my favourite movies growing up was Sucker Punch and he was awesome in that. He was also really good in Drive. I’ve still never watched Ex Machina. Might watch it tonight.
@@slushy8603 they wasted him and John Boyega. I love Star Wars and I’m still mad about the sequel trilogy.
Yeah agree 100% they gotta stop snubbing the marvel actors at the Emmy’s. Liz Olsen deserved one for wandavision as well
Dude's acting is so on point, it feels like they're two separate actors.
I was also a bit confused at first when Marc randomly starts screaming and freaking out at steven but I just realized that it happens right after steven says "it will be all your fault" when talking about Layla being killed. That triggers Marc's past trauma with his mom saying his brother's death was all his fault and he freaks out. That's a great detail, this show is filled with so much good sht.
I didn’t think of it that way, but that makes a lot of sense. It was like he went to an almost childlike state in that moment.
@@kunglaoshat1250 It makes sense when you remember how much marvel focused on that line throughout the episode. The episode begins with a close up of Marc’s mom saying that line, then jump-cuts back to where we left off in episode 4. This would clearly make him distraught and maybe perceive it as if his mom was saying to him over and over.
@@kunglaoshat1250 yep. as someone who has childhood trauma, sometimes a simple phrase from another person can “activate” a child version of ourselves that’s reliving the trauma. it’s as if it takes over our mind & body in that moment.
That makes so much sense
@@clarradactyl7791 I’m so sorry you had to experience that growing up. I will never understand how someone can be so twisted that they would hurt a literal child. I know healing from trauma isn’t a linear process, but I hope you have been able to find some healing ❤️
It's beautiful that in a way since Steven is a creation of Marc's, that he basically forgave himself for what happened. Abusive parents can really send their kids down a tragic path.
Go back to your kid GINGGGG!!!!!!!!
@@ROY-ti5wc better a missing dad then abusive one

@@franky8514 It's not impossible did you not read OP's comment properly?.

dude Marc yelling "I won't do it!" genuinely scared me, it was so fucking intense Oscar Issac is an amazing actor!
Yep
the line "your not meant to see that, that's the whole point of you" hits so hard
Sheera has been the first reactor I've seen to point out that Marc's mom should have been hospitalized, she clearly couldn't cope with the fact she was really responsible for Roro's death (it's a parent's responsibility to protect their child, no matter what) and lost her mind and the husband tried to put everything under the rug (also his coping mechanism).
At the very least if the dad didn't want to admit his wife was insane she was clearly an alcoholic and needed help with that
also throw in the father with responsibility, so THEIR fault, but then again it may have been something they did all the time, and yeah, it may have been a religious thing as to why the father did not commit her or he was the bread winner and could not afford to lose his wife to watch him at home, remember when he comes home he probably saw steven, not marc, thinking everything is good, he just saw her being mean not abusive.
@@ck_idgaf1680 you are right, I was just focusing on the mom but intended the "responsabilty" statement as a general idea. The situation is just terrible and it's clear that both the parents reacted in a bad way, the mom blaming and the dad being incapable of dealing with what was happening and trying to live normally (this is a coping mechanism too and disastrous in the long run as we see here). The reasons for the dad could be many, as you stated. This is why it's important for the majority of people to be educated about mental health and having an easier access to various form of therapy: sadly in our real world we don't have a cute Hippo goddess and a mystical underworld to help us face these problems and many people find themselves in situations like this (and even worse)
Both Marc and his mom
Maybe because at that time, no one wants their family members to be labeled as insane, especially when you're part of an extreme devotion of faith (Marc's dad being a rabbi)? Or that beating up your child was normal and known as a method for disciplining children?
I mean, it's bad and Sheera's response is what should have been done but people forget taking consideration of the context of time and place within that culture.
NOTE: I don't know how Jewish people respond to this problem during that time so I'm just speaking from my cultural upbringing. In my community before the advent of mental health awareness (aka toxic boomers with extreme devotion and practicing it mostly the wrong way), people's response to Marc's situation were almost exactly like that. Good thing right now is we have mental health awareness and a lot of awareness due to the advent of internet.
Mark's line of saying he gets to keep being what he's ALWAYS been, a killer... It hurts so much cause he believes he's been a killer since he couldn't save his brother.
That's also why they found his brother in the room of the dead
@@Dynnen his brother is a villain in the comics Randall Spector aka Shadow Knight
Best episode of the whole show for me. This made moon knight my fav Disney marvel show by large margin. Just hope that the finale delivers as they have alot to do in 1 episode.
Or they could just leave most of the story for season 2🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
@@InfamousTerry4 they've stated there will be no season 2 unfortunately
Yeaaa fr, it's still no competition with Netflix marvel show like Daredevil or Jessica Jones but this is hella close
@@jueru0 wait really???? Noooooooo.....
last episode is gonna be Moon Knight vs Harrow
sheera def shows how motherhood impacts the way you look at marc's mother. sheera's commentary, empathy, and distress for marc/steven is top tier
This episode had a little tear coming out my eye for a quick second. That scene where he broke down on the street after his mom died and he reverted to Steven’s personality was so heartbreaking. And when Steven told Marc his brothers death wasn’t his fault, that really hit hard man.
same
11:36 Steven said to Marc "It’ll be all your fault" the words his mom always said to him. That and Marc not wanting to relive his trauma with Steven is prolly why he snapped like this, so sad.
The used his real life brother for a stand in when they need both of them on screen at the same time. I think they even listed him in the credits
So he just has a twin brother?
@@0duwa3d Just for the silhouette and stuff. Over the shoulder shots and all that. I don't think they are twins, they just have a very similar build.
Marc: *wakes up screaming all beat up in a mental asylum*
Dr. Harrow: "Hi diddly ho neighbourino!"
I've never rooted for someone to receive an award until I watched this episode. Amazing performance.
7:11 I knew the editor was gonna put Lupa's iconic "Open the door " line
Its crazy that the show snuck in Jake with nobody noticing. The beginning of the episode Marc had a bandage on his nose as if he broke it as well as having a different accent like maybe a Boston one and it leaves the scene but once they go back to the same area to continue the scene he doesn’t have the bandage on his face anymore because it’s Marc not Jake
I'm so tired of people not seeing this. The SECOND I saw the change I knew that was Jake. How are people missing this??
@@RabidDogma people don't be paying attention smh. Also when Marc is having an episode there was a cab in the background so I'm thinking that was another EE of Jake
who tf is Jake ??
I was wondering the same thing. Jake was in this episode but almost every reactor that I watch was like 'When is Jake going to appear?' I was like "HOW DID YOU MISS HIM?"
I like this theory, but why does Marc remember everything that happened in that scene with the bandaged nose and why doesn't he have an issue with Dr. Harrow calling him Marc if he's Jake? Additionally, Dr. Harrow's first words to Marc/Jake is "I didn't shoot you," a direct response to Marc's accusation at the end of ep 4
I'm all for this being Jake, I'm a little upset that it's taking so long for Jake to officially show up, but I'd just like this to be airtight
I love how Sheera pointed out that Wendy (Marc/Steven's mom) mentally broke due to the grief and then broke her child mentally through the abuse and anger. It really is a very sad (and sadly, very realistic) predicament but it's like the saying goes, "hurt people hurt people." And as a mother, I definitely understood her pain but was repulsed by her words and actions towards Marc. And Elias garners bare minimum sympathy from me: he lost a child, which rocked the foundation of his family and his home. That's completely understandable. But for him to allow his wife to alienate and abuse Marc for years and not try to get her help earlier makes him .5 of a step lower than her for me. She's your wife, of course, but as a parent you protect your children first and foremost no questions asked.
With DID when someone, usually a child, experiences repeated trauma that they can't cope with, their brain will create a sort of mental barrier in order to protect them in the form of an alter. Someone and/or something that can take that burden and be strong in a way that a child wouldn't be able to.
Marc couldn't handle the things his mother was doing and saying to him, or his own misguided belief that his brother's death was his fault, so he dissociated and in an effort to protect him his brain created someone that could handle it. In this case that someone was Steven Grant, someone his brain knew would, just like the poster says, "have no fear when danger is near".
Honestly man, this episode was phenomenal. It had me in tears during his breakdown with the reveal of his mother death.
I do wonder if Marc is in the field of reeds and Steven is stuck in the sands of the Duat, then will Jake be the one left in the body when Khonshu brings him back to life?
Thing is, there's only 1 episode left, how tf they gonna fit everything in for this season?
@the emo joker thing is there won't be a season 2, they confirmed it.
@@anthonyquesada1999 no they didnt
@@anthonyquesada1999 u literally just made that up 🤣 why wouldn’t there be a season 2
@@rorymcgechwue3162 when asked in an interview if there was gonna be a seaon 2, Oscar said "It’s very unlikely. This is basically confirmed that there won't be a season 2/they weren't planning on it. So no, I didn't just make this up...
Been waiting for this the whole day
This episode is PAIN
Huh. That little preview, of the little girl in episode 1, saying “and how did it feel, being rejected from the Field of Reeds?”. She was speaking to Steven, who of the two, didn’t make it to the Fields.
I heard that the third personality was the more aggressive side of marc that felt all the abuse from marcs mother while steven was the passive side that thought he had a loving mother and marc is the middle man
Heard the same & I think that's how it is also.
steven remembers the abuse which means he was present during it. its been established that majority of the time the 3 alters dont know whats happening when they're not present. and if jake is the aggressive one, he might have been made during the time he was a soldier. remember he got discharged for going awol. his time as a soldier and as a merc and maybe even as the avatar was violent enough that it makes me think that might be when jake came into being
@@adisaster8734 no he doesn’t remember the abuse. The scene is shot a little weird in way that makes it seem like it; but it’s not the case. Steven seems to occupy the fleeting space between Marc realizing what is going to happen and it actually happening, as a sort of tempting escape space where he can pretend he had a loving mother instead of one who’s about to beat him.
Jack
This is the best ep. and did something you never see right about split personality disorder. It's not about having a dark other half, it's about a person coping through trauma and trying to hide the abuse through their memories by creating somebody else to hold the pain or to live past the pain and not remember what occurred.
Correction- It isnt split personality disorder. Its Dissociative Identity Disorder or DID for short
@@crazydiamond8654 Yes, but most people will recognize split personality as the general term, even if its not the correct term of what it's called these days.
@@XC11301991 How does that make any sense. It is the wrong term for the condition hence you shouldnt use it. Look at the comment sections of this video and other Moon knight videos. Everyone uses DID. That was very rude
@@XC11301991 It's two different things.
@@crazydiamond8654 to be fair, the one who sounded rude was you. The person you were talking to was in no way being rude or disrespectful. They were just telling you whet they believed it was called. Was the term used incorrectly? Maybe so. You owe that person an apology for how you reacted.
It's ironic that even though this is the episode with the least moonknight action it's my favorite episode 🤣
About the mother, with that type of parent, is far easier for her to point out the blame at someone instead of moving on. Those negative feelings have nowhere to go except towards Marc. Neglect emotionally becomes physical abuse when those negative feelings grow. For Marc (and for the ones that also have that type of parents, like myself) the blame is justified because the fault it's always put on them and no one has told then otherwise. She didn't move on and didn't let Marc move one. Marc not going to her funeral didn't allow him to confront the fact that wasn't his fault. For most of his life, he believe wrongly that he was just a killer.
And add the father that didn't do enough, he was passive during this abuse, while not as bad as the mother, the father was allowing it to happen.
Agreed. Father should have divorced her ass a long time ago.
love how you are blaming the father & excusing the mother,
very nice
@@AcidiFy574 No.
I blame the father his part in the abuse, by being a mere observant, by not making sure Marc wasn't the receiving end of his mother's verbal and physical abuses.
I never said the mother's actions are excusable, is understandable why she is doing it, grief, guilt and the anger.
Understanding doesn't equal excuse/justify her.
What she did is unexcusable and is 100% wrong/unhealthy way to deal with those negative feelings.
@@AcidiFy574 poor reading comprehension lol
@@ma.2089 Nope
This episode was drama it's so heartbreaking shoutout for Isacc tho his acting is top tier and we finally know how Steven created and why,sad only 1 episode left for moon knight
episode actually made me shed a tear cuz i understood what bro was going through and why he created steven in the first place, oscars a goated actor
My interpretation is Marc & the 3rd persona took to the physical abuse, but they can't handle all the stress and negative emotions that came with it so the Steven persona was created without the memories of the abuse as a way to cope and escape. Through Steven they can live as if their mom loved them and the abuse didn't happen.
Thanos, Odin and Ego: We're the worst parents ever.
Marc's/Steven's Mom: Hold my wine.
Marc is out here living a life of pure pain bro. Giving Bucky and Wanda a run for their money.
Comparison is really not applicable since their pains are different from one another. Its just that moon knight did a really phenomenal job in showing marc's trauma and set the standard high for the viewers I guess.
Nah bro Bucky and Marc is above Wanda I won't even lie, Wanda didn't have to do what she did and did it to herself while marc and Bucky kinda didn't have a choice
@@yaboyjackiechan1483 A lot of Wanda's trauma wasn't her fault
@@trinitysampson4126 but at the end of the day everything that happened to Wanda during Wanda vision is her fault, stuff was in control in her life she messed it up, Bucky and Marc had 0 control whatsoever
Marc’s relationship with his mom kinda reminds me of Peacemaker’s relationship with his dad.
I noticed that too
Peacemaker's dad is a monster. Marc's mom is broken because her child died.
@@alphanerd7221 I know that. But still, a son dies and the parent directs all their anger and guilt and blame on their other son.
@@unforeseeable2.058 There is no indication that is the case with her. Also Marc is at fault for his brother dying. That's not some BS she made up to cope.
@@alphanerd7221 point is, both hold a grudge.
7:09 Oh gods that edit killed me haha, "OPEN THE DOOR" - *lupa's voice*
Those who know, know.
Yeah I caught that too so funny and edited nearly seamlessly
As soon as Marc yelled that, I was just waiting.
Marc breaking down on the street into Steven helping him forgive himself (really a part of him forgiving another part of himself) was one of the most emotional moments in the entire MCU and had me shedding tears.
I also thought the acting and editing were award worthy, loved the “Dr Harrow” scenes (and what it means that Marc has internalized Harrow as his psychiatrist), all the Egypt stuff, the bit about the Ancestral Planes being a Wakandan Royal’s way of viewing the afterlife, the music, the Khonshu scene (him announcing Marc as his “Moon Knight” was so hype), etc. Just a great episode of television.
Oscar Isaac's performance in this episode might be some of the best acting I've seen in the MCU other than Chadwick Boseman and Elizabeth Olsen. Marvel really been in their duffy with these TV Shows.
It's crazy to think there's only 1 episode left of MK and we haven't seen Jake yet.
My only bets are either the final episode is longer than the rest or s2 in works or something like that
i honestly hope it's a cliffhanger. I know we all hate cliffhangers but I can't see any other way to wrap up this plot arc without just rushing and not being satsifying
Jake was in this episode though. He was the one that wanted to attack the doctor.
Maybe there’s no Jake
Jake was the guy with the bandages on his face
I'm pretty certain Jake was the one with the bandage on his nose. He's likely the personality that experienced the beatings from his mother so he's built up a lot of rage and anger. Remember that Marc did say that Steven wasn't meant to see what his mother did. So if Marc didn't and Steven didn't, then Jake is the only one left.
There better be a season 2 or a movie or Imma break Ammit free too
unfortunately moon knight will not be getting a second season
@@kidwawvy lying
@@yamomspotatosalad818 i think the reason people are saying that is the nomination category is for shows with no continuation and oscar is only hired for this season, obviously they could renew his contract and change the category they go for but looks like they won't make another season (which is annoying bc this show slaps and is one of my favorite mcu series they have put out)
🤣🤣🤣
11:02 No skrt skrt for when Tawaret started whipping the boat. Damn lol. Amazing reaction as always and editor always great
I feel as if the Steven needing to be tossed overboard thing to balance the scales, was due to Marc acting as a neutral ground. He’s a bit of good and a bit of bad, and steven is pure and good. That sets off the balance by weighing more on one side than the other leaving the only way to balance that to be the addition of the bad. This addition would have to be Tyrone, the only personality that wasn’t let out of the tomb and the one that they know nothing of. The only way to balance the scales was by either removing Steven and neutralizing it, or adding Tyrone and neutralizing it that way.
I think that this is the best theory about the situation.

Roshi is the first reactor I've seen who caught on to that whole Ancestral Plane reference they did. Props
10:36 Marc's first transformation as Moon Knight 🌙 was _EPIC_ 🤯!!
Regarding the Ancestral Plane, its the place the past rulers/Black Panthers of Walanda go when they die. The panther goddess Bastet likely created it or presides over it. Fun fact, Bastet is also part of the Ennead.
all the emotions you feel when you watch this episode
What's crazy to me is that this also explains the Hulk's origins as well. Bruce Banner's father was abusive and even killed Bruce's mother, but since Bruce was small and weak he couldn't fight back. This led to him creating an imaginary friend who was big, strong, angry, and violent: someone who could be both an outlet for Bruce's anger and hate towards his father as well as a protector from his father's abuse. DID is a condition that doesn't typically manifest until adulthood, so when Bruce got exposed to gamma radiation, it basically triggered his DID for the first time and caused him to switch to the Hulk. That's why Hulk is the only one who can access the power of gamma radiation, because subconsciously Bruce sees himself as the powerless one while the Hulk is the big, strong protector.
Not the Hippopotamussy 😂💀
lmaooooooooooo
Marcs brother made a picture of a fish with one fin. Steve. had a fish with one fin. There was a boat at the bottom of the fish tank looking just like the boat they are on with the hippo. The bird skeleton that Steven steps on looks like khonshu in the comics Marc came into contact with khonshu as a boy and was basically groomed to become moon knight his entire life fracturing his mind over time. You notice how the accent change to a new York accent when he tried to kill Arthur. Remember he third sarcophagus and when they were on the roof and neither of them took responsibility for killing those guys.
I know it's four months from now but did yall remember from episode one where the little girl in the museum said to Steven "and did it hurt? When you didn't make it to the field of reeds?"
INSANE foreshadowing lol
I don't think you can "forget" a alter.
Steven is as real as Marc. Both had their own diff hearts and all.
No. Marc is real. Steven is Marc's delusion.
well DID is a real thing and they're mixing with fantasy so we'll see how they handle it
@@alphanerd7221 From what I know about Multiple Personality Disorder like Marc's kind which comes from a place of trying to escape abuse or trauma you can't really forget them or remove then. You can only work yourself into a place where you don't trigger them as much. Reducing the need for them etc.
@@GamerGrovyle Blah blah blah.
So much of this was on point with the Comic series by Jeff Lemire, from the colors Marc and Steven are wearing, the sedative sending Marc between two possible realities, Steven leaving marc Khonsu manipulating marc because he is "Broken", etc.
Ultimately the point is you aren't supposed to tell the difference between what real and what's not, much like Marc himself. Not even in the sense of a twist, but just in the grand scope of it all. In that comic run it doesn't really get answered and is left up in the air, i wonder if they will do something similar here.
Bro…been waiting for this reaction since yesterday. I ain’t gonna lie, started crying towards the end fr😭😭😭

Steven isn’t going to stay gone, the Steven hasn’t been truly integrated into Marc, it’s been ripped from him, his protector from the bad memories that Marc still needs. I’m sure that Marc can work something out with the Khonshu or Taweret to release Steven.

His mother dose.
I hope this isn't a "face your fears" lesson or something. Steven should come back in some way, moon knight is all about DID, they can't have a moon knight without DID.
True but Steven being gone doesn't cure Marc of DID. Plus, we know there's at least one other alter we haven't seen. The unopened sarcophagus & the voice change are bits of proof that there's at least a 3rd alter in the MCU.

Just when I thought I couldn’t come to love and care for a character as much as I did for Wanda in Wandavision, now I love Marc Spector AND Steven Grant just as much. I did not expect Moon Knight to make me cry as hard as episode 8 of Wandavision, but here I am, with a eyes red and raw from wiping tears away.
It’s easy to dismiss Steven as just a “stress ball” but no, he is as much of a person now as Marc. And I hope somehow he comes back.
Also Oscar Issac had better be nominated for best actor at the Emmy’s!!

On the plus side, Marc's parents didn't put the brothers in a pit in the front yard to fight for the entertainment of the neighbors.
this gave me WandaVision ep 8 vibes also, both my faves of each series (so far, who knows how the finale will be)
8:50 One of the things I really appreciated about this episode was how it also addressed the enabler in an abusive relationship. Usually if one parent is abusive, the other enables him or her by not protecting the child and even explaining away the abuse.
Marc didn’t kill laylas dad, he said it himself, bushman is the one that killed everyone

5:18 The reason they are the only ones in the boat is because they are the only recently dead people who believe in the ancient Egyptian gods...
That Domino's Pizza gag made me stop the video for a hot minute! I was so done

Oscar Issac needs an Emmy nomination for this show because his acting is so good. This episode was written so damn good and is an emotional roller-coaster
The most interesting thing about Moon knight is him dealing with his DID and switching back and forth to his different personalities
It has a lil action then I anticipated because it's a show called Moon Knight and we barely see Moon Knight but it also works once u realized that this isn't really a super hero type of show. It's more of an origin character study with some action than a heavy hitting action adventure series
This show just might be my favorite
Ngl I was bawling through this whole episode, it just hurt so damn much. Oscar is a phenomenal actor to express such pain like this.
I read about tawaret in Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan’s Egyptian series and spoiler alert, apparently according to the mythology she shouldn’t be wearing anything on her top, and yes, for some reason, the baby milkers are at her top for some reason. 🤣🤣🤣
Man as bad as Marc’s mom is, his father’s failure to protect him is worse.
NO. The mom was worse in every aspect. The dad was just really bad
Idiotic comment
Yo you already saw the third personality in action twice but didn't realise it.
The third personality was the one with the beaten face that tried to kill himself with the glass shard, notice the Chicago accent. It was the seconde therapy session with Harrow I believe.
The seconde time you saw him was as a kid when his mother was about to beat him with a belt and Marc switched personality.
The third personality Jake Lockley was Marcs first split up, he was the protector personality. Marc switched to Jake when he was about to get beaten by his mother so he wouldn't have to deal with that. That's why Jake became such a cold blooded killer, the only thing he ever knew was violence.
Great reaction by the way, big fan.
lupa hittin that bar in the beginning caught me so off guard made me spit my water
The fact that there are different after life's for each religion answers of my longest running questions. How can you be Christan or Jewish in a verse where literal gods wall among humans ? I'm glad they confirmed that detail it's really cool
And I much prefer this. Life is too colorful for death to be just one single thing. Plus there are religions in practice that are older then Christianity.
Khonshu: as my moon knight
Me (Peter griffin voice): he said it that’s the name he said it did you hear he said it
Oscar needs an Oscar for this performance.
I hope the finale doesn't feel rushed. I wish they'd add a few more episodes into these shows. 10 is a solid number.
The two alters that we have seen in a solid state are Steven and Marc However the statue in the Steven Grant movie had three faces in the End credits marc is shown with three faces in the beginning of the series when Steven walked by the mirror there are two reflections looking at him in a move independent of one another when he’s getting dressed in his suit there are three reflections when we see Young marc at first he is wearing solid colors until the scene where he’s getting abused there are three separate color palettes the light the dark and the in between
