Hi Scott, Old video, but wondering if you are aware if a Stinkor may have been dummied up for this line? The test shot style figure has the 200X head, flat plugged respirator, with the comic 2 pack Zodac feet. Everything else looks the same. Many thanks and thank you for your dedication to recording the history of this line.
For some reason I Can't definitively explain, the he-man figure from this 2-pack has always been my favorite of the classic he-man look. it always appealed to me with its aesthetics. maybe that yellow just gives it that extra POW!
I remember the He-Man/Superman and Luthor/Skeletor sitting on shelves forever and wondering if I would find them on discount as the other waves came and went but those sat and sat on shelf. Now I see them at Comic Cons for surprisingly high amounts. But I must say that Blue Merman and BA Faker are some of my favorite figures.
Thanks for covering this unique branch of this toy line! I missed my chance to get them @ TRU (Rest in Peace) & kind of kicked myself. I have the comic insert (possibly from DC's Amethyst book) & enjoyed the wacky goodness. And thanks to my local comic shop, I was able to get a bunch of the mini-posters for free (or very cheaply)- great art! Maybe one day well get to see more of those crossover sets (ala the DC in the MoTU style?).
Hi, Sco-I mean, Spector. Recently, RUclips surfaced your channel. Being the proud owner of the “He-Man Room” and two near-complete Masters of the Universe Classics MC collections (plus more MOTU lines), perusing Spector Creative was a must. I paused, “Could this be?” I continued, “No way.” My thumb darted straight to the playlist, “It is,” I shouted, “Toy Guru has a RUclips channel!” Questions rattled my cranium. How old is the channel? Are there recent posts? “Awesome.” I’d found my workweek’s content binge. Moreover, I was happy for you. Happy to see you active, positive, and still in the toy biz. Fast forward. After consuming a few cherry-picked vids and hearing you talk shop and toss out industry terms, I was even more thrilled for you, your the channel, and your new business. These were at retail right around the time I found out about MOTUC. I passed on the Superman/He-Man pack because He-Man didn't have the Power Sword. I really love that 2-pack She-Ra.
I'm just guessing but I think Hordak Vs. Cyborg would've been a way to appease/pander to the DC suits even more potently than a character like Red Tornado (which still would've been a good call for modern variant branding). It's just that DC seems to have pushing Cyborg hard for A-list status since the late-80s all the way up til now. And Hordak, having a cyborg aspect with the Filmation arm and all would've fit nicely in this "variant" toned line.
Batman and Man At Arms makes so much sense! I would have liked to have seen Joker with Skeletor and Lex Luther with Hordak instead, you have the two iconic laughs and the two mass tech guys.
If it’s “tough to get a retail line out there without content”, then why did Mattel never produce content? I’m genuinely curious, because they had an existing library of MOTU comics, and they never licensed MOTU to a comic company after MVCreations folded. Even with DC, they’ve had very limited content, but comics drives sales.
It just wasn't a company initiative at the time. They were fine with a collector line, but there was not a drive company wide to do content. The line was just too small.
