      One time I was home and took a single cop 1 hour to arrive and his excuse for being late was because another cop pulled someone over and they found ecstasy and cop said no threat when I asked.
      The following attempted break in I called and said I'm going to possibly murder because you aren't any help. It took 3 minutes for them to arrive. And cop told me how to get away with murder, ironically. I don't want to kill anyone. Just show up immediately when I call.
      The robbers also installed cameras to monitor anything of value.

    More chainsaw advice:
    Add ear protection, you 70 year old self will thank you.
    Consider the imaginary plane created by the bar to be a zone of potential injury. When the saw is at speed, it can kick back if the tip hits something. The saw will rotate so fast it will have hit you before you know what has happened if a body part has crossed that imaginary plane.
    Trees can kick back as well. Study where the vectors created by the compression and tension forces. Think of those vectors as arrows and don’t present them with a body part as a target.
    Consider reading a book like:
    Modern Lumberjacking: Felling Trees, Using the Right Tools, and Observing Vital Safety Techniques Kindle Edition
    by Len McDougall

    I definitely would NOT leave it parked there while youre gone.
    1. Its a wooded area that WILL bring in mice and wood rats.
    2. Even with the most watchful neighbors youre so far out in the woodsy area and the fact that the trailer would be hidden, its just enough time for someone to make a mad dash in, hook up and go. Even with a ball hitch lock thay could be gone in under 10 minutes.
    3. If youre going to leave it on the property, chenk as to how much your covered for theft. Make sure youre insured for theft, covering ALL the upgrades on your theft insurance.
    4. I would place a trail-cam from 6 angles facing the trailer and a heavy duty farm gate with a lock that can not be cut torched off to get to the trailer. Plus a ball hitch lock. But as i said #1 is your best choice.

      What's a party line phone?

    • @NavyGatorMyEye
      @NavyGatorMyEye Месяц назад +2

      @@greatestever8976 Party lines were shared phone lines with your local neighbors - as many as 10 homes on one party line. You still had your own phone number, but it had a unique ring tone. Occasionally you'd pick up the phone and someone would be talking from another home on the shared line. Other than for emergency, you had to wait until they got off the phone to use it. This used to be the most common type of phone service up until the 1970's. It was the only way for civilians to make a call during WWII. And it was way cheaper than owning your own dedicated line.

    • @NavyGatorMyEye
      @NavyGatorMyEye 5 дней назад

      @@greatestever8976 Lol! I never heard about the antenna trick on a cordless phone. Yes, you would often pick up and hear the other conversations, but it was not silent when you broke in. I remember a sound of some sort that alerted you to someone else being on, but we're talking a child's memory. It's surprising more examples of this weren't used in feature films. Pillow Talk with Doris Day and Rock Hudson from 1959 use it as a main plot feature, but it's been almost that long since I've seen the movie!

  • @nankavanagh
    @nankavanagh 2 месяца назад +94

    Coming from someone who has spent the last 3 years cutting hundreds of trees down in USFS campgrounds: 1) you should wear your helmet EVERY time. 2) Yes, you would be better with Husqvarna chaps because they do cover the junk, lol. 3) You should NOT use the chainsaw to actually fell the tree. If you're cutting more in the future, invest in some wedges. Cut the notch in the front to direct the tree, and the make the cut at the back, but don't cut all the way through. Hammer the wedges in and fell the tree that way.

    • @healthcoachrene7351
      @healthcoachrene7351 2 месяца назад +5

      Curious why? Is it a more controlled fall when using the wedges vs the chain saw?

    • @nankavanagh
      @nankavanagh 2 месяца назад +30

      @healthcoachrene7351 It's very much a more controlled felling. It is a slower process, but you can really direct the end location better, especially if you went slow during the wedge cutting and accounted for natural lean, any wind, and neighboring trees. You're more likely to end up with a barber chair if you use the saw to do the whole job, and you do not want that. I believe barber chair deaths rank up at the top of the list of tree felling accidents. Forestry is THE most dangerous job in the US. Rotting trees are unpredictable especially ones where the rot is hidden, trees can get hung up in neighboring trees - like Jordan experienced in this video - and using the excavator to push it down was smart. Trees can also roll onto a person while being limbed once they're on the ground, so you need to be careful there too. Also, if you're cutting and the saw gets pinched and the tree starts to fall, abandon the saw. While 9 times out of 10, the saw will be fine, especially a Stihl, the saw is replacable, you are not 🙏

    But on the driveway, gravel is expensive so consider super cheap ground asphalt. It's essentially repurposing and a green solution to ensure no muddy entry, plus if you're there only seasonally it's essential you have permanent ground covering. Though much added trouble, consider raising the drive six inches to help rain runoff. Imagine returning nine months later and you can't pull up to your home due to excessive mud and overgrowth! BTW once drive is finished don't run tractor thru anymore else risk destroying drive so plan out tractor usage.
    Also make preshaped plywood for covering Airstream windows in off-season to deter vandalism, however remote the possibility.
    I would seriously consider adding a ranch gate and wood fence to keep other vehicles out and be added deterrent.

Their choice is to pull the trailer out and find a dump station, or dig a small septic system near the wast disposal outlet to empty the tank. Water and solar are self explanatory. Either pull the trailer to water or bring water to the trailer.

    The spot next to the coffee shop was awesome too. With a few improvements, you could rent out that spot on Hipcamp or Harvest Host it for extra money/customers. And then you could rent out a space on your new land. It will be nice to have people watching your airstream if you have a cleaner turn over the two spaces.
    My friend does this with four spaces per night and profits $10,000 per month between the spaces and farm stand at the spots. A little old man drives to the 4 spots everyday to take the trash and refill wood/farm stands. He makes good money from the cleaning fees and wood sales.
    I love your new woods! I live in Oregon and am surrounded by trees. You two have started out strong with clearing the land. It’s a tough job that makes you appreciate the light that comes through. You will appreciate it even more during the next storm when you hear trees and branches falling all around your airstream. My dad’s rule was to clear a minimum of two tree heights around structures.

    • @alicecain4851
      @alicecain4851 2 месяца назад +3

      Yes.
      While they have the equipment, they need to clear out the underbrush away from all of the trees they do leave around where they plan to put the Airstream.
      For fire safety purposes, along with keeping places cleared for too many critters to easily hide.
      Human critters as well.

    I’m from Montreal and have loved Stowe since we were kids. My parents would bring us there and we’d camp. Then when I was older and working my sister and I would always treat ourselves to one night at the Von Trapp’s lodge in the Fall when the colors are spectacular. I haven’t been in Stowe for about 30 years since I now live in Chile but you’ve made me appreciate the Laurentian forest all over again…the canopy and then all the plants on the ground is just so beautiful. It will be great for your family to have a place to call home when you’ll be there. I am guessing you will not be there during the winter or if you are, how will you eat the camper up? Can’t wait to see more of Sadie’s forest. ❤

    Great video, hope you have good luck finishing the driveway. My brother worked as a logger for decades, a few years ago when he was about 70 years old, he cut down a tree and a dead branch overhead got broke off and fell, even though he always wore all his safety equipment, the helmet still didn't totally help, he broke many of the bones around his eye socket area, the boy didn't look good that's for sure. One other time he cut off a branch that was bent and under pressure and it was about 3" in diameter, it snapped up and hit him in the mouth and knocked his teeth and his upper jaw bone back about an inch, finally he got it all back in to place etc. He was proud of the fact that it didn't knock him out !! Point is you seem to be using your safety equipment , just don't ever slack from that, my brother might not still be with us if he hadn't had it on. I am in southern NH, so you are almost like neighbors!!!!

      Also, as they manage the woods around their home, they'll make it safer during fire season and clear out debris around trees to keep critters of all kinds away from their home.
      They'll be able to plant fruit and nut trees that'll do well in their zone.
