When I was a kid, early in my career, I was super frugal just in case I hated my job so much I had to quit. Fortunately that never happened but I was always financially prepared just in case. Now that I’m in my 60s the money I’d always set aside has grown to the point that I was able to retire a bit early, right at 60. The pot grew significantly.

I had a FI money account. I never considered my job to be that secure. It did come in handy when I became jobless with little notice. It got me to retirement.

    Never heard of F.I.N.E.
Love it so much. Such a healthier way to think of financial independence.

No one expects life emergencies while saving FU money. Start saving in your twenties for the first career change at 30. Rinse and repeat during your thirties.

I wonder how many FU money planners lost the dream after the past 4 years of inflation.

Feel like you’re using the term FU money and its popularity in pop culture and changing its definition so you can talk about it with the masses on this show. Feels like a cheap grab for views.
FU money is definitely $5MM+ where you can walk out of your job tomorrow and you’re perfectly well off for the rest of your life. It might even be more than $5MM to be honest but it definitely isn’t “I can walk out of here and look until I find a job I like better”

It's just a very crude expression for money that provides a financial cushion for life's shocks. It used to be called savings. Please don't encourage the use of the term. It merely main streams the vulgar.
