Sadly I cant tell what the other 2 games are, especially that second one haha, the third one might be some DnD game with the dragon on the cover - I think the first one may be 1987 Final Fantasy for the NES 🐸
@@RealVirtualFrog You're absolutely correct! The 1st (left) box is FF NES. I never saw it before. I was a computer gamer. Is that FF on the TV? That 3rd box (on the right) with the dragon on the cover is the one I was referring to as being Wizardry. It was a D&D-inspired game, for sure. I'm with you, that 2nd one is quite non-descript! Where did you get this clip from? I'd love to see the whole thing. Seems like a hoot. Seems much like one of those earlier, early-80s, D&D moral panic pieces.
Understanding this game means understanding it was made for the Mac in an age when there were few Mac games. It was developed to use the mouse, which of course is the best input device that all games should use. I shudder at the poor people who had to play ports of it with video game controllers.
Also I believe the brooms breaking into more brooms is a reference to the famous Disney animation The Sorcerer's Apprentice or the original poem its based on.
I remember playing this on someone's computer; I don't recall what computer but the game was in black and white. It was challenging and frustrating because you had to use a friggin keyboard for all these actions, but for being a PC game it was pretty good. I'm baffled that they made a port for the Genesis but didn't improve anything here. Even so, that game forever left an impression on me; I was enamored by what I could remember, and I wished I could play something like that again.
Worst official sega genisis game? Absolutely, but worst sega genisis game of all time is a pretty bold statement considering all of the russian bootlegs that came out for the system in the late 2000s and early 2010s, some of which are not just bad unintentionally but are literally made to troll the player like is the case with 'super mario world 64'
The game was designed for the Mac and thus to be played with a mouse. Even then, the controls were quite wonky. 84 rocks max likely is an homage to the year the Mac came out.
@@RealVirtualFrog 100%. The Genesis port is *known* to be the worst port. The dev(s) who ported it to the Genesis messed up the controls and the sounds very badly. Try the original Mac version. It was a landmark game, actually for 86.
@@RealVirtualFrog Once you get used to using the keyboard and mouse at the same time, the controls are solid on the Mac. But it's so different from any otther game, other than Beyond Dark Castle (which you should also try on a Mac, although the Amiga version is quite good, too.
Not related but I was actually surprised seeing the subscriber count on this channel, this is a very well put together video for a channel this small, keep it up!
Having played the original Mac version, I can confirm that it was excruciating to play there, too. The animation wasn't bad and it tried to have a sense of humor, but a game still has to be playable and fun or it's nothing.
I have never played this but it looks like the type of game to give me a stomach ache while questioning my entire life and probably my love of retro video games. Why am I sitting here playing this? The thought gives me depression.
@@Heike-- Good point, I think there was a later aftermarket model but it definitely didn't come with one. I just remember hearing about this game being built with a mouse in mind.
It's clearly a case of software engineers winning out over the playtesters. Cramming stupid and pointless mechanics that might (but probably wouldn't) work in another game, but make this one a bloated, nightmarish mess that no-one in their right mind would play. Apparently it was designed for a mouse and not a gamepad, hence the atrocious aiming on console versions.
Home Alone for the NES is much worse. Dark Castle is really bad. Even some of the worst Sega Genesis games are good. One of the greatest consoles of all time for that reason. They really didn't make bad games. Avoid Dark Castle.
At the beginning, on top of the TV on the right is the box for the first Wizardry game. What are the two games to its left, though?

First game is Final Fantasy, second is Dungeon Magic, and third is Wizardry
@@RealVirtualFrog Thanks! I will watch it! I remember those days (I started played D&D in 79 when I was 5).

That is a good theory, maybe the game developer isn't as insane as I thought 🐸
honestly if you see a broomstick enemy in a game you should assume it will pull a sorcerer's apprentice on you
I remember buying this game for my allowance and forcing myself to play it because it was what I had

I'd rather play the infamous arcade sequel to Castlevania, Haunted Castle over this crap. 🏰💩
It's so bad I just had to add it to my collection. 😂

Dark Castle for the genesis has got to be, the WORST VIDEOGAME, EVER MADE.
What was EA thinking when they designed and published this?!
I actually have fond memories of playing this (and the sequel) on the Macintosh… of course, I was 5 years old.
I had this game once. I sold it the next week.
I'm sorry for your suffering 🥲

I heard the c64 and other early PC versions were decent because you could use a mouse. Made the whole aiming thing way easier
The C-64 had a mouse? This game was originally out on Mac, which explains a lot.
