As someone who was raised in the lgbt community and was groomed and traumatized by the shit I was exposed to by them I really appreciate CJ for speaking out for kids. I wish someone would have spoken up for me as a kid. I don't care what people say. Protect your kids.
Sure, CJ made his point clumsily. And gender warriors / identity politics zealots can shoot the messenger all they want. But the message itself is one of concern about a cult-like ideology and the damage it does to kids and youth.

Metal bands used to upset people of varied genders, religions, ethnicity, sexual orientations, and political beliefs. Nowadays, the only people metal bands upset are metalheads.
I feel metal scene is becoming such a loveless scene where its not about unity when you like something and its more about provocative and if you say something against lgbtq or something that is not political correct people start cancel you although metal was a subculture that was meant to be about unity welcoming and respect also metal used to be a rebellous genre that is against social norms
Awesome TED talk! Appreciate your 'cojones' to do so, and in a humble and honest way. My two cents... We are in the era of "Guilty until proven Innocent" and not the other way around.
Preach on, brother!!! Ive been feeling the same way for what feels like a decade now... everybody wants to flag everyone else for saying anything "outside the lines", but that is ALSO opinion!! That's the same as saying "your opinion is wrong, but mine is right!" Isn't that what we're trying to het away from as a society?!?!
Good content brother! Somebody was finally brave enough to tackle this issue. Metal can't be canceled. Woke bandmembers may fall victim to it, but true Metalheads will still follow a bunch of bands who's moral, religious, and political stance's don't match their own. I love a lot of bands who's members may conflict with my belief system be it through their lyrics or their personal choices in life. I also listen to a lot of punk bands that are extreme leftists (I.E. Leftover Crack) who's lyrics and lifestyles are a far cry from my own. So what! I don't believe that my way of seeing things is the one true way. People are different. I fully embrace differences be them politically, religious or other peoples personal choices. These woke people are intolerant hypocrites. Be woke all you want, just stop trying to brutally force your beliefs on the rest of us.
BASED take, worst thing ever happened to metal, im no wizard but I predicted this, the loudest voices get amplified, and the combination of streaming plataforms and lockdown makes everyone stick in their lanes, and sac their friends for money and clout, it happened to every influencer and of course spilled into metal eventually.
i respect your beliefs @DjentBeard. do i agree with them all probably not. im a very hardcore Christian that loves metal. as a metal community we need to rally around eachother and respect others beliefs and opinions regardless of whether we agree or not. im of the belief of if your not physically hurting someone leave them alone. love you and hail metal
My source for Alice Cooper was wrong. Alice Cooper spoke on transgender care out of concern for the youth, not out of religion. Please don't cancel me.
I think social media to some extent has made some people so self centered that they can only make or consume music they morally agree with, and stupid enough to think because the band write such horrible lyrics that they must be a potential rapist or nazi. It is as though we are going back to the way it was in the 1970s -1980s with Judas Priest sitting in court.
Thank you Djent for addressing this situation. Regards from a 52 y o metal fan from Moscow! Stand a 100% by what you said about modern metal scene getting all soy and degenerate through adhering to pc dictatorship.
He should go completely independent, we all know that it wasn't the band that got him kicked out but the "higher ups" that dictate everything around the record company.
This is going to be a long comment so skip if you don't want to read. I am a trans person. Knew pretty much my whole life I was born with the wrong parts. Came out as trans once I knew what transgender was and have had surgery since. I am pissed that people want to put laws into place that restrict or outright ban my ability to get the medical care I need. I will say I agree to a certain level that the LGBTQ+ is partly to blame as well. I fully believe we need to push for equal rights and protections, but I know there is a select few in the community that do more harm by, as you said, shoving it down peoples throats. The hypocrisy in the community upsets me so much. I just want to live in a country where I have full rights and protections without people sayin I am disgusting and deserve to be burned for being myself. And I will also add that no one is forcing kids to get surgery and drag queens aren't predators. If people would take the 5-10 minutes to actually research this, they'd see its just bullshit lies to push the mostly religious-conservative narrative that it should be banned. (THOUGH there are maybe a handful of cases that I have read about parents forcing it on their kids for whatever reason but that's a SUPER RARE thing and I don't believe any kid even got surgeries or hormones. I could be wrong so feel free to POLITELY correct me if I am wrong.) That being said, on the topic of Thy Art firing CJ, I am split on the issue. People have the rights to their opinions as long as their opinions aren't bigotry or wishing harm/death to someone else, say what you want. I also feel like a lot of celebrities fail to realize that they are more seen than the average person. They have a large audience and sometimes that audience will disagree with their opinions. And most certainly someone can't predict or control how others feel about a statement. I know I will have people who agree and disagree with what I say here and that's okay. While I think as a whole its sad for someone to lose their job over their opinions, in CJ's case, I wonder if he took a moment to think about pressing post. The hate transgender and gender-nonconforming people are getting right now is honestly unwarranted. It's the hot-button item right now so of course everyone wants to put their 2 cents in. But there is a better way to go about saying it. I know CJ will never see this but I genuinely hope he will look into things more than just a surface level to get a full understanding of the transgender community and what we deal with. If his genuine concern was for kids, I'm glad but as I said way earlier, it pretty much doesn't happen. We just want to be able to be ourselves without someone hurling garbage at us. Anyways, thanks to those that read this essay. Hope your days and nights go well
I have read your entirecomment, and am not gonna speak on most of it, since i myself am not trans, and therefore not in a position to do so. But what i can speak on, is what CJ said. What he said was brutal and yes, maybe not for social media, BUT he did NOT target trans people. I want to make that very very clear. I personally feel that something as sensitive as being trans or the posibility of, should not be brough upon kids that can't even form full sentences yet.
@@DjentBeard I totally agree LGBTQ+ issues as a whole shouldn't be brought up until an age where the kid can understand it. If they ask, try explaining in terms they get or just tell them "When you are older and can understand better." Like I wouldn't tell a 5 year old what the Holocaust was. Some topics are more suited for certain ages.
Metal has always been the playground for the weirdos. I don't say that as an insult. As a teen female in the 80s,I was safer and treated with respect at thrash metal shows. I went to Rollins Band shows (89-91) with my best friend, and we were the only girls in the pit,up front, at small clubs, to the point that Henry recognized us and had a female friend keep half an eye on us. But we were fine. Rob Halford was in the closet for years, and Lemmy would spit on cancel culture. I saw Metallica w/ Cliff Burton open for Ozzy and the whole stadium seats were pulled apart and thrown all over, just totalled and we had a great time. Ozzy was asked about it the next day and he laughed and said he'd pay for the damage ! And this was 1986. My brother is five years younger than me and saw what I wore to high school... my denim jacket with a Judas Priest patch on the back. To my college prep courses. He listened to what I was listening to, and then started playing bass. He's the one who was a bouncer at a strip club, and who got me into Gojira. And I'm from New Jersey, a bridge and tunnel girl who went to NYC for shows. My brother knew one of my best friends was a gay male, and he also knew my friends were a mixed bag of people, because I was not a groupie but I had friends who were, I was not about giant hair and bustiers... I loved L7 (and still do). I only found out about Thy Art Is Murder from the Slaves Beyond Death video of a live show that is hilarious and I wanted to be in that pit !!! The biggest and best thing about metal is it has always been a place for humor as well as political commentary ... my brother's school principal told him he could not wear his Metallica Metal Up Your Ass teeshirt *the toilet with the knife sticking up out of it*, and my brother worked at a gas station and bought his clothing. He told his principal, ":listen, mister, when you buy my clothes you can tell me what to wear" ... which this adult thought my parents should come in for a chat about. My brother was just wearing a teeshirt at school, he wasn't making a statement other than he was a Metallica fan and it was to him a funny shirt. So my parents went and said they were fine with his shirt and were fine with their kids listening to whatever music, reading whatever we wanted (my brother had dyslexia, so for me it was read but Mark it was music and taking apart engines). Really puzzled the guy, but my dad was proud of my brother for saying what he said. My brother is not a big talker. He is, however, a father of a nine year old girl who is really doing well in martial arts and competing, and is a big Gojira fan, and also older stuff, because as a teen my brother was Beavis on a Cornholio bender 24-7. He went to see White Zombie tripping on acid with his best friend and they were rolling around on the floor .. just laughing and nobody was bothering them, in fact, many people up front were also just enjoying themselves. My brother loved Sean (the female bassist) and ended up getting the same bass she played. Ignorance and Fascism go hand in hand, and they have no sense of humor, satire, catharsis, or a feeling of community based on mutual like of a band or a book or a movie... or women wanting to have birth control, men wanting to be who they are and not try to pretend they re something they're not. Pantera was a BIG ONE for me and my brother, especially Walk. Just play it and listen to the song. Pantera now is just Anselmo trying to make a buck, but Zakk is there out of love for Dimebag. Who is right ? Man, I don't know, Iiked Metallica and Megadeth, still love Anthrax, and now love Jinjer and Clutch. "YOU CAN'T BE SOMETHING YOU'RE NOT / BE YOURSELF BY YOURSELF STAY AWAY FROM ME". Respect. Walk. Are you talking to me ? Walk on home, boy... My rant. Cancel culture can suck my left one.

@thedarkapex5327 woke in its meaning today IS the tyranny. They don't want you to notice patterns, speak your mind or believe differently from them. Woke is the problem, not being political.
It's an interesting topic because "cancel culture" is literally just a by-product of "people having their own opinions." Like if you say some shit that a lot of people dont agree with or got offended by, you are going to have to deal with their opinions on what you said. It's not just a one way street. That being said, I hate when people actively gun for the jobs or livelyhood of a person and try to get them fired. That being said, if you say some shit like "you arent a man unless you eat pussy" is going to get some flak from the gay community. And they are gonna spread it around. Or if you make comments that make it seem like you arent for trans people or discussions around them, then you are gonna get flak from people who are trying to make the world more inclusive. I think I fundamentally disagree with you on the whole "if what I said doesn't target you, then shut up" mentality. We are living in an age where people are more connected with each other and are finding out how much getting bullied, ridiculed, not having your existence being respected, etc can fuck with the development in people (blacks in america, lgbtq, trans, autistic, whatever). Saying "nothing you can do will change that" is just kinda BS because that completely ignores all the progress society has made for being more accepting of people and just serves to keep status quo. A lot of that work was done by people who arent in those groups but are speaking up for them since they are such a minority who have historically been ignored and dismissed. To say that just existing and asking for people to validate your existence is not "jamming your ideas down your throat." You said it yourself, it's important to have conversations like this. But apparently for some folks, seeing a minority group get some attention for once = "they're shoving their ideology down my windpipe waaah" as if we havent been enjoying the same attention (at the expense of others) for decades and decades. I'm sorry for the long post. Wanted to write it out in a way that hopefully doesn't feel aggressive or whatever. I feel like half the problem nowadays is that shit has become so polarized that anything to do with peoples rights and inclusivity is now deemed "woke". Just feels like a cop out so people dont have those conversations. Same with leftists completely making sweeping statements about the right, like if someone is for less strict gun control, suddenly theyre some fascist or whatever else. It's not that simple and people are too up their own asses to make smart conversations about this stuff.
@@Ridgegetsreal777 see that's the kind of generalization(completely not true BTW. I've seen hundreds of videos of people on the right show a complete lack of respect / understanding of topics) tell ourselves to keep from having a conversation about anything. Going along the whole "Everyone is allowed an opinion" comment, you're right. And everyone is allowed to react to it how they want. CJ, by the looks of it, was a piece of shit in person towards the band as well. He was free to make his awful comment. The band is free to drop him because of it. At the end of the day, this is how the real world works, it's not a by-product of some "cancel culture" (which isn't actually real anyways). Make disgusting remarks, prepare for the consequences. And TAIM will be fine, there's at least 5 other vocalists that have monotone mid-ranged vocals that they can replace him with.
but.. but... but... :( my opinions ... not my opinions :( ... anything but my opinions :( - fans relate to their music and when artists make their opinions known like that, they alienate their following. It's almost like they dont understand that a full spectrum of people are fans, and the angry woke people arent coming for them, they were already there in the room, they used to be fans and related to the music. Their anger is closer to betrayal than vindication - you think youre hard until the gays come for you, this is the lesson. Real lesson would be more just stfu and stick to music mate and vice versa.
Complaining about wokeness, especially in context of defending a band with a whole anti religion album. “Die for Christ, die for Allah, die for Jerusalem, die for Torah”. Anti wokeness seems like it comes from a religious standpoint. And the band said that cj was trying to take it down, so regardless of what he believed, that is unacceptable
freedom of speech seems everyone has forgotten that. ill have my opinion's and really dnt care wht anyone thinks. anything tht anyone says is not gonna hurt anyone as much as the reactions of the offended it seems.... my feelings got hurt oh noooo....thts fuckin stupid as hell lol.
While I believe his choice of words was a huge error in judgment, I do agree on his stance. Children that young cannot make a choice on whether they are trans or not, and especially should not have any procedures before adulthood to change genders. Even most transgender people agree with me on this. Im apart of the 🏳️🌈 community myself, but there are limits to everything. I have 3 small children, and I dont believe they have the mental capability to make a choice like that. But if they chose to transition later in life (adulthood) or they were gay, I would be supportive. I do believe there were other issues in the band besides his online post, like the band said, and maybe this unwanted attention was what lead to his dismissal, but Im sure he would have been cancelled anyway due to the backlash.
Unfortunately people are too sensitive to allow others to have their own opinions I could give a thesis on this topic as I have lived it

Awesome TED talk! Appreciate your 'cojones' to do so, and in a humble and honest way. My two cents...

Awesome man, you nailed it, thank you for speaking your mind on this.

We went to metal to escape from the bullshit of society and metal says fuck you to that, now it's joining the woke movement. Really sad.
So nice to see someone address all this

Off topic question: If People of better being a certain way I’m speaking gay or trans than who are you to judge them ?
Great point of view!!! Greetings from Bolivia 🇧🇴!!!

It's not 50 50 tho. The right respects the lefts views and puts politics aside, the left can't do the same
@@Ridgegetsreal777 see that's the kind of generalization(completely not true BTW. metal is and has always been polarizing and it his always been about rebelling against social constructs. that's why it's metal. it's just a heavier form of punk music. hardcore is where punk meets metal in the middle. all that said, this video was fantastic. you deserve more subscribers and you just got one. 😎
I love when metal bands are awake... not woke ... huge differences in those. Molotov Solution would fall in that category of being awake. Nonstop truths. I heard theyre releasing new stuff maybe. Hopefully they stay with ths common sense lyrics and not go woke social justiceyy...
Forcing someone to bend at the knees it's not inclusion, it's confusion. Great follow up bossman
Ayyy! Learn about marxism and you will see its just that! Confusion by design
this is why I dont listen to metal music in the usa and I live here . I got for my music in other countries . they are normal. Metal = anti establishment
Life's tough, get a helmet!
Interesting message dude, quite libertarian (the part about minding your business and not trying to shove it down people's throats).
Cancel culture isn't real 😂 don't be a liar all of your life.
4 rules of real men was before Alex terrible reviewed sleep token
but.. but...
The world would be better off being anti-religious instead of having woke culture shoved down their throat, so no. You´re wrong.
Thy art is murder is the shit
freedom of speech seems everyone has forgotten that. ill have my opinion's and really dnt care wht anyone thinks.
anything tht anyone says is not gonna hurt anyone as much as the reactions of the offended it seems.... my feelings got hurt oh noooo....thts fuckin stupid as hell lol.
Peste Noire would never become woke lol
Not very metal to give a shit what soft people think
Not very metal to care about people in general
