Last time I was in Israel I stayed on Mt Gerizim and visited the Samaritan town there, meeting the Samaritan high priest at their museum. They are very friendly people and consider themselves more Jewish than the Jews. They can also still read the ancient Hebrew script. There are only a few hundred of them left, there and near Tel Aviv.
