i love how you kept the mistakes in, it helps practicing artists to realise art is not always going to be a smooth sail and everyone makes mistakes and that its okay!! :)) lovely work btw!!
On the outlining part your pen wasn't the problem, gouache tends to dry the tip of the pen making it seem like your pen is shit when it's not the case.
May I know if it’s the same with acrylics or watercolor? I noticed it also happens with colored pencils :( do you know if there’s a way to fix a dry tip?
@@petitluna2571 not sure if this would work for on to0 of the paint but you can heat up the tip of the pencil to make it a bit creamier I’m pretty sure or it might’ve been to soak them in water I’m not sure but one of those could work :)
This video made me calm down tbh, I was just at Walmart when this came out and I have severe anxiety. Whenever I watch people paint, Draw, sculptor or even sew. It makes me calm and this made my anxiety go away 70%, I love the paint especially Ghibli Studies is my favorite type of anime. I hope you are doing well, wear masks! and make sure to keep 6ft away!
I bought this paint awhile ago! I love it I’ve had it for 2 years and it still works I paint around 5 times each month I have run out of 1 pack of white but if you paint ever hardens don’t worry water should re-activate it :)
You can totally refill your “disposable” microns when they’re dry with India Ink, over and over, which is cheap as chips and waterproof and goes over gouache. Don’t even worry about if they’ll get ruined, you were going to throw them out anyways, weren’t you? 😜 Check TheFrugalCrafter’s video or others on how to do it if you want (but just use some pliers on the top silver nib, pops it off, drip the ink in and close, it’s easy as pie!) 🤗🤗🤗 Or.... just get the India ink and use a dip/calligraphy 🖊 pen and nib... you’ll love it and be so good at it with your style... and it’s also pretty cheap to buy the basic supplies 🤗🤗🤗
When you went to add the varnish I actually winced haha. Just cause I know gouache reactivates with moisture! You can find spray varnishes that work better for gouache :)
Amazing! I'm getting himi jelly gouache as well! So I'm looking for some inspiration and seeing if it's worth it and after seeing this I feel like its gonna be perfect!! I definitely learned some tricks and one I wont forget is don't put varnish on it-
Your videos are such a positive bright light. Keep shining and showing the beauty you create. May you and yours stay healthy and happy. Thank you very much. You are lovely.
whoaa!!! the painting part was seriously soo soothing, i kinda love the detailing part very much, coz that's the part when we realize that we literally completed the painting and just a lil detail, and voila!! it's done :D
i loved this video so much!! and the outlining part is always the most stressful part for me ;-; but you managed to do it very well!! this video made my day, so i hope you have a nice day as well🎐🌺
This was really relaxing to watch! For me, acrylic paints are one of my least favourite mediums- I’ve never had good experiences using them, and they dry too fast for me to be able to blend colours together. Seeing the way this gouache ‘behaves’ in this painting has made me wonder what it would be like working with them. How long do you have to work into them before they dry (on the paper/ palette?). How are they to blend (I know this Ghibli piece doesn’t have much blending in it, but if anyone else has experience with the medium it would be great to hear what you thought of it) :D
Alright so, jelly gouache like this definitely dries faster than acrylic paint. However, I find that gouache is a very forgiving medium, and it blends nicely seeing as it is water based. With acrylic, after it dries you can no longer work with it, but with gouache, much like water color, you can reactivate it at any time. You can also thin it out with a lot of water (giving it a watercolor look) or you can use much less water and get a very opaque look similar to that of acrylic. Also it dries matte unlike acrylic. Hope this helps and that I answered your question!
@@annamarie1824 Thank you so much for your reply! Yes, this really does help! I'm willing to give it a go then, hearing it is a forgiving medium has reassured me, and I also prefer matte finishes so this may be a good swap then! Thank you so much :)
i came to check up an update after a month and im happy i found this even though im 3 weeks late. i just watched spirited away yesterday and ive been obsessed with it, im not really into animated movies so i havent watched it before, i really wish i have watched it sooner- and i really cant believe you actually posted something about spirited away:)) i really am excited for more since you're the best! lots of love
I loved this video! So soothing. My only problem was the dirty paint when dipping the spatula 😖 please clean it before dipping for new paint to keep them as vibrant as ever
Ok I was actually painting with you. Like you were painting and I was watercolor painting I thought it was fun honestly. I know you weren’t even there, but it was entertaining to have you with me!
Hey :) I use gouache a lot too and I've had similar problems. Varnishing gouache this thick doesn't work, the varnish reactives the paint :). A thin layer of spray-on might work, but test it on the pen first to see if it makes the lines bleed. About the pen, it doesn't suck, it just struggles with the fine gouache pigments that clog up the tip. Try using not a pigment pen like that but rather a felt tipped one (by edding f ex) that doesn't clog up as quickly :)
Hi ! I'm an artist and I wanted to clarify/explain details that were either not mentioned in the video or false 😊. Note that Miya Himi jelly gouache isn't really gouache. In fact it's called acrylic gouache or acryla, as it has an acrylic binder, wich makes it react differently than reagular gouache. That means that yes, you can indeed create layers with acryla since it can't be reactivated using water, just like acrylic paint. I believe that you can also create layers with regular gouache, but it is way trickier since you could reactivate the first layer by accident. I also would like to mention that when it comes to drying, not all colors dry darker. Lighter colors dry darker and darker colors dry lighter. Feel free to correct me or to had to my comment if you think it is necessary 😊!
Espero que em algum lugar deste vasto universo exista uma versão minha artista, assim me sinto na expectativa que ela seja tão boa quanto você. Muito lindo 🐥💛
BTW, if you’re ever drawing ghibli art and you accidentally spill/smudge some black paint on it, just give it some eyes and say it’s a dust bunny! Love the vid 😊

ohh i see, thankyou sm for the tips!🥺❤️
true, that's why i usually outline with the paint itself even though that's very tough...
