Yup not even truly "solo" I went on a cruise last summer with my family and I got slammed because I was a single traveler just to have my own room.. so not fair
Solo travellers aren't targeted to spend more money because they're travelling alone, that's the economics of how the pricing works. I own a tour company, we put together and sell tours. Our prices are based on double occupancy. To get that price we take all the expenses, divide them in two, and that's what each person pays. When you're a solo traveller it's not like the tour's expenses are lower. To put it another way: If you book a hotel room that's $100, and there are two of you sharing it, then you each contribute $50. But if you book that same hotel room and it's just you then you're not going to be able to just pay half the rate.
@@annette069 It's just so irritating to be planning a cruise (or other getaway) and be drawn in by a nice, low price, only to see later the itty-bitty addendum (Per Person, Double Occupancy). annette069 well, that’s one way of phrasing it if you own the business. For the consumer it’s because one person isn’t going to spend as much money as two people. You’re talking about halfing the cost of the room but what business sees is half the number of wallets in the room. In this case, the cruise ship makes most of its money by having you spend money after you’re already on the boat. The ticket price itself is nothing. One person in a cabin means they lose money on another person not being there to spend, so they slam you up front to discourage it from happening. If they could, they’d pack 5 people in that room.
I’m glad you kept mentioning “studio balcony solo cabin” because when you went on this cruise - I checked the RCCL website to see what the price would be & couldn’t find these cabins because I searched for solo cabins (not studio balcony)! Windows and doors are rounded because they're stronger than square corners and are better at withstanding strong winds. The airliners have this also due to the drastic pressure changes. I might have to try that solo cabin with a balcony. Good review.
Thank you for staying in and showing this cabin. I only know of RCI that does this for the solo traveler. 👍🏼 Wish the other lines would follow suit!!! 😳
The irritating point to this (some hotel rooms are the same) to me is that then I can’t charge any of my electronics while I’m not in the room so that when I get back to my room everything will be unusable because it/they need charging! Some hotels will give you an extra card to leave inside the room ... will the ship?

Thank you so much for posting this video. I just booked a studio balcony and was wondering just how small it will be. Your video eased my mind about that.
I loved it! Congrats on getting one of these booked. I've been contacted by so many people since posting this video saying that they are always booked out so long in advance.
I sailed Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas in their Super Studio Cabin 7648 in May '16. Look this up on the RCL Anthem Deck 7 Plan. The balcony in this video is normal. Cabin 7648 is HUGE - seems as large as the cabin itself - not really but it is so much larger than most ocean view balconies. Since the side of the ship is not perfectly straight, the jog in and out creates some wonderful balcony spaces. Ask for 7648 Super Studio Ocean View w/Balcony on the Quantum and Anthem ships.
I recently cruised Carnival for the first time with my mom, my sister, and my three year old nephew all sharing one room with one bed. They told us before we booked our stateroom that we would be able to request a pack-n-play for my nephew once we boarded, and that there would be enough room to have it set up comfortably. They also told us there would be two twin beds that we could either push together to make a queen or leave apart for two separate beds. They also said there was a pullout couch for the third adult. However, Upon boarding, carnival told us there were no pack-n-plays.. like ever. We also quickly realized there was no way to pull the twin beds apart because the nightstands on either side were fixed to the wall and floor. We also discovered the couch was not a pullout. However, there was a very sketchy cot that pulled down from the ceiling and they provided a ladder to climb up. We ended up with my sister and my nephew taking the bed, my mom sleeping on the couch and me sleeping in the “loft” (aka the prison cot). It was miserable and we were totally misled. My nephew got no sleep because he’s used to being in a crib or pack n play... so we had a sleep deprived monster of a toddler in tow for the entirety of the cruise. I think I’m only gonna cruise with royal Caribbean from now on. Food and entertainment was better with RC anyways.
Morgan, glad your solo only because of work, also went on this ship with my wife and grandson, and it was made for dark, gloomy, stormy days. Not I but this ship has gone through some big storms and no real damage, not even the giraffe by the pool. Fantastic ship for all of us individually and together as a family. I’m waiting for the Royal Caribbean resort island to be finished before I go on the Anthem again, but I realize I might feel cheated if I don’t go sooner.
I know I am posting to an old video, but it surprises me you were able to book a solo cabin on a week's notice. Everything I have read says they sell out quickly.
I actually think I would love it as a solo traveler. I think the only thing I'd really miss is a proper chair with a back to use inside, so you could watch TV without sitting on the bed, or use that desk. But I guess you can bring in one of the balcony chairs to use - who's gonna know but you!
Hi Valerie, I think I paid around $1600 for this cruise, but I booked it one week before departure! If you check the Royal Caribbean website or get in touch with a travel agent, you can find out current prices and deals.
