If you're into fashion you'll definitely love them even more since all of them are ambassadors/muses of high fashion brands. Jennie is a chanel ambassador, lisa is celine's muse and she's working with prada, jisoo is dior beauty ambassador and rosé is soon to be YSL's ambassador/muse.

Blackpink is so popular because they are different from other kpop girl groups. Their styles are edgy (black) and elegant (pink) and doesn't have kidlike/cutesy songs in their albums. Their confidence is straight up empowering and you'll get more in love with them because of their personality off stage. Like they are totally different person on stage.

They were all signed between 2010-2012 when they were 14-16 years old. After that they trained for SIX YEARS (normal training is an average of two to four years). They trained in Vocal, Dance and Rap for Twelve hours a day, Seven days a week, only one day off every two weeks. On top of that Rosé and Lisa left their countries and families and rarely saw them. When they finally debuted both of their debut songs became instant record-breaking hits, no one could believe that they were "rookies" (which is the term used for a new group) as their stage presence and talent were impressive. Good stuff, Blackpink is probably the most accessible k-pop girl group in the west right now. It helps a lot that most of the members are fluent in English. Their best English cover is probably Sure Thing by Miguel. Highly recommended along with their releases and Coachella performances.
I myself am still new into KPOP but Blackpink introduced me into it KPOP and the rest is history. I stumbled upon Blackpink since early last year and I’m obsessed with them. I’ll explain what I know so far about BLACKPINK (please like this so i know you read it) and also suggest for you more videos like this to react to at the end that relates to BLACKPINK. BTW english isn't my first language so please excuse my horrible grammar and punctation or even spelling mistakes anyways: Before their debut they trained under YG entertainment with Jennie being the longest trainee staying their for 6years thats why she got the first solo. After Jennie's solo its Rosé even though she was the last out of the four to join YG entertainment and then Lisa's solo and then Jisoo's solo. This year they published their first album and after Coachella it was a good time to do their first world tour. Their is also a video before their debut of them dancing that went viral and in that video people were obsessed with the blond girl who was dancing because she was soo good and that was Lisa and so she is the lead/main (idk the difference) dancer. But even before they released their first album this year they won awards and even though in asian especially Korea its known in their culture to be cute and feminine like many girl KPOP groups for example twice and Red velvet so what sets BLACKPINK different from other KPOP girl groups is that they are badass but also cute and women as a women you feel empowered by listening to them but males can also enjoy their music which is why they are the revolution. "Black" in BLACKPINK stands for their badass personalities and a great example is "Kill this love" and "Pink" in BLACKPINK stands for their cuteness and a great example is " as if it's your last" and so even though they are badass women their still cute and (BL) from black + (INK) from pink = (BLINK) . wohoo, more blackpink :) this is the perfect "first guide" because you get the basics like the names. Great next step would be "Journey and Friendship" (my favourite Blackpink fanguide) or the "unhelpful guide 2019 version" (mostly a funny compilation of the different personality quirks of the members). Also, K-Pop idols often vlog (most common on vlife, a korean website created for that reason, so k-pop artists can interact and stream to their fans whenever they want), different reality tv show formats and of course they promote new releases in weird korean tv / gaming shows. They also publish dance practice videos for their music videos, so fans can learn the full choreography. So there is a lot of material outside their stage performances which gives you a great sense of their personalities and how they live their daily lives. For Blackpink I would HIGHLY suggest Blackpink Diaries which follows them on their recent world tour. Lots of entertaining insights into the tour and their personalities. You will quickly fall in love with the members itself instead of "just" the music. They are not Limited to Korean as every member can speak atleast 4 different languages and Lisa being the language genius can speak upto 5 different languages now that chinese is included in her list.I would highly recommend checking out the Blackpink Journey and friendship and this video was before their Kill this Love Mini album comeback. So they have a total of 13 songs and if you add up the solo and collab songs and a remix its 16 songs in total.

I tried to force myself to like boy groups in 2018, liked some songs but not enough to consider myself a fan. In early 2019 I watched ‘Kill This Love’ M/V and it SNAPPED.
You should “kill this love” first since it’s their most recent then jump to their debut songs “whistle” and “boombyah” and work your way back so you’re fully up to date with them. You should also watch “blackpink house” it’s their reality show
I would say start with the unhelpful guide and then probably Boombayah and Whistle. That should give you a pretty good idea on why they got so popular. They also have a few more things that aren't on albums so I feel like they aren't as well known. I'll give you a few of my favorites that aren't on albums. The covers of Clarity, So Hot, and Sure Thing are amazing. Ohh and Yuki No Hana. There's a lot and it's all incredible.
You should react to their cover of Sure Thing by Miguel. It's a song they performed as trainees and received high praises for from YG. Jennie amd Lisa wrote the rap part they perform at the end of the song. It really shows their versatility, and their ability to harmonize. And its all in english, which makes it more amazing because Jisoo at the time did not know very much English.

I'm not into KPOP really but when I saw Lisa's popularity. I got curious so much and I came to be a fan of her and that turned me into loving all the girls. I became a blink and Lisa being shipped with a BTS member led me to watch BTS as well so now I am both Army and Blink.
you should react their all MV and sure things cover by miguel. from there you will know why they are the biggest kpop Girl group right now. they are talented and unique. each members have different voices and styles. you can easily differentiate them.
BLACKPINK became popular because of the colors of their songs, and their beauty. They have western sounds and their concept is darker and badass. I love my girls and I really think they have potential, but sadly YG doesn’t treat well their female idols. They are rarely in the recording studio, and don’t have a lot of involvement in their songs, but I think it’s because of their company. It’s sad that YG don’t let them grow as artists. Blinks have to make projects to make the girls have a comeback and a full album because YG takes a lot of time to release something new of them. Now, the girls are more into modeling and signing contracts with different brands than being the idols they are. What YG is doing to them is completely awful.

well this is from a purely business perspective, Blackpink, got so big, because they are from YG (the promotion part), they deliver extremely high quality in production (the Teddy part, dude is a Legend of Kpop been producing Hits since 1998, even the west noticed Him and offered him jobs, he has his own sublabel in YG called The Black Label, so he chose to stay), the perfomance (these girls are perfomance artists, everything is very on point), and their media savvy (part of the training, they are very entertaining to watch at variety shows and just their Vlives). they are not the only ones who have this but together it just fits.... And I know angry fandoms will come for this comment because of the YG part, but just a small breakdown of why I say it atm YG has both the BG (and overall) (Ikon is the group) with most hourly Paks (Perfect-All-Kill means number 1 on all official weekly charts counted by the hour afterwards, i think its 203 hourly Paks closest is Zico with his new song "anysong" that has 137 and counting) And the GG (Blackpink) with most hourly Paks (93 i think for du-ddu-du-ddu) normally Idol groups (those that are created by labels and have not yet faced enough "scandals" (could be as little as dating) and still be popular (then they are considered artists, its the Korean way dont ask)), they also have the Idol group (at the time now they are considered artists) Bigbang who had the highest number of unique listeners on the charts in 24 hours, and to top that off a whole Psy who was the first Kpop artist (not Idol, he had many "scandals", and was close to stopping until YG took him in, he served his contract, and now has his very own label P-nation) to truly break into the western market with Gangnam Style, and he still has the record of highest charting on the Billboard that matters (cant remember what one but the one thats difficult to get on), and as extra icing there is Epik High (a hiphop/R&B group that was also close to stopping because of "scandals" (well bullying), but rebounced after YG took them in, they served their contract and are now in another label (can never remember)) who was the very first Korean pop act at coachella, Coachella saw the effect of YG groups and has since only headlined YG groups or former YG groups (HGHGRND was a sublabel of YG run by Tablo of Epik High it sadly no longer exists, but they had a more indie vibe to their music, and as i recall its been groups formerly from that label), last year Blackpink, this year BigBang will have their comeback after two years of military service, at coachella (what a way to comeback).... Point is promotion and marketing is about results, not method, YG group fandoms HATE YG for giving little to no promotion and content, but I would argue it works, they are by far the label that is most known outside Korea, and even in Korea very much followed (proven by PAKs and Unique listeners), so yes YG does something, just very hard to pinpoint what, but it works thats the point. Sidenote as I mentioned in another comment, the BIG3 can very well change IF Bighit goes public and IF they can reproduce an Idol group like BTS, BigHit is rich, their revenue exceeded that of JYP last year, and mid february we will se if they pass YG in 2019, SM is HUGE, so not yet them, but IF they can reproduce a BTS level group, then probably. The BIG3 have not always been the BIG3, it was at a point the BIG2, and the labels counted have changed (except SM they made the whole industry), its not set in stone, but by being public, the current BIG3 are just way way to big for a private company, plus they have a lot of Idols and artists and many different business ventures that make them strong financially (before anyone yells YG is bankrupt, remember that the financial records are public, and twitter is not a source)
How did they huge with 9 song..? YG ENTERTAINMENT. Psy Bigbang Ikon 2ne1 Winner Epikhigh YG entertainment makes real catchy music. The girls were trained for years. So you can expect great things from them. Also YG strategy is always on point.
Kpop groups are usually hardcore and I would highly recommend not comparing any groups especially BTS and Blackpink since after DDU-DU-DDU-DU Blackpink started growing and breaking records which was not taken well by other fandoms and there was a lot of hate and the Blinks responded with toxic behaviour aswell.YG has the best Boy Group of kpop (Bigbang) which was the biggest for almost 11 years and inspired many groups like BTS and Blackpink.They are performing at coachella and they write/produce their own songs and are well off as solo artists aswell and the reason for existence of Blackpink and PSY's (Gangnam Style).

Here's some few facts that took a little digging about Blackpink that you might not find in videos: - they are the third female group from YG after Big Mama and 2NE1 - they get bigger cut of the profits than YG as their agency. One of the biggest in the industry with around 70:30 split. However, since she's a foreigner, Lisa gets around a sixth of what other members get. - they didn't get credited enough for their efforts to help creating their music. Jisoo is exceptionally brilliant in arrangements. Jennie and Lisa can wrote their own rap in both languages. However, they are restricted to minimum roles in the writing process. - they're not allowed to drive, drinking, smoking, dating, clubbing, have a tattoo, and have plastic surgery. Unless they have permission from the CEO. It was mainly in place to protect the girls from any harmful implications on their image. - they are supposed to be a nine members group like SNSD or Twice. However after shrinking down to five for various reasons, they eventually debuted as a four members girl group. - they didn't go out to promote on tv shows until they released their second mini album. - they did the impossible by being this popular with only thirteen songs on their repertoire, spread around in four mini albums. Something that only a few other K-pop acts (so far), could ever achieved in their infants stage. - they didn't have a leader, instead they actively took the lead initiative at what each members are good at. For emotional support, Jisoo's taking the wheel. For dancing, Lisa would quickly learned the moves and then pass it along to her members. Jennie and Rosé would grab the mikes on English interviews. However, the other members are free to took over if they are keen to do so.
Lisa getting 6x less is just a fan exaggeration 😆😆 There's a difference in pay because she's a foreigner...and that law exist in almost all countries. The difference is small. Besides, if you say that, you should also mention that she gets nonagon since pre debut to compensate for that.... So she gets the same as the other 3 ... Thats why YGE is the best in kpop when it comes to profit distribution

In a way, they find a loophole in the law to get fair with Lisa. After all, she is their first non Korean idol. Anyway, we can't be sure about how much she gets, since her contract is a private matter. We can only assume how much payment cut she gets. Based on her busy activities outside music compared to the other girls, and the amount of cuts other foreign Kpop idols get, it is still possible that she does gets a huge enough sums. On the other hand, we can also point out that that sixth is actually the amount of her payment cut. So we can pull a conclusion that she gets around five sixth than the others. Anyway, I refer myself from putting in a large amount of details, otherwise this comments would be a short essays and probably tl;dr for everybody.
About the salary cut, your info is outdated. Since early 2019, all thai artist in s.k get the same salary due to a new agreement by korean and thai government was signed. So Lisa and Sorn of CLC currently got the amount they deserved

Blackpink are levels above other girl groups because YG basically recruited the four hottest girls they could find that could sing or rap and trained them for 5 years before their debut. Lisa was already a great dancer before she joined YG. Jennie and Jisoo appeared in mv of other YG groups as background "hotties" before they debut in BP. Jisoo is the visual (prettiest), Jennie is officially the rapper (though Lisa is better), Rose the main singer and Lisa the main dancer.
Dunno if u already know this, but yes they are property of YG that is a Korean company but for their American realeses they sign with Interscope Records.

Blackpink is so popular because they are different from other kpop girl groups. Their styles are edgy (black) and elegant (pink) and doesn't have kidlike/cutesy songs in their albums. You'll notice that after you watched all their music videos, dance practice videos and their covers. Their confidence is straight up empowering and you'll get more in love with them because of their personality off stage. Like they are totally different person on stage.

They were all signed between 2010-2012 when they were 14-16 years old. After that they trained for SIX YEARS (normal training is an average of two to four years). They trained in Vocal, Dance and Rap for Twelve hours a day, Seven days a week, only one day off every two weeks. On top of that Rosé and Lisa left their countries and families and rarely saw them. Good stuff, Blackpink is probably the most accessible k-pop girl group in the west right now. It helps a lot that most of the members are fluent in English. Their best English cover is probably Sure Thing by Miguel. Highly recommended along with their releases and Coachella performances.

I myself am still new into KPOP but Blackpink introduced me into it KPOP and the rest is history. I stumbled upon Blackpink since early last year and I’m obsessed with them.
I’ll explain what I know so far about BLACKPINK (please like this so i know you read it) and also suggest for you more videos like this to react to at the end that relates to BLACKPINK. But please read this fully. BTW english isn't my first language so please excuse my horrible grammar and punctation or even spelling mistakes anyways:
Before their debut they trained under YG entertainment with Jennie being the longest trainee staying their for 6years thats why she got the first solo. After Jennie's solo its Rosé even though she was the last out of the four to join YG entertainment and then Lisa's solo and then Jisoo's solo. This year they published their first album and after Coachella it was a good time to do their first world tour. Their is also a video before their debut of them dancing that went viral and in that video people were obsessed with the blond girl who was dancing because she was soo good and that was Lisa and so she is the lead/main (idk the difference) dancer. But even before they released their first album this year they won awards and even though in asian especially Korea its known in their culture to be cute and feminine like many girl KPOP groups for example twice and Red velvet so what sets BLACKPINK different from other KPOP girl groups is that they are badass but also cute and women as a women you feel empowered by listening to them but males can also enjoy their music which is why they are the revolution. "Black" in BLACKPINK stands for their badass personalities and a great example is "Kill this love" and "Pink" in BLACKPINK stands for their cuteness and a great example is " as if it's your last" and so even though they are badass women their still cute and (BL) from black + (INK) from pink = (BLINK) . wohoo, more blackpink :) this is the perfect "first guide" because you get the basics like the names. Great next step would be "Journey and Friendship" (my favourite Blackpink fanguide) or the "unhelpful guide 2019 version" (mostly a funny compilation of the different personality quirks of the members). Also, K-Pop idols often vlog (most common on vlife, a korean website created for that reason, so k-pop artists can interact and stream to their fans whenever they want), different reality tv show formats and of course they promote new releases in weird korean tv / gaming shows. They also publish dance practice videos for their music videos, so fans can learn the full choreography. So there is a lot of material outside their stage performances which gives you a great sense of their personalities and how they live their daily lives. For Blackpink I would HIGHLY suggest Blackpink Diaries which follows them on their recent world tour. Lots of entertaining insights into the tour and their personalities. You will quickly fall in love with the members itself instead of "just" the music.

They are not Limited to Korean as every member can speak atleast 4 different languages and Lisa being the language genius can speak upto 5 different languages now that chinese is included in her list.I would highly recommend checking out the Blackpink Journey and friendship and this video was before their Kill this Love Mini album comeback. You should react to their cover of Sure Thing by Miguel. It's a song they performed as trainees and received high praises for from YG. Jennie amd Lisa wrote the rap part they perform at the end of the song. It really shows their versatility, and their ability to harmonize. And its all in english, which makes it more amazing because Jisoo at the time did not know very much English.

BLACKPINK became popular because of the colors of their songs, and their beauty. They have western sounds and their concept is darker and badass. I love my girls and I really think they have potential, but sadly YG doesn’t treat well their female idols. They are rarely in the recording studio, and don’t have a lot of involvement in their songs, but I think it’s because of their company. It’s sad that YG don’t let them grow as artists. Blinks have to make projects to make the girls have a comeback and a full album because YG takes a lot of time to release something new of them.
Now, the girls are more into modeling and signing contracts with different brands than being the idols they are. What YG is doing to them is completely awful.

well this is from a purely business perspective, Blackpink, got so big, because they are from YG (the promotion part), they deliver extremely high quality in production (the Teddy part, dude is a Legend of Kpop been producing Hits since 1998, even the west noticed Him and offered him jobs, he has his own sublabel in YG called The Black Label, so he chose to stay), the perfomance (these girls are perfomance artists, everything is very on point), and their media savvy (part of the training, they are very entertaining to watch at variety shows and just their Vlives).
they are not the only ones who have this but together it just fits.... And I know angry fandoms will come for this comment because of the YG part, but just a small breakdown of why I say it
atm YG has both the BG (and overall) (Ikon is the group) with most hourly Paks (Perfect-All-Kill means number 1 on all official weekly charts counted by the hour afterwards, i think its 203 hourly Paks closest is Zico with his new song "anysong" that has 137 and counting) And the GG (Blackpink) with most hourly Paks (93 i think for du-ddu-du-ddu) normally Idol groups (those that are created by labels and have not yet faced enough "scandals" (could be as little as dating) and still be popular (then they are considered artists, its the Korean way dont ask)), they also have the Idol group (at the time now they are considered artists) Bigbang who had the highest number of unique listeners on the charts in 24 hours, and to top that off a whole Psy who was the first Kpop artist (not Idol, he had many "scandals", and was close to stopping until YG took him in, he served his contract, and now has his very own label P-nation) to truly break into the western market with Gangnam Style, and he still has the record of highest charting on the Billboard that matters (cant remember what one but the one thats difficult to get on), and as extra icing there is Epik High (a hiphop/R&B group that was also close to stopping because of "scandals" (well bullying), but rebounced after YG took them in, they served their contract and are now in another label (can never remember)) who was the very first Korean pop act at coachella, Coachella saw the effect of YG groups and has since only headlined YG groups or former YG groups (HGHGRND was a sublabel of YG run by Tablo of Epik High it sadly no longer exists, but they had a more indie vibe to their music, and as i recall its been groups formerly from that label), last year Blackpink, this year BigBang will have their comeback after two years of military service, at coachella (what a way to comeback)....
Point is promotion and marketing is about results, not method, YG group fandoms HATE YG for giving little to no promotion and content, but I would argue it works, they are by far the label that is most known outside Korea, and even in Korea very much followed (proven by PAKs and Unique listeners), so yes YG does something, just very hard to pinpoint what, but it works thats the point.
Sidenote as I mentioned in another comment, the BIG3 can very well change IF Bighit goes public and IF they can reproduce an Idol group like BTS, BigHit is rich, their revenue exceeded that of JYP last year, and mid february we will se if they pass YG in 2019, SM is HUGE, so not yet them, but IF they can reproduce a BTS level group, then probably.
The BIG3 have not always been the BIG3, it was at a point the BIG2, and the labels counted have changed (except SM they made the whole industry), its not set in stone, but by being public, the current BIG3 are just way way to big for a private company, plus they have a lot of Idols and artists and many different business ventures that make them strong financially (before anyone yells YG is bankrupt, remember that the financial records are public, and twitter is not a source)

Kpop groups are usually hardcore and I would highly recommend not comparing any groups especially BTS and Blackpink since after DDU-DU-DDU-DU Blackpink started growing and breaking records which was not taken well by other fandoms and there was a lot of hate and the Blinks responded with toxic behaviour aswell.YG has the best Boy Group of kpop (Bigbang) which was the biggest for almost 11 years and inspired many groups like BTS and Blackpink.They are performing at coachella and they write/produce their own songs and are well off as solo artists aswell and the reason for existence of Blackpink and PSY's (Gangnam Style).

Here's some few facts that took a little digging about Blackpink that you might not find in videos:
- they are the third female group from YG after Big Mama and 2NE1
- they get bigger cut of the profits than YG as their agency. One of the biggest in the industry with around 70:30 split. However, since she's a foreigner, Lisa gets around a sixth of what other members get.
- they didn't get credited enough for their efforts to help creating their music. Jisoo is exceptionally brilliant in arrangements. Jennie and Lisa can wrote their own rap in both languages. However, they are restricted to minimum roles in the writing process.
- they're not allowed to drive, drinking, smoking, dating, clubbing, have a tattoo, and have plastic surgery. Unless they have permission from the CEO. It was mainly in place to protect the girls from any harmful implications on their image.
- they are supposed to be a nine members group like SNSD or Twice. However after shrinking down to five for various reasons, they eventually debuted as a four members girl group.
- they didn't go out to promote on tv shows until they released their second mini album.
- they did the impossible by being this popular with only thirteen songs on their repertoire, spread around in four mini albums. Something that only a few other K-pop acts (so far), could ever achieved in their infants stage.
- they didn't have a leader, instead they actively took the lead initiative at what each members are good at. For emotional support, Jisoo's taking the wheel. For dancing, Lisa would quickly learned the moves and then pass it along to her members. Jennie and Rosé would grab the mikes on English interviews. However, the other members are free to took over if they are keen to do so.
Lisa getting 6x less is just a fan exaggeration 😆😆

Besides, if you say that, you should also mention that she gets nonagon since pre debut to compensate for that.... So she gets the same as the other 3 ... Thats why YGE is the best in kpop when it comes to profit distribution

In a way, they find a loophole in the law to get fair with Lisa. After all, she is their first non Korean idol. Anyway, we can't be sure about how much she gets, since her contract is a private matter. We can only assume how much payment cut she gets. Based on her busy activities outside music compared to the other girls, and the amount of cuts other foreign Kpop idols get, it is still possible that she does gets a huge enough sums.
On the other hand, we can also point out that that sixth is actually the amount of her payment cut. So we can pull a conclusion that she gets around five sixth than the others.
Anyway, I refer myself from putting in a large amount of details, otherwise this comments would be a short essays and probably tl;dr for everybody.
About the salary cut, your info is outdated. Since early 2019, all thai artist in s.k get the same salary due to a new agreement by korean and thai government was signed. So Lisa and Sorn of CLC currently got the amount they deserved

Blackpink are levels above other girl groups because YG basically recruited the four hottest girls they could find that could sing or rap and trained them for 5 years before their debut. Lisa was already a great dancer before she joined YG. Jennie and Jisoo appeared in mv of other YG groups as background "hotties" before they debut in BP. Jisoo is the visual (prettiest), Jennie is officially the rapper (though Lisa is better), Rose the main singer and Lisa the main dancer.
