  • On 2nd October 1958, Guinea gained independence with Ahmed Sekou Toure as its first President. In November 1959, President Toure addressed the United Nation General Assembly during his first visit to the global body based in New York. In his speech, President Toure said that Guinea's independence was not enough as many African countries were yet to attain independence. President Toure rallied member countries to help in Africa's liberation efforts.
