    Eric - You're the only one that can take an old RV that most of us would not take a second look at and make it look like something we would not mind having.

      My comment was for Nomadic, not you. Although I appreciate the concern, the 'blooper reel' is even more concerning. Your drama isn't wanted here, please note this for future reference.

    I learned something new today, thanks Eric! I love these videos as it gives me a lot to think about when the time comes for me to buy my RV. I'm not mechanically inclined, and I'll be on a budget, however perhaps a newer RV/trailer would be for me. I now know lots more about what to look for when the time comes. I think Jax is much happier these days, not that he was miserable before, but there's a more peaceful look in his eyes, less stressed. You're doing great! Keep it up.

    I repaired a Sureflo pump on my van a few years ago. Same symptoms as yours, turned out to be just an easily replaceable rubber diaphragm inside - worth pulling it apart and seeing if you can fix up the old one to keep as a spare, or resell.

      @StudioDaVeed 9 лет назад +1

      Simon Crabb Same thing here only in my 94 the pump was already obsolete, I just bought the next gen 3.0 gpm and the increased pressure was amazing.

    It is awesome that you are getting your items up and working. We have requested a RV tech to look at ours too........since we know nothing of our machine we have to have someone come and help.......was trying to do all we could on our own because of finances but we have to admit this is above us.

    glad you are confidant the RV place will fix your leak. I'm never very confident that the 18 year old at the RV place will fix anything in a manner I would be satisfied with. Happily sometimes I'm proven wrong. Most RV shops (dealers) give the red light guarantee, that is guaranteed as long as they can see your tail lights. Like I said I love it when I find a shop that proves me wrong.

    • @joe2ker
      @joe2ker 9 лет назад +3

      john g Yes! Being confident in them doesn't make them competent. It just makes you feel better until you realize what really happened.
      I love RVing, but the industry is a mess on the manufacturing and service side.

    • @brianc5592
      @brianc5592 9 лет назад

      joe2ker Probably because most people only use their RVs every now and then and let them sit. So if the work wasn't done right they might not discover it for years. By that then, it's easy to blame it on time.

    Interesting tip but sometimes we still have to rely on the experts. Hope they get it fixed quickly at $120.00 an hour. Eric just wanted to let you know your tip about the generator not only works on your Tioga but my 2001 Coachman Mirada has the same issue. The generator will not start unless the engine on the RV is running. Thanks guy you saved me from having to tear into the wiring, batteries, and God knows what else trying to figure out why it would not start. When I bought the RV the Guy that sold it to me might have known about that but was afraid to tell me thinking this might be a deal breaker and so I was just listening to what he was telling me while I was checking out the rig and wouldn't you know it when he showed me how to start the Generator from inside the coach the engine was running and I never gave that a second thought every time after that I tried to start the generator.

    Fixing the propane leak is the last major step to having a fully functioning RV, isn't it? Good for you !!!! If you go through Wisconsin on your way to New York, I'd be happy to buy you breakfast, lunch, or dinner, whichever is closest when you are in my neck of the woods which is roughly two hours east of Minneapolis, Minnesota. lol !!! You don't have to be on my direct route, as I will drive to meet you, wherever.

      Vicki Olson You must live somewhere between Turtle Lake and Ladysmith? I used to camp on the historic Flambeau River for years. Lived in Minnesota now live in Virginia. I miss those days.

      @vickiolson1198 9 лет назад

      I'm just 20 minutes south east of Eau Claire. I have never gone tubing down a river, but when I was 15, myself and three other girls took a rowboat and a tent, and went down the Eau Claire River from the silver bridge on county H to Lake Eau Claire. It was a wonderful experience and now, we marvel at the fact that our parents let us do this on our own. I'm sure you are familiar with the Norske Nook restaurant in Osseo, wi. I don't live there, but I had an antiques store just two doors down for over 25 years.

    • @littleolme4521
      @littleolme4521 9 лет назад

      Vicki Olson I don't think I've been there. Doesn't sound familiar. Used to go to Eau Claire once a week to pick up human transplant organs and tissue to bring to the MSP airport. Went to Eau Claire for a family reunion at a huge park once. But yeah, being a part of nature, whether it's tubing, camping, hiking etc... is a great thing. My youngest daughter, who was 13 when we started the camping thing, considers those times the best she had. I was off work for three years due to an injury and subsequent surgery and recuperation. So, I took advantage of the time to really get to know her and teach her what I knew about camping and fishing and just woodscraft in general. Something I think all kids should be taught. Now that the kids are grown and married, I am seriously considering the van life. Looks very doable. That's why I watch these videos. Eric is my favorite.

    • @littleolme4521
      @littleolme4521 9 лет назад

      Vicki Olson I used to go to a restaurant in the outskirts of Ladysmith, and for the life of me I can't remember the name, but it had a train or stagecoach theme. They had a root beer with their name. Best root beer I ever had (except for Killebrew). But the food was awesome. Huge portions, low price. Always ate so much, I never had room for pie. The place I used to camp was just outside of Bruce WI. off hwy.8. Took a right on Firehouse? Rd. Once in the woods, it was a 20 min. drive to the spot. Way out there. But it was just a 10 min. drive to downtown Ladysmith.

    To save time & hassles at the RV shop. Buy a plug or cap that fits on your propane tee under the fridge. Make sure that your system is turned off and disconnect your fridge line at the tee. Plug/cap this leg of the tee and test for leaks. There should be no leaks and all propane accessories should be usable except the fridge. To help them further you can then disconnect the line at the fridge and let it dangle down. The line should now be easier to pull down and see the damage that was hidden by the floor.

    Hi Eric. We've watched all of your videos. We like some RV updates but we mostly watch to hear your thoughts, fears, plans, irritations, etc. Hearing those things keeps it interesting. Less how to fix a gas leak etc... There are lots of diy you tube videos out there.

    • @refluxroadmap
      @refluxroadmap 9 лет назад

      John Schutz I agree. I've watched them all but how to fix whatever is getting really old. I'm watching at night and falling asleep. Fast forwarded through this one and about to stop watching the channel if things don't start getting more interesting. Early videos were more interesting discussions about life. This has become a serious snooze fest. Sorry Eric I know you are sensitive and will think I'm a hater (I'm not). But you need to hear bc you are going to start losing viewers. And I assume you care about maintaining your income. How many people need to know how to fix an RV water pump at any given moment? These are really boring. Sorry.

  • @LAPGOCHINSTRUCTOR
    @LAPGOCHINSTRUCTOR 9 лет назад +6

    RV mechanics, RV water pipes/pump, RV electrics, solar electrics etc - no problem - Anything to do with propane in the RV ALWAYS use a specialist propane installer/maintenance company. Yes it's fun trying to locate the problem - but seriously have any remedial work done by a propane specialist who can then check the whole system and sign off on the whole system. Otherwise there could be that one time when you flick a light switch and then it's goodbye Tilley 2, Eric and Jax - lets hope not ATB Richard

    My fridge 12v/gas/120v had a pressure gauge in the gas line. With the unit OFF you would allow the gas in through a valve and then close the valve. Any variation on the gauge would tell you there was a leak in the fridge gas system and therefore do not light it off.

  • @scottwall4669
    @scottwall4669 9 лет назад

    Gas lines are easy, do not remove old stuff, simply attach new line with rubber clamps to leaky dude and bypass. Also run a quick coupler to the rear so you can hook up an outside barbeque. Cooking burgers and bacon inside an RV is a stinky mess. That reset button on the propane tank is 1980s or older, installed for pressure increases with elevation.Prevents Homer from blowing up your RV when you fill up in Seattle at sea level then try to fill on Vail Summit at 10,355 feet. When the OPD valve became required nationwide in 2001 they stopped installing the external button. They are now installed inside the bottle.
    When propane system is totally repaired grab a few cans of expand foam at Home Depot. Blast every hole and space in and around. This foam isolates vibration and keeps bugs and mice out. Critters like fuel areas, they are cold when outside temps are hot and warm in freezing weather. Once you start the rattle can flowing you have to use it all so have your spots marked with blue tape, the can seizes up in 5 minutes after using so use it all!!!

  • @byron7165
    @byron7165 8 лет назад

    I think you are going to find that the little buddy heater will fill your RV with condensation. You're better off using the onboard furnace. I have both in my 5th wheel. I didn't find that there was any saving using the little buddy, but I noticed right away that the windows and ceiling were condensing like mad. That doesn't happen with the onboard furnace because the spent fuel (which is mostly water) is vented outside.
    I'd like to hear what you eventually found after a season using the little buddy.

    I am not being critical but is that proper etiquette to park the way you did? You are taking up 5 parking spots by utilizing a horizontal approach instead of the usual vertical which would probably take up 2 spots but would stick out more. I am just asking this because I am wondering if somebody would complain or not.

      Reflection Ofpower In this scenario because the lot wasn't that full I think you made a sound judgement on parking and you didn't think nothing of it as it was second nature to you. I have never driven an RV. If I had the $$ and from what I have seen I would go this root as it is much cheaper to live. Continue to put up your videos as I do enjoy watching them and I do learn a lot from them. I think I would go to the size you are right now although it is more conspicuous but hey you're not trying to hide anything. I immediately saw the change in Jax's demeanor when you moved back up to a bigger vehicle.

      Reflection Ofpower You are correct in your etiquette. Certainly, if you can park taking up less spots, always try to do that. Not always possible though. 9 feet wide RV's don't fit in the 8 foot lines when there are cars parked in the adjoining spots. I wouldn't park there overnight, or if the lot was full, but when there's no other option, the businesses still want your money when you are in an RV, so as long as you do your laundry and shop at the store, they aren't going to complain or have you towed in the 1 hour you are parked.

    thx for the vids bro, im looking to invest in a van myself and just take a few months to tour america with my fiance. i would like to get your opinion on bathroom options, whats your opinion on composting toilets? i basically want to set it up so if needed we could boondock for weeks at a time with things like solar power, extra batteries and excess water storage. im just curious which you feel is less of a hastle, the traditional black water sewage system or composting.

    Hey buddy, glad things are getting back to normal. If you think of it, next time it storms, make a short video of RV life during storms. I've had a few eventful times with my travel trailer and class A. We don't get to see much footage of riding out a storm, and of course us chasers live for the thrill ;)

    The propane tank is simply too old and porous from corrosion to be considered dependable and so may the connections, indeed it's an overall great hazard to the RV and its passengers inside. The meters and valves seem good though. Long time since have seen Jax so happy and himself again with his new home.

    Eric, do you worry about BPH in the plastic water tank because of that older year tank?

    • @nomadicfanatic
      @nomadicfanatic  9 лет назад

      cowboy7x Not so much. I'm not going to consuming unfiltered water from the tank. I know that the filters don't catch everything, but I'm not that picky.

    Make sure that safety switch is re-installed after the leak is fixed. I know some have said you need to take it to a propane specialist and have the tank replaced it might be worth a stop by a propane specialist or a phone call to see if that tank needs replacing. You can never afford not to operate those RV systems safely. I want to keep coming back to see your videos and not hear that there was a fireball where you once where parked.
    also I send u a FB message with a link to a $20 gopro Lens replacement. This is the actual lens in camera not the housing for the gopro.

      Chris Kilga Nothing. Don't see a separate pump, and not sure how it was designed or intended to get water up into the RV...

      Nomadic Fanatic thats weird... you ever think of getting rid of the black water tank and doing a bio degradable setup like asimplekid did in his class b so you don't have to worry about dumping and whatnot?

    Nice! Have you thought of using a rubber line to make a temporary bypass? Just to see if there is any other problems in the system and if not, run everything until properly fixed? You already scheduled an appointment to fix it, though, so not necessary. More of a would be nice option. Peace!

    Your tank was empty even though your two gauges said it was full? Your gauges are both broken, are you going to fix them or leave it? I'd leave it.

      rick dees I think I'll just top of the propane tank every 3 weeks. Until I start using the heater, then every week.
