What I love about you is that, you are not a "bushcraft" channel. There is no "Look at me, I can light a fire!", or, "Here's a cool knot I think you need to know (which I can do better than all those other bushcrafters out there)." type of BS. You are exploring, and showing us the wonders of Australia, and enjoying it the best way you can. Nothing fancy, but skilled nonetheless. Cheers from Canada. That's the way to go, Mattzy. 'You've done it again!' for sure.
Thanks a lot mate! Lovely words. Haha I actually tried doing that very early on and realised almost immediately “This is not me” and decided to keep it as natural I could, which turns out, is the easiest way to be 😄 I’m glad you appreciate it and are enjoying the content mate! Amazing that you can explore Australia with me from all the way up in Canada. I love that. 🙏
you deserve so many more followers. I like the way you give history and information on the areas you hike. As well as the poetry and almost like a diary or journal entry narration over the video. Really nice video and editing work. I feel almost like I am watching an adventure episode on TV... Well Produced. Just enough talking but still some silence to appreciate the sounds of nature. Keep up the good work and the interesting places.
Ah man, thank you so much mate. 🙏 That’s a lovely piece of feedback. I really appreciate it. I don’t have the experience of better editing skills or more stable lenses but I do what I can with what I have. Hopefully it only improves moving forward. 💪 Thanks for watching mate!
Absolutely amazing isnt it, Gidday mate..about 5kms from my little camp I live in is a forestry road up that road if you walk about 8km or more you'll be Absolutely graced by thee Ahipara Wild Horses,.they say its good luck to come apon them and 3 times Ive come across them,.sometimes closer to 90 mile beach other times in along side tracks. And everytime its as exciting and incredible as that first time. They seem to recognize me I reckon not to many crazy fellas walk around the forestry lol. And the last few times Ive been allowed to get ever so much closer like 100 meters, In that moment it feels spiritual like somehow youve this ancient ancestral connection from our ancestors. Then we part ways, and im just left feeling so blessed.. This journey you took on was incredible thank you.
Just finished a trip through the same country. I was utterly dismayed at the damage the feral horses have done. The piles of manure are stallions marking their territory. There is nothing ‘romantic’ about these ferals. They are in the same class as rabbits, pigs, goats and deer. They don’t belong. Thank you for the vid. You captured beautifully much of the scenery I passed through. Stunning.
I love the poetry and the journaling. Have you ever considered making the transition away from suburbia? 3 years ago I moved to the remote mountains of Northern California. A tiny town. I never looked back. 🙏
Thank you, mate. I certainly have, I hit the road a few weeks ago now and I’ll do some travelling while I film and will be keeping my eye out for a smaller town. I was just having this conversation yesterday about how I probably should have done it a long time ago. No time like the present though! I’m glad you hear you found a peaceful place mate, I’m sure I’m not far behind. 🙏
Great vid mate. Some killer shots there. I can't wait to do another trip to the snowies. With the quilt, I can't say I've ever used those straps. Also, I don't bother with the button around the neck. You'll notice that in the corners of the quilt, there's little pockets where you can put your hand to help wrap yourself up. Oh, and also regarding campfires in Kosciuszko, you are allowed to have a fire in the wilderness and back country areas. It's only in the more well visited areas along the road corridors that you have to use a designated fire ring. Look forward to your next vid mate.
Thanks mate! Ahh ok, I hadn’t noticed the pockets, I’ll check that out, cheers for that. That is a damn shame about the campfire, I just checked the parks page again and they have that line in bold about remote camping and open fires. That should be more clear, especially if they’re using the term “remote camping”. Would have been worth a call to be fair. Glad you dropped that comment for next time haha 😂
Ah thanks mate, that’s awesome! I really appreciate it. I just set back some more time from work in order to do this, so hopefully you start seeing some more regular and interesting episodes. 😄
Hey man, late to the vid but I called the long plains ranger specifically about the campfire issue and they said it was fine as long as I did collect wood from above the tree line where the habitat was more sensitive
Hey mate, that’s great to know. I was speaking to Scotty after he watched the vid and he said fires are generally allowed, just not in places such as main range etc. Near the established roads and trails, which makes sense. Did you mean to say “did” collect wood from above the tree line? Thanks for the info Jack 🤙
Thanks for making this great video. really enjoyed the outback country. and thanks for taking the time to video the nature, horses, Kangaroos, and other animals. Great video. Thanks to Scotty's walkabout channel, I found you. - Take care.
Thanks for coming across from Scotty’s channel, Kevin. I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🙏 Haha sometimes the animals don’t want to play the game but every so often we get lucky enough and they stay still 😂 Thanks for watching mate. Plenty more to come. 🤙
On the weekend you were doing that me & a mate tackled the K2K hike. Check that out. Not for the fient hearted. We had to turn back late on day 2 as lost the trail.
Yeah I’ve read up on that one before. A lot of it is overgrown from what I hear. Good on ya for giving it a crack and knowing when to call it and not getting yourselves lost 😄 What an adventure though

Awesome video mate, loved it. Can’t get over some of that country, simply beautiful. Definitely agreeing with your sentiments mate, the rat race is crushing and finding time to escape it is so important. Keep up the incredible work man 🤙
Thank you so much mate, I’m glad you enjoyed it! You’re not wrong, it’s bloody special out there. Haha exactly. Even with this channel and cutting back to 4 days of regular work, it’s still hard finding the time. Crazy world we’ve made for ourselves hey. Time to lock in another trip 💪 Thanks for watching mate!
I’m off to the Vic high country next weekend(3 nights). Watching this just makes me envious but also a great reminder of how cold it can get. Might even try to video some of it, see how it goes.
Thanks mate! Yep, that’s it. No point making it glossy, everyone knows the truth.😂 Far more entertaining this way anyway I reckon. It’s the adventure of it. Appreciate your support Kevin.
Found you via scotty and you definitely haven’t disappointed me. Really enjoyed your keeping it real narration to the film. Great info on the history and can’t wait to return to oz one day to explore some more. You’ve got a double over in the uk I served with many moons ago. Stand easy.
That’s awesome to hear, Carleton! Thanks for coming across and I’m glad I didn’t let you down 😂 Scotty is a good bloke for having me along on that adventure. I enjoy the narrations and slowly trying to add a little more information as I go. Haha that’s funny about the double, you wouldn’t believe how often I get told that I look just like someone by strangers who mistake me. Must have one of those faces I guess. Thanks for watching mate and hopefully you stick around. I’ll be doubling down on content very soon. 👍
Hey mate great video. If you want to fix the lines when using your led light if you change your frames to 50ps it usually cancels out the frequency. You probably know this but just in case. Keep up the awesome content mate
Great clip, stunning looking part of the world. Love to head out there for a fish and camp but horses and me have had a few issues in the past...bit gun shy now. Still, if I could camp next to my car down there I'd feel a bit less intimidated. As a 60 year old I doubt I could outrun even a lame three legged Brumby. Nice work, keep'em coming.
Sorry to hear that mate. There are certainly a few great places out there to camp by your vehicle. The horses aren’t at all the locations which is great too. It’s a beautiful part of the world. Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks for watching 🙏 Yeah, they’re not alone though. Plenty of other animals and introduced plant species playing their part and let’s not forget who put them there hey. 🤦♂️
23:07 More of these shots please Matsy! Love the pure uninterrupted atmosphere. Can I also make a request for a wider field of view in the head shots & slower panning when filming the scenery. Thanks!
Hey mate! Unfortunately there’s no zoom on these lenses I own, bar the one I was filming the horses with (which is massive) so I’m unable to achieve a wider field of view where I’m filming back at myself. Believe me, I wish I could do it all with one lens but I just can’t afford to upgrade at the moment. I do have a cheaper wide angle lens but the quality isn’t there and as soon as I’m in the shade it gets quite grainy, so I stopped taking that one out with me. But it’s definitely on my list down for the future. 🙏 And as for the slower panning, my lenses have pretty shitty stabilisation so it’s nearly impossible to get a smooth pan, that’s why it’s generally a still shot haha All in due time though!
@@TheSillySwagman Totally understand. Thank you for the detailed response. I'm loving the content and will continue to await new videos eagerly. All the best👍
Ripper video mattsy! I had to chuckle at your cold water bath with a bunch of brumbies having a peek at you. Real informative as well. I had looked a bit into info on the Vic high country, but great to learn a bit more about the snowy mountains.
Hahaha it was a pretty surreal experience 😂 I love for those moments. Sun coming down and everything. Magic haha Thanks for watching as always brother 🤙
@@Lukeslittletribe Well from what I read on the National Parks website, if you are wildcamping then you are not allowed to have an wood fire. You can only use the ones at the huts or designated campgrounds. Which is a damn shame.
@@TheSillySwagman yeah right .. in the vicco alpine national park there are areas that are only stove cooking and others that allow fires .. they just ask to be conservative with the wood you collect. Would of been an early night for you though in the cold with no fire 😂
@@Lukeslittletribe Both nights absolutely 😂😂 I think it might be worth giving them a call to find out exactly what the rules for the difference areas are, surely it would have to be the same. I think from memory this was regarding the high plains where I was. I’ll have to triple check that.
I understand the devastation caused by any introduced species and the importance to remove them, but horses are so majestic aren't they. As a hunter I have no issues shooting a pig or rabbit or fox, but I just don't know if I could shoot a horse. But, they do cause a lot of damage to an eco system not meant for them. Beautiful scenery too.
Yep, absolutely. Nobody can deny the experience of seeing them in the wild, especially if you weren’t brought up around horses. I don’t think we need to be cold hearted in order to understand that any feral animal causes issues. No need for anyone to be mad at someone for enjoying the experience of seeing one running wild like this. Beautiful creatures.
Thanks for watching mate. I’m glad the narration is being received well. I always feel a bit strange while I’m recording and listening back and just hope people aren’t cringing as much as I am, no matter how much I want it to be in there. Haha Take care mate!
@@TheSillySwagman I'm glad it is in there, adds another dimension to the video. And it is good to know there are other people out there who think similarly to me.
Great video, beautiful scenery. I do understand that the brumby’s cause damage to the ecology but nevertheless they are majestic to look at. I hope they can strike a balance.
Another fantastic video man thanks for sharing. Damn that morning looked cold. And a psa in the vic high country your only allowed to camp in a hut if it’s a emergency. Also wild horses have killed 1.3 million tourists in the last year so be careful and give them plenty of space. They are a majestic animal but also weigh 6 times more then you
Yeah that’s exactly right, only allowed to cool in there over the fireplace. Haha absolutely, they’re not to be underestimated. This isn’t Yellowstone.
The quality of this video is amazing mate! I would love to know what camera you are predominately using, is it the new GoPro you mentioned? Also, what microphone have you got equipped? Cheers
Hey mate! Thank you 🙏 It’s actually a Canon 200D. I switch between a few lenses (hoping to replace all three with one when I can afford it). A 24mm, 50mm and a 300mm. I didn’t use the GoPro here, I save that for the water etc. I’m using a Rode videomic pro.
Dude what the hell time did you leave home to get started with 6 hour drive? Also, how are those mechanix gloves? I got a pair of the ones you used to have, the safety ones, did they cark it?
Haha I set my alarm for 3:30 and was in the car by 4:30. 😂 The mechanix gloves seem good so far. They feel really good too. The other ones were great, I just sliced into two of the fingers while I was battling an invasive weed vine in our new place 😂😂
You are totally correct about the horse have a warning system. This is not typical horse behaviour. Usually horses don,t have frets from predator because in their natural environment it is treeless, bushless savannah and they can see danger from a far off distant and if pressured just walk in the other direction. In their natural environment wolf don,t even predate on horses because they can out run most predators. But in the environment they are in, they are always on edge 24/4 due to wild dogs and closed in forests. it is very dentremenntal to their heath sortening their live span in half. To keep these animals in this environment is animal cruelty. They all should be remove to Savannah county or desert country. Those who want to horse to stay. are committing animal cruelty.
What I love about you is that, you are not a "bushcraft" channel. I do have a cheaper wide angle lens but the quality isn’t there and as soon as I’m in the shade it gets quite grainy, so I stopped taking that one out with me. But it’s definitely on my list down for the future. 🙏
And as for the slower panning, my lenses have pretty shitty stabilisation so it’s nearly impossible to get a smooth pan, that’s why it’s generally a still shot haha
All in due time though!
@@TheSillySwagman Totally understand. Thank you for the detailed response. I'm loving the content and will continue to await new videos eagerly. All the best👍
@@craigmohr Thanks mate! I really do appreciate feedback like this though, always open to suggestions and tips!
Thanks for the support brother 🙏🙏🙏
Ripper video mattsy!
I had to chuckle at your cold water bath with a bunch of brumbies having a peek at you. Real informative as well. I had looked a bit into info on the Vic high country, but great to learn a bit more about the snowy mountains.
Hahaha it was a pretty surreal experience 😂 I love for those moments. Sun coming down and everything. Magic haha
Thanks for watching as always brother 🤙
@@TheSillySwagman I was going to ask as well .. why no fire?
This area doesn't allow it or you wanted to leave as little trace as possible?
@@Lukeslittletribe Well from what I read on the National Parks website, if you are wildcamping then you are not allowed to have an wood fire. You can only use the ones at the huts or designated campgrounds. Which is a damn shame.
@@TheSillySwagman yeah right .. in the vicco alpine national park there are areas that are only stove cooking and others that allow fires .. they just ask to be conservative with the wood you collect. Would of been an early night for you though in the cold with no fire 😂
@@Lukeslittletribe Both nights absolutely 😂😂
I think it might be worth giving them a call to find out exactly what the rules for the difference areas are, surely it would have to be the same. I think from memory this was regarding the high plains where I was. I’ll have to triple check that.
Thumbnail level up! Catch wait to watch this one
Haha! That’s it 😂😂😅
Thought I’d try something special for once haha
Need to get down there one day 🤔😀
Absolutely! You will not be disappointed I promise
Another great video mate. As usual, love your narration on nature, history, society and life. Nice little review in there too.
Thanks for watching mate. I’m glad the narration is being received well. I always feel a bit strange while I’m recording and listening back and just hope people aren’t cringing as much as I am, no matter how much I want it to be in there. Haha
Take care mate!
@@TheSillySwagman I'm glad it is in there, adds another dimension to the video. And it is good to know there are other people out there who think similarly to me.
Did you find Scotty's entry in there? I think he was here a year or two ago
Inspiring video of inspiring country.
Does your Garmin navigation tool work everywhere in the Snowys?
Awesome walk Matsy, rum n coke to boot! Love it! Ab
Haha thanks mate! That drink was a great sign off for the trip. Too smooth 😆
Thanks for watching AB!
Let us know if you've had any Yowie encounters. ❤
Love your work. Also thank you for your service. ( I know you guys get embarrassed by that but anyway there you go.)
Haha thanks mate, I appreciate it. 🙏
And I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. Plenty more to come this year.
Absolutely gods country, cracka mate 👍
Damn right it is. Thanks for watching mate 🙏
What’s the name of the song used in the intro mate? Like … like it a lot!
OMG , underpants that is so funny
Needs a name the “Scotty Snake Tap” 🐍
Haha it’s a thing now 😆
@@TheSillySwagman Haha glad to be of service. But it's actually more of a wave than a tap. Kinda like you're using a metal detector.
Great video, beautiful scenery. I do understand that the brumby’s cause damage to the ecology but nevertheless they are majestic to look at. I hope they can strike a balance.
stunnin job mate, always improving! thanks for showing us a glimpse of this beautiful part of the country.
Thanks for the feedback mate!
Bloody epic landscape out there. Keen for winter now!
I find these figures very hard to believe...even worldwide. You sure ?
@@Yipmanhands don't worry, 87.4% of stats are made up on the spot ;)
1.3 million!? You are off your rocker mate
@@TRiipa501 comedic over estimation to be comedic.
great vid! do you ever use snake gaiters?
Hey mate, I do not but I really should haha
I should grab a pair.

🤙🤙
The quality of this video is amazing mate! I would love to know what camera you are predominately using, is it the new GoPro you mentioned? Also, what microphone have you got equipped? Cheers
Hey mate! Thank you 🙏
It’s actually a Canon 200D. I switch between a few lenses (hoping to replace all three with one when I can afford it). A 24mm, 50mm and a 300mm.
I didn’t use the GoPro here, I save that for the water etc. I’m using a Rode videomic pro.
What month was this frost experienced?
Dude what the hell time did you leave home to get started with 6 hour drive? Also, how are those mechanix gloves? I got a pair of the ones you used to have, the safety ones, did they cark it?
Haha I set my alarm for 3:30 and was in the car by 4:30. 😂
The mechanix gloves seem good so far. They feel really good too. The other ones were great, I just sliced into two of the fingers while I was battling an invasive weed vine in our new place 😂😂
Ha ha bush blackberries…..you think. Please guys unless your 100% certain don’t eat
I knew what it was, mate. Just having fun with it. 🤙
You’re absolutely right though, unless you are certain without any doubt, leave it.
First!
Hahaha! Legend 😂😂🤙
You got a moustache like two cappybarras kissing
Hahahaha
Much less your face ,camera work great...
I’m glad you enjoyed less of my face. Thank you for watching.
Thanks!
