    In QLD Australian summers I find whenever I wrap, even with poultice/liniment underneath, my horse's legs heat up too much. So after a hard ride or show I just hose him down until the water resting on his skin is cool, then I put ice boots on for 20 minutes, then I smear a thick layer of wet poultice all over his legs, carrot stretches and if I feel like he may need it I sometimes rinse his back (shoulders and loins/hindquarters especially) with some diluted liquid liniment like penetrene A.
    It takes forever but I love doing it, nothing like fussing over your favourite pony haha

    I love poultice. For myself sometimes too! Like the idea of wet paper. I've always used plastic wrap. Thanks for the tip!

    We ice, poultice, wrap and pack feet every day at a horse show! And then ice + wrap (sometimes with liniment) at home after jump schools - even for the young ones. I believe in keeping the legs as well maintained as you can - love to see another equestrian who shares this philosophy!

    Loved this! Love seeing how you take such amazing care of all your horses! However, I do wish you could of shown taking off the Poultice though. I love seeing everyone's different methods especially because I can learn little tricks and tips that I didn't know/realize before. 😄

      A hard bristled curry comb once it’s dry and then hosing the legs, don’t recommend hosing the legs initially because it turns goopy and makes a huge mess.

    Hey Zoey! I’m not sure if you will see this… but if you do…. I only follow you here now. 6 years ago in the middle of following your journey with D and Roman I gave up all my Other social media for personal safety reasons. When I found you were making videos on here I was elated! I’ve been checking back every so often since your last post 2 years or more now. I wish you would post an update. I hope you are doing well and all the horses are good.

    • @ZLEquestrian
      @ZLEquestrian  3 года назад +3

      I use both but they serve different purposes, sometimes I ice before I poultice. The long lasting clay with herbal/medicinal properties works differently than a 15-45 minute ice wrap, but both are beneficial.

    Would this be helpful for very large wind puffs? I am trying to figure out ways to make them go down in size but nothing seems to work.

    • @ZLEquestrian
      @ZLEquestrian  3 года назад +3

      I’m not a vet. Windpuffs are cosmetic and are caused by fluid surrounding soft tissue structures due to the lymphatic system being unable to pull it up. Unfortunately once wind puffs are present, it’s hard to get rid of them much like once you stretch the collar of your shirt and can’t shrink it back. That being said, compression therapy and Back on Track wraps as well as movement and circulation are great ways to help.

    Is there a difference between stadium jumping and show jumping?

    • @ZLEquestrian
      @ZLEquestrian  3 года назад +1

      No, stadium is referring to the show jumping phase of eventing. Show jumping is it’s own discipline itself.

    • @briannamercedes4016
      @briannamercedes4016 3 года назад +1

      i think the term stadium jumping just tends to be used for eventing, and show jumping/jumpers for the individual sport, but maybe it could also be a regional difference. Basically they are the same thing.

    What kind of brown paper do you use is it anything specific?

    • @Morgan-rp2xb
      @Morgan-rp2xb 3 года назад

      it's the stuff you buy at the tack store. It comes in a role like paper towel. Alternatively you can use the inside of feed bags (but not a lot of feed bags have brown paper lining anymore). You can also use the blue paper towel usually found in the car cleaning section at stores, it also works really well to hold moisture.

  • @Aelinwildfire
    @Aelinwildfire 3 года назад +1

    Can you just leave it without the wraps on?

    • @Morgan-rp2xb
      @Morgan-rp2xb 3 года назад

      yes, but it's not as effective. The point is to keep it wet for as long as possible, as that is when the poultice is working. Once dry, it's just crusty dirt, and without the brown paper and wrapping it dries very quickly.

    • @Aelinwildfire

    • @ZLEquestrian
